Week 7: vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers

All QB vs TB

FBG says: Good matchup. Teams aplenty have taken turns scorching the Buccaneers' toothless secondary, but the Bills may be hard-pressed to join the ranks. This passing game is built upon taking whatever advantage is earned by the running game and hitting on a timely big throw or two here and there - and even that's been a challenge with no dynamic WR1 (or even WR2) target to speak of. This unit was undermanned even before Jordan Matthews and Charles Clay went down with injuries; now, it's little more than a patchwork group that looked rudderless and punchless after Clay's Week 5 exit. Rookie Zay Jones (5 receptions on 23 targets) has been an abject disaster both down the field and underneath, while Andre Holmes has been predictably low-impact outside of 2 touchdowns from earlier in the season. It's always a shame to see such a cherry defensive matchup wasted on such an offensive situation. With Matthews and Clay likely both out, there's no receiver to boost against the Buccaneers' awful cornerback play. With perhaps the most burnable secondary of 2017, the Buccaneers have become one of the NFL's "best" matchups to plug-and-play against. Brent Grimes remains a stout cover man and ballhawk, and he's played near his typical level, but his fellow cornerbacks have been atrocious. Former first-round pick Vernon Hargreaves has been arguably the league's premier target; And slot man Robert McClain has been worked over as well, perhaps worse, by Kendall Wright (7 receptions for 69 yards), Adam Thielen (5 for 98), Chris Hogan (8-74-1), and Larry Fitzgerald (10-138-1). Altogether, it's hard to go wrong in seeking to exploit the Buccaneers pass defense. They've allowed the second-most yards and the third-most net yards per attempt.
