News you need to know

General News (Fri Oct 24): needs to see more carries, according to head coach Tony Sparano. That doesn't mean you should go out and pickup Jones-Drew, but it could hurt the limited upside of Darren McFadden, who has been a decent flex play since he emerged in the Oakland backfield.

Week 8: at Cleveland Browns

Mark and Joe say: Good matchup. Darren McFadden scored a rushing TD last week! That's big news as he only has two this season, and the first one came in Week 2 of the 2014 season. As usual, he was under 4.0 yards per carry, with 14/48/1, and he turned eight pass targets into a mere 4/7/0, actually averaging less yards per catch than yards per carry. But hey, he's better for fantasy owners than Maurice Jones-Drew (3/6/0 rushing last week). At least McFadden is the clear lead back in this stable as of Week 8, albeit a weak fantasy option. The Browns' rush D collapsed in Jacksonville, giving up 35/185/2 to the new-look Jaguars' backfield led by Denard Robinson. Pittsburgh had 32/138/0 rushing at Cleveland two weeks back - their dead-last season average of 155.5 rushing yards allowed per game, with seven rushing scores given up is an accurate depiction of how the Browns' rush D is playing of late. McFadden isn't a fantasy stud most weeks, but he has a good matchup to work with here.

Recent Game Summaries

2014 Week 6 vs SD (4 / 30 / 0 rush, 1 / 1 / 10 / 0 rec)

After an uninspired first carry, Jones-Drew looked decent in the second quarter. His 9 yard carry included a well-timed cutback and ended with him trucking a defensive back. Two plays later he ran through an arm tackle for a 7 yard gain. Later in the drive Jones-Drew broke a tackle in the flats and picked up 10 yards on swing pass. Despite that success he only saw one touch in the second half. Jones-Drew is clearly well behind McFadden in the pecking order right now.

2014 Week 7 vs ARI (3 / 6 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)

Jones-Drew only saw three carries and didn't look like he deserved any more. He had a good hole on one of those, but was slow to hit the hole and only picked up three.

Raiders | Bigger role coming for MJD? (Sat Oct 11, 09:10 PM) - Oakland Radiers RB Maurice Jones-Drew has just 11 carries for 12 yards in two games this season, but interim head coach Tony Sparano said he wants him to share the load with RB Darren McFadden. 'I'd like Maurice to take a little bit greater role, maybe get some snaps off of Darren,' Sparano said. 'If we could, keep them both fresh that way, but we also have got to be running the football and doing some things that way too.'

Our View: McFadden is still the back that has been playing better and will get first run, so if you are going to own a Raiders back, it should be him.
