Eagles | William Powell claimed Wed Jul 24, 04:42 PM
The Philadelphia Eagles have claimed RB William Powell off waivers from the Arizona Cardinals. The team also released WR Nick Miller.
Footballguys view: The Eagles are set to run the ball a lot under new head coach Chip Kelly. Powell is buried on the depth chart but around for veteran insurance. We'll see if he can make the team as the fifth RB behind LeSean McCoy, Bryce Brown, Felix Jones, and Chris Polk. |

Cardinals | William Powell expected to be returner Fri Jun 21, 04:17 PM
Arizona Cardinals special teams coach Amos Jones indicated RB William Powell will be the team's main kick returner this season. 'He's a downhill runner and I like downhill running,' Jones said. 'Our scheme is conducive to that. It's kinda one of those situations where the guy that can get the ball quick, tuck it quick, catch it going forward is probably the guy who's going to come out of that thing in the lead.'

Cardinals | No offer to LaRod Stephens-Howling Wed Dec 26, 07:39 PM
Arizona Cardinals RB LaRod Stephens-Howling has not received a contract offer from the team. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in March. Arizona wants to bring him back, but it looks as though he'll be able to at least test the market. The team still has RBs William Powell and Alfonso Smith.
Footballguys view: Stephens-Howling is a nice change of pace back who can produce if given a bigger role. Filling in as a starter earlier this year he had 104 yards rushing against the Vikings in week 7 and 127 yards rushing against the Falcons in week 11. |

Cardinals | Went with hot hand at running back Tue Oct 23, 06:41 PM
Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said the team went with RB LaRod Stephens-Howling in Week 7 against the Minnesota Vikings because he had the hot hand over RB William Powell. 'I always think that he's going to be a part of it. We went in planning to have a rotation like we normally do, but LaRod had the hot hand. We had a good running plan, felt like it was going to be able to get some runs in there. ... He had a nice day and it was good for us that he was able to run the ball that way.'
Footballguys view: Stephens-Howling did a good job of running between the tackles in addition to being dangerous in the open field. The Cardinals stayed with him and it payed off as he went over 100-yards rushing on the day. He should be the lead back going forward, but Powell will still play a role for this team as well. |

Cardinals | William Powell turns heads Sun Oct 14, 09:13 PM
Arizona Cardinals RB William Powell carried 14 times for a team-high 70 yards in the Week 6 game against the Buffalo Bills. He stepped up with RBs Beanie Wells (toe) and Ryan Williams (shoulder), and fellow RB LaRod Stephens-Howling struggling with just 11 carries and 22 yards.
Footballguys view: Powell had a good burst and the ability to get outside on his runs, which is key behind an Arizona offensive line that doesn't get a good push in the trenches. He looks like he'll have at least flex value for the next month or two if he can stay healthy. |

Cardinals | William Powell sees increased time Week 4 Mon Oct 1, 03:24 PM
Arizona Cardinals RB William Powell received more playing time in Week 4 than RB Ryan Williams because the team used the no-huddle offense at times during the game.
Footballguys view: Williams is not part of the no-huddle package at this point because of his development. Powell should only be rostered in super deep re-draft leagues or dynasty leagues. He was impressive as a runner in the preseason but will have to wait for a bigger opportunity. |

Cardinals | William Powell to start preseason finale Mon Aug 27, 11:47 PM
Arizona Cardinals RB William Powell will draw the start in the preseason finale Thursday, Aug. 30, against the Denver Broncos. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt indicated it was a chance for Powell to get a chance to face better competition on the defensive side of the ball.
Footballguys view: Powell has been a standout player this preseason. It looks like he can win the RB4 job on the team behind Ryan Williams, Beanie Wells, and LaRod Stephens-Howling. |

Cardinals | Alfonso Smith on the bubble Thu Aug 23, 10:48 AM
Arizona Cardinals RB Alfonso Smith is in jeopardy of being released in favor of RB William Powell, who has made several plays in the preseason.
Footballguys view: Powell has looked better than Smith this preseason. We like his balance, strong lower body, and determination as a runner. He could make the team as the fourth RB behind Beanie Wells, Ryan Williams, and LaRod Stephens-Howling. |

Cardinals | William Powell impressing coaches Mon Aug 20, 04:01 PM
Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said RB William Powell has been impressive during training camp and preseason. It is not known if Powell has a real chance to make the final roster.
Footballguys view: Powell is making the most of his opportunity and could stick around as the team's 4th RB behind Beanie Wells, Ryan Williams, and LaRod Stephens-Howling. We like his initial burst, lower body strength, and balance when running between the tackles. |

Cardinals | Alfonso Smith makes most of opportunity Sun Aug 5, 11:44 PM
With Arizona Cardinals RBs Beanie Wells (knee) and Ryan Williams (knee) sidelined for the Hall of Fame preseason game Sunday, Aug. 5, against the New Orleans Saints, RB Alfonso Smith took advantage of the extra work. He impressed with eight carries for 46 yards and a rushing touchdown. Smith is in the mix for the No. 3 tailback job. His competition for the job, RB LaRod Stephens-Howling, posted 25 rushing yards on four carries. William Powell had 10 carries, but he managed just 31 yards. He also had three grabs for 26 yards.
Footballguys view: Smith looked good changing direction and had good burst after his cuts. He could stick on the roster as the fourth RB behind Wells, Williams, and Stephens-Howling. |
