Week 9: vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Mark and Joe say: Great matchup. Brian Hoyer (19/28 for 275 yards, one TD and zero interceptions passing vs. Oakland) avoided the hook last week as he led the Browns to a comfortable 23-13 win over the Raiders after his disastrous 16/41 for 215 yards passing, zero TDs and one interception thrown performance in the loss to then-winless Jacksonville. Reports out of Cleveland indicate that pressure was mounting for Johnny Manziel to start after the 6-24 disaster in Jacksonville, but that strain has been alleviated now (for the time being).
Andrew Hawkins had his long grind through various secondaries rewarded with a rare TD last week (nine targets for 7/88/1 receiving), while Taylor Gabriel (three for 2/60/0) also did some nice things for Hoyer. Jordan Cameron finally started rewarding his fantasy owners with a decent game (five for 3/40/0), but was then concussed and thrust into another injury rehab - and Cameron has a prior history of concussions, which may keep him out a considerable length of time, depending on the severity of this particular instance of brain trauma. Local reports indicate that Cameron may be forced to miss the next two games (this Sunday and then next Thursday's early game). Miles Austin continues to move the chains from time to time (two targets for 2/34/0 vs. Oakland last week).
The Buccaneer's pass D has been atrocious this year with 306 net yards and five TDs given up to Joe Flacco two games back and then 24/42 for 235 yards, one TD and zero interceptions allowed to rookie Teddy Bridgewater last week (one sack for -6 yards generated by Tampa in that game). To date, they are ranked 30th in the NFL averaging 286.0 net passing yards allowed per game, with a whopping 16 pass TDs allowed vs. a mere four interceptions (tied for 23rd in the NFL) and a paltry 10 sacks (tied for 26th) generated to date. Yikes, that is horrid, friends. Also, the Buccaneers went into full rebuilding mode before the trade deadline on Tuesday, sending starting S Mark Barron to St. Louis for draft picks - they are tearing down the defense BEFORE then end of the season, with LB Jonathan Casillas also shipped off to New England. Double Yikes!
