Week 7: vs Arizona Cardinals

Mark and Joe say: Bad matchup. Oakland - new coach (Tony Sparano), same results (Loss). Darren McFadden had ANOTHER game with zero touchdowns last week (he's only scored once over five games) - this time he did, at least, produce some yardage for his long-suffering fantasy owners, with 14/80/0 rushing and 2/6/0 receiving during the loss to San Diego. Maurice Jones-Drew is definitely the junior partner in this stable, with 4/30/0 rushing and 1/10/0 receiving last week - he has zero TDs on the season. Not a very inviting set of running backs for fantasy owners, are they? The Cardinals' rush D is currently third in the NFL averaging 75.8 yards allowed per game, with just three rushing scores given up to date. Last week, Washington was held to 17/72/0 on the ground; Denver had 28/92/1 two games ago. This is a bad matchup for the Raiders' backs.

Recent Game Summaries

2014 Week 4 vs MIA (2 / 1 / 0 rush, 2 / 2 / 2 / 0 rec)

Jones-Drew was not used at all in the first half and had no success once he did get in the game. He was surrounded as soon as he touched the ball and never had a chance to show whether he was fully recovered.

2014 Week 6 vs SD (4 / 30 / 0 rush, 1 / 1 / 10 / 0 rec)

After an uninspired first carry, Jones-Drew looked decent in the second quarter. His 9 yard carry included a well-timed cutback and ended with him trucking a defensive back. Two plays later he ran through an arm tackle for a 7 yard gain. Later in the drive Jones-Drew broke a tackle in the flats and picked up 10 yards on swing pass. Despite that success he only saw one touch in the second half. Jones-Drew is clearly well behind McFadden in the pecking order right now.

Latest News

Raiders | Bigger role coming for MJD? (Sat Oct 11, 09:10 PM) - Oakland Radiers RB Maurice Jones-Drew has just 11 carries for 12 yards in two games this season, but interim head coach Tony Sparano said he wants him to share the load with RB Darren McFadden. 'I'd like Maurice to take a little bit greater role, maybe get some snaps off of Darren,' Sparano said. 'If we could, keep them both fresh that way, but we also have got to be running the football and doing some things that way too.'

Our View: McFadden is still the back that has been playing better and will get first run, so if you are going to own a Raiders back, it should be him.
