Wilkerson has already established himself as one of the best 3-4 defensive ends in the league, but he took things to a new level last year when he posted 12 sacks. It couldn't have come at a better time for him either as he was headed for free agency this offseason. The Jets used the franchise tag to retain his services, but he was holding out in the hopes of signing a long-term deal. Some speculated the Jets may trade him given their depth at the position, but that seems unlikely at this point. Assuming Wilkerson eventually signs the 1-year tender, we can likely expect another DE1 season from him. (May 27)

Jets | Several Jets players on PUP list (Thu Jul 28, 02:47 PM) - New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson (leg), OG James Carpenter (undisclosed), OT Breno Giacomini (undisclosed) and CB Kendall James (undisclosed) were placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Thursday, July 28.

Our View: We knew Wilkerson would end up there but Carpenter and Giacomini are concerns as the Jets are desperate for a healthy line. Luckily Chan Gailey's offense is quick and can overcome a shaky line.

Jets | Muhammad Wilkerson expects to be ready (Wed Jul 20, 05:12 PM) - New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson (leg) said he expects to be ready for the start of the regular season but is not sure when he will be able to practice during training camp. He said the rehab from his broken leg is going well and that he is running four times a week.

Jets | Muhammad Wilkerson will be ready (Wed Jul 20, 02:33 PM) - New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson (leg) said he will be ready for the season opener but can't predict when he'll be available in training camp. He is recovering from a broken right leg suffered in the season finale in 2015.

Our View: That's good news for Wilkerson, but we don't think the Jets will have him do much in the preseason. Monitor his status leading up to the regular season. With Wilkerson on the field, the Jets are going to be a tough defense to run against. Remember that when considering RBs going up against them. In 2015, the Jets gave up only 83.4 rushing yards per game--a mark good for 2nd in the NFL.

Jets | Sheldon Richardson will be expensive (Sat Jul 16, 03:15 PM) - New York Jets DE Sheldon Richardson will 'surely' come at a higher price than the $54 million in guaranteed money to which DE Muhammad Wilkerson signed, according to's Darryl Slater. Richardson and the Jets are expected to start long-term contract negotiations next offseason as Richardson enters the fourth year of his rookie contract.

Our View: The Jets have used the fifth-year option on Richardson (a first-round pick in 2013), a move that will lock up Richardson through the 2017 season. We should see the two sides work towards an extension next offseason before Richardson hits free agency (so long as he stays healthy and stops getting suspended).

Jets | Muhammad Wilkerson may go on PUP list (Sat Jul 16, 09:49 AM) - New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson (leg) likely will begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list because the team wants to be cautious with him since he is returning from a broken leg. The Jets want to make sure he will be ready for the start of the regular season.

Our View: Camp PUP is no big deal--unlike the PUP list to start the regular season. If he's on the list to start camp, the Jets can decide to activate him at any time. We should not only see him on PUP to start training camp, but don't expect Wilkerson to get much playing time in the preseason either.
