Broncos | Randy Moss would play in Denver    Mon Nov 10, 02:51 AM

Free-agent WR Randy Moss (49ers), who last played in Super Bowl XLVII for the San Francisco 49ers, would come out of retirement if the Denver Broncos and QB Peyton Manning came calling.

Footballguys view: The Broncos already have a stacked WR corps. Moss is just talking here, and we can't see the Broncos making a phone call to add the veteran wide receiver. It's a nice sentiment, but the reality is that Moss to the Broncos is unlikely to happen.

Titans | Justin Hunter getting praise    Wed Jul 16, 05:44 PM

Tennessee Titans WR Justin Hunter is drawing big comparisons to retired WR Randy Moss from WR Michael Preston. 'Not only is the sky the limit, I think he's going to be alright (personally),' Preston said.

Footballguys view: Hunter has an intriguing skill set because of his size/speed combination. He could be a breakout player for the Titans in 2014. His routes improved as a rookie last year, and the limited experience he gained in 2013 is invaluable. Watch him closely in the preseason to see if he's become a favorite of QB Jake Locker.

NFL | Randy Moss becomes high school coach    Thu Jun 26, 10:50 PM

Free-agent WR Randy Moss (49ers) is now the associate head coach at Victory Christian Center School. His son, Thaddeus Moss, plays on the team.

Footballguys view: It would probably be a lot of fun to be coached by Moss in high school. The "straight cash homie" references likely abound with the team.

NFL | Phone quiet for Randy Moss    Wed Aug 7, 12:35 AM

Free-agent WR Randy Moss (49ers) has not generated much interest from NFL teams at this point of training camp.

Footballguys view: This report comes as no surprise. Moss is not the same player he used to be in terms of athleticism, but is the same player he used to be with spotty effort.

49ers| GM doesn't rule out Randy Moss    Wed Jul 24, 11:43 AM

San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke declined to rule out re-signing free-agent WR Randy Moss (49ers), but he declined to say if the veteran had inquired about coming back. 'I can't say whether he has or hasn't. Once again, nobody's off limits. Nobody,' Baalke said.

Footballguys view: Moss wasn't overly productive last year for the 49ers posting a measly 28 catches. The team could look outside the facility for WR help if guys like A.J. Jenkins, Ricardo Lockette, and Kyle Williams don't impress in camp.

49ers | Randy Moss not an option    Wed May 22, 08:12 PM

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said the team isn't considering re-signing WR Randy Moss after learning that WR Michael Crabtree (Achilles') tore his Achilles' Wednesday, May 22. Harbaugh said the team is intrigued with the depth of young receivers they have on roster, and they are looking forward to them stepping up to the task. WR A.J. Jenkins, the team's 2012 first-round pick, will have a chance to make an impact in his second year. Jenkins has spent the offseason adding muscle and working with QB Colin Kaepernick.

Footballguys view: The team will turn to veteran Anquan Boldin for an even bigger role in 2013. Boldin can become the underneath target that Crabtree was in 2012. Crabtree had 451 receiving yards on throws within five yards of the line of scrimmage last year, the 6th most in the NFL.

NFL | Randy Moss' future undecided    Thu May 16, 04:07 PM

Free-agent WR Randy Moss (49ers) is still undecided if he will play football this season. There was reportedly interest in Moss a few months ago, although nothing has transpired since. Moss had only 434 yards last season.

Footballguys view: Moss feels he was underused last year. The 49ers didn't feature him enough as he'd like and we're not sure there's any team out there that would be willing to take a chance on Moss.

49ers | Randy Moss will not return    Sat Mar 2, 07:09 PM

The San Francisco 49ers have indicated that they will not look to re-sign impending free-agent WR Randy Moss this offseason.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Moss was complaining about his role in the offense and felt he wasn't used enough by the 49ers. He's certainly not the player he used to be and may have difficulty finding a new place to play in 2013.

49ers | Randy Moss voiced displeasure over role    Sat Feb 9, 08:20 AM

San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent WR Randy Moss conveyed his frustration about his role this past season, according to head coach Jim Harbaugh. 'In a competitive way, yes,' Harbaugh said. 'He wants to be involved. We've talked about it many times, suggestions he would make. It's all been positive. It's all been good.' Harbaugh would not say if Moss will return to the team in 2013. 'I don't know about that,' Harbaugh said. 'Next question.'

Footballguys view: Moss isn't as good as he thinks he is anymore. He's not the same player he used to be in terms of downfield speed and ball tracking ability. Moss is still a lazy route runner who doesn't fight for the ball. He may get some interest on the open market but we don't think teams will be falling all over themselves to sign him.

49ers | Randy Moss not expected to return    Wed Feb 6, 05:40 PM

San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent WR Randy Moss likely will not re-sign with team this offseason because he did not like his role during the season and likely would not receive a bigger role if he returned. Moss has said he would like another season in the NFL.

Footballguys view: Moss was unhappy with his role but still was taking plays off - even in the Super Bowl. Some teams may have a little interest but he's not the same player he used to be.

Saints | Randy Moss a possibility?     Sat Feb 2, 09:29 AM

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees initially laughed when asked about the possibility of the team pursuing San Francisco 49ers WR Randy Moss in the offseason; however, the quarterback pointed out that when Moss worked out for the Saints during his 2011 retirement, the coaches told him that Moss 'can still run.'

Footballguys view: Moss has not been happy with his role in the 49ers offense this season. Going to New Orleans would be a good thing for Moss but he's not the same player he used to be. His act would wear thin quickly just like it did during his final season with the up tempo Patriots offense.

Bears | Could be in the market for a wide receiver    Fri Feb 1, 02:59 PM

The Chicago Bears could be in the market for a free-agent wide receiver with injury concerns to WR's Earl Bennett and Alshon Jeffery. Among the veteran wide receivers Jeff Darlington of ESPN Chicago says could be available this year in free agency are Mike Wallace of the Steelers, Dwayne Bowe of the Chiefs, Wes Welker of the Patriots, Danny Amendola of the Rams, Julian Edelman of the Patriots, Brandon Gibson of the Rams, Greg Jennings of the Packers, Brandon Stokley of the Broncos, Donnie Avery of the Colts, Randy Moss of the 49ers, Domenik Hixon of the Giants and Brian Hartline of the Dolphins.

Footballguys view: The Bears should certainly be looking for more help in the passing game. Jeffery has huge upside but the team lacks weapons behind him on the depth chart. The free agent market is strong at the WR position and this might be the best WR draft class we've seen in 10 years.

Titans | Randy Moss critical of team     Thu Jan 31, 08:20 AM

San Francisco 49ers WR Randy Moss said he was 'blackballed' during his brief tenure with the Tennessee Titans and some of the team's coaches did not like him. 'Why they claimed me, I really don't know,' Moss said. 'There were some things where I could really tell I really wasn't liked, and that was coming from the coaching staff. To be able to still make plays ... there were some things going on in-house that I probably won't speak upon until I write my book.' Moss added that his stint with the Titans left him doubting his future in the NFL.

49ers | Randy Moss defends greatest ever comments    Wed Jan 30, 11:36 AM

San Francisco 49ers WR Randy Moss maintained his position that he is the best wide receiver to ever play the game. When asked about his stats compared to former NFL WR Jerry Rice, Moss said he didn't have the luxury of spending nearly 14 full seasons with former NFL QBs Joe Montana and Steve Young. 'I wouldn't base (being the greatest) off (stats) because if I had two Hall of Fame quarterbacks, where would my numbers be?' Moss said. 'I worked with one for a few years, and that's Tom Brady. Give me Tom Brady for the next five, six years, and you'll see where my numbers would be...'

San Francisco 49ers WR Randy Moss said he wasn't happy with his role on the team this season. 'I don't like my role. I really don't,' Moss said.

Patriots | Could consider Randy Moss    Mon Jan 28, 04:43 PM

The New England Patriots could look to add San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent WR Randy Moss in the offseason to help build their receiving depth. Moss had only two starts for the 49ers this year and caught 28 passes for 434 yards and three touchdowns.

Footballguys view: Moss isn't the same player he used to be but could be willing to sign for a low dollar deal. The Patriots should also focus on getting younger at the position.

49ers | Randy Moss likely to play another season    Mon Jan 28, 08:03 AM

San Francisco 49ers WR Randy Moss plans to play at least one more year, even if the team wins Super Bowl XLVII, according to a source with knowledge of the receiver's thinking. Moss is scheduled to become a free agent in March.

Footballguys view: Moss isn't the player he used to be and only caught 28 passes for 434 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2012. He did pick up 22 first downs and proved that he could still effectively move the chains, but he's not the big play threat that he once was.

49ers | Want Randy Moss to return     Sat Jan 19, 08:51 AM

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said he would like to see WR Randy Moss return to the team next season. Moss has slowly seen his role increase during the season, particularly with injuries to the receiving corps. 'I, for one, definitely want Randy to come back,' Harbaugh said. 'I hope he feels the same way.'

Footballguys view: We'll see how this season ends for the 49ers. If they win the Super Bowl then perhaps Moss will decide to retire. He's not the same player he used to be and won't be much of a fantasy factor if he does return to San Francisco in 2013.

49ers | Randy Moss, Delanie Walker seeing more PT    Wed Dec 26, 08:11 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Randy Moss and TE Delanie Walker have been seeing more playing time in the two games without WRs Mario Manningham (knee) and Kyle Williams (knee). Moss played 60.8 percent of the offensive snaps in the games Manningham and Williams weren't playing compared to 36.2 percent of the snaps in the other 13 games. Walker's time increased to 70.4 percent from 54.4 percent in the same games. WR A.J. Jenkins is expected to be active for games from now on, too. However, Jenkins has played in only eight snaps this year and hasn't had a ball thrown to him. WR Ted Ginn Jr. has played on 57 offensive snaps this year and has just two catches for one yard.

49ers | Randy Moss moves up depth chart     Wed Dec 26, 08:01 AM

San Francisco 49ers WR Randy Moss is now the team's No. 2 wide receiver on the depth chart following the season-ending injury to WR Mario Manningham (knee). Moss has pulled in just 26 catches for 406 yards and three touchdowns in limited work this season; however, he saw his snaps nearly double with Manningham out of the picture in Week 16.

Footballguys view: If the 49ers want to make a deep run in the postseason they'll need Moss to elevate his game. Second-year QB Colin Kaepernick needs Moss to stretch the field in order to open up underneath routes.

49ers | Randy Moss a fan of Colin Kaepernick     Thu Dec 13, 09:15 AM

San Francisco 49ers WR Randy Moss has been impressed with QB Colin Kaepernick this season, particularly his ability to lead. 'I think his ability to be able to come off the bench and lead a team, I think that's most important,' Moss said. '... I think Kap's been able to come in and just lead us as a whole unit. Anytime a guy can come in and lead like that, and I don't mean verbally - but leading by example - is what we us as football players look for in a player. Especially in a quarterback.   49ers | A.J. Jenkins unlikely to see much PT    Thu Nov 29, 03:41 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins would have to serve as the team's slot receiver in three-receiver formats in order to see much playing time, which is unlikely. WRs Michael Crabtree, Mario Manningham and Randy Moss are ahead of him, and Crabtree and Manningham are capable of playing the slot. Crabtree has lined up 96 times in the slot and Manningham has been there 41 snaps. They rank second and third in average yards from the slot among players with at least 40 plays in that position. Jenkins is unlikely to surpass Moss for usage in three-receiver sets.

Footballguys view: Many feel Jenkins was overdrafted when the 49ers selected him in the first-round of the 2012 NFL Draft. We're not expecting much from the rookie as he's currently buried on the depth chart.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald close to a milestone     Sat Oct 13, 11:07 AM

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald needs 48 more receiving yards to reach 10,000 in his career. Fitzgerald has averaged 67.4 yards per game this season, and he has reached or exceeded 48 yards in 95 of his 129 regular-season games (73.6 percent), so he should accomplish the feat in Week 6. Fitzgerald would join San Francisco 49ers WR Randy Moss as the only players in history to amass 10,000 receiving yards before turning 30.

Footballguys view: We're expecting a huge game from the Cardinals passing game on Sunday against Buffalo. The Bills have allowed over 1,200 yards of offense over the last two weeks. Fitzgerald could have those 48 yards in the first quarter of the contest.

'Next question,' Moss said when asked about his playing time. Moss finished with three catches for 27 yards.

Once a guy puts that on film year in and year out in the league, you can't look past that.'

Footballguys view: Moss still have incredible speed and can get on top of the defense in a hurry. If Alex Smith can play with more boldness then Moss could have a nice game. The 49ers may have to pass more on Sunday as they face off against the high powered Packers offense.
