Week 12: vs Kansas City Chiefs

Mark and Joe say: Tough matchup. The Raiders have nothing going for them in this phase of the game - Darren McFadden is the 26th-ranked fantasy running back in the land with a total of 113/393/2 rushing and 29/183/0 receiving so far this year (he has scored all TWO of the team's rushing TDs generated during 2014). Oakland is dead last in the NFL averaging 63 rushing yards per game. Last week, though, Latavius Murray out-gained McFadden by 22 yards rushing on half as many carries (4/43/0 rushing with 3/16/0 receiving for Murray, vs. 8/21/0 rushing and zero receptions on thre targets for McFadden), and it appears that the winds of change may be blowing through the Oakland stable. According to speculation in the Oakland press, Murray may have a bigger role going forwards now that the 0-10 Raiders are building for 2015. Why not let the youngster have an extended audition at this point in the season? The Chiefs' rush D is a bend-but-don't-break unit that is first in the NFL with zero rushing scores allowed, but ranked 25th in the NFL averaging 124.4 yards given up per game. Marshawn Lynch and company managed to post 37/204/0 rushing last week after the Bills had 22/111/0 two weeks ago - neither scored, though. This is a tough matchup for the Raiders' ho-hum backfield.

Recent Game Summaries

2014 Week 9 vs SEA (2 / -2 / 0 rush, 2 / 1 / 11 / 0 rec)

Jones-Drew only saw two carries in this game and he never had a chance to get past the line of scrimmage on either. His only positive play was a catch in the red zone on the final drive, where he broke two tackles and picked up 11 yards.

2014 Week 10 vs DEN (3 / 10 / 0 rush, 1 / 1 / 7 / 0 rec)

Jones-Drew's best carry was a six yard run up the middle late in the first half. He had a good hole and pushed the pile for the final 2 yards. He also had a 7 yard reception in garbage time over the middle. Jones-Drew only had 4 touches in entire game and does not look like a big part of the Raiders game plan.

2014 Week 11 vs SD (4 / 6 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)

Jones-Drew only saw four carries in the game and did very little with them. He received almost no help from his line and didn't have the elusiveness to gain yardage without a hole.

Raiders | Latavius Murray to be more involved? (Mon Nov 17, 05:21 PM) - Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray had four carries for 43 yards in the team's Week 11 loss to the San Diego Chargers, and his 23-yard run late in the third quarter was the team's longest rushing gain for a running back of the season. 'They've been wanting to get me in the mix more and that's all I can ask,' Murray said. 'When they do, I have to make sure they give me a reason to put me back in there.' Murray is a much bigger back than either RBs Darren McFadden or Maurice Jones-Drew, and he runs with an upright style. Oakland finished with 71 yards on 19 carries, which was their highest rushing output since Oct. 12 in their first matchup with the Chargers.

Our View: Murray is an interesting player to monitor in dynasty leagues. He reminds us of former Titans RB Chris Brown because Murray is a tall, upright runner with swiftness and speed in the open field.
