Week 4: at San Diego Chargers
All WR vs SD
Mark and Joe say: Tough matchup. Josh McCown showed us why he got the starting job back from Johnny Manziel in Week Three - even though the Browns didn't win, 28/49 for 341 yards passing, two TDs and one interception thrown is strong in anybody's book. One concern, though, is that McCown smacked his hand on a helmet and had some X-rays/treatment on his appendage after the contest on Sunday. Gary Barnidge (nine targets for 6/105/1 receiving) led the team vs. Oakland, while Travis Benjamin (10 for 4/45/1) continued his scoring binge - Brian Hartline hauled in 5/96/0 on seven targets. While Dwayne Bowe remains inactive, the other receivers on this team are making Cleveland respectable in this phase of the game.
The Chargers' pass D surrendered a mere 13/24 for 121 yards passing, with zero TDs and one interception at Minnesota last week (but were victimized for 31/163/3 in the other phase of the game) - to date, San Diego averages 189.3 net passing yards allowed per game, with five TDs given out vs. three interceptions generated (and a mere one sack so far).
The Browns are on the road this weekend, so the hostile environment tilts us towards calling this a tough passing matchup for McCown and company. Also, Isaiah Crowell has a tasty rushing matchup, so Cleveland may not need to throw the ball frequently in this one.
