Dolphins | MarQueis Gray out for season    Thu Sep 6, 11:27 AM

Miami Dolphins TE MarQueis Gray (Achilles') was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Thursday, Sept. 6. Free-agent TE Gavin Escobar (Dolphins) re-signed with the Dolphins on an undisclosed deal.

Footballguys view: More of a switch at blocking tight end than anything else, this should keep things stable in terms of blocking.

Dolphins | MarQueis Gray, A.J. Derby work with starters    Thu Jul 26, 02:16 PM

Miami Dolphins TEs MarQueis Gray and A.J. Derby were on the field with the first-team offense Thursday, July 26, when the team lined up in a two-tight end set.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins will do a lot of that, and both are decent blockers but not great pass catchers. We are waiting for rookie Mike Gesicki to get a shot, though his blocking leaves much to be desired.

Dolphins | Several TEs work with starters    Fri Jun 15, 04:14 PM

Miami Dolphins TEs Mike Gesicki, A.J. Derby, MarQueis Gray, Durham Smythe and Gavin Escobar all received snaps with the first-team offense during offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins don't have a clear picture at the TE position. Derby is an interesting 'F' tight end who can be used as a receiver only. Gesicki, the rookie second-round pick from Penn State, is also an 'F' tight end and a larger target than Derby...and likely more athletic. He can be groomed as the TE of the future, but Gesicki may take some time to develop in the pros. Gray is a physical player with surprising athleticism (former quarterback), while Smythe (2018 fourth-round pick) is your traditional 'Y' tight end with an all-purpose skill set.

Dolphins | MarQueis Gray lands new deal    Fri Dec 30, 12:21 AM

Miami Dolphins TE MarQueis Gray announced Thursday, Dec. 29, that he has signed a two-year deal to stay with the team.

Footballguys view: A converted college quarterback, Gray has bounced around the league but seems to have found a home with the Dolphins. So far in 2016, he's set career-highs in snaps (252), targets (17), receptions (14) and receiving yards (174) in 2016. He's strong, athletic and difficult to bring down with the ball in his hands. Still somewhat of a developmental player, the Dolphins want to continue to see how he progresses and could possibly use him more going forward.

Miami Dolphins CB Xavien Howard (knee) did not practice Friday, Oct. 15, and has been ruled out for Week 6. SS Isa Abdul-Quddus (knee), TE Marqueis Gray (calf), OG Anthony Steen (ankle) and OT Laremy Tunsil (ankle) were full participants and are listed as questionable, WR Jakeem Grant (ankle) was a full participant and was not on the injury report.

Footballguys view: Jones might be a game-time decision. If he can't go on Sunday, the best player in the Dolphins already weak back seven will be out for a matchup against the high octane Steelers pass offense.

Miami Dolphins TE MarQueis Gray said he is focusing on strengthening his upper body in order to enhance his ability as a blocker and compete for a spot on the 53-man roster.

Footballguys view: Gray is an athletic freak, but he's bounced around to five different teams since coming into the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota in 2013. We like his natural skill set, but it just seems like he's never going to do enough to stick no matter where he lands.

Bills | MarQueis Gray excited about offense    Mon Jul 13, 10:34 AM

Buffalo Bills TE MarQueis Gray is excited about playing in offensive coordinator Greg Roman's scheme with TE Charles Clay. 'This offense right here is tight end heaven,' Gray said. 'We move around so much that we really play receiver, slot, we play everything but running back. You could line up at any of those spots - that's the best part about this offense.' Gray also said this could be his breakout year. 'Especially with this offense and the opportunities coming my way - I'm going to take full advantage of it,' Gray said. 'I want to be that guy where defensive coordinators say 'Watch out for 48.' I want to put fear in the defense.'

Footballguys view: The tight ends may be in heaven, but the quarterback situation in Buffalo is a bit hellish. Matt Cassel has the most experience and could end up as the starter, although Tyrod Taylor is a sleeper in this battle. Gray is competing for the team's TE2 job behind Charles Clay. Fantasy owners should consider Clay at low-end TE2 with TE1 upside in certain matchups.
