Week 13: at St. Louis Rams

Mark and Joe say: Good matchup. Latavius Murray had his chance to headline for the Raiders against the Chiefs, and he capitalized with 4/112/2 rushing during the 24-20 upset of Kansas City. Unfortunately, he was concussed midway through the game, which returned the plodding Darren McFadden (12/29/0 rushing with 2/5/0 receiving) to the lead rusher's role - the contrast between the two was stark, though, and afterwards Tony Sparano acknowledged that Murray had 'earned more touches' - however, as of midweek Murray hadn't been cleared through the NFL concussion protocols - stay tuned to's players in the news for the latest on Murray's practice status as the weekend approaches. If he can go, he's likely the Raiders new starting running back. The Rams' defense got shocked in San Diego last week, allowing 22/128/1 to the Chargers' stable of backs. Two weeks ago, they stabled the Broncos' backs holding Denver to 10/28/0 rushing - the Rams have been up and down in this phase of the game lately. To date, the Rams average 115.8 rushing yards allowed per game (tied for 19th in the NFL), with 10 rushing scores given up over 11 games. If Murray can play, count this as a good matchup. If the Raiders are stuck with McFadden, consider it a tough matchup.

Recent Game Summaries

2014 Week 10 vs DEN (3 / 10 / 0 rush, 1 / 1 / 7 / 0 rec)

Jones-Drew's best carry was a six yard run up the middle late in the first half. He had a good hole and pushed the pile for the final 2 yards. He also had a 7 yard reception in garbage time over the middle. Jones-Drew only had 4 touches in entire game and does not look like a big part of the Raiders game plan.

2014 Week 11 vs SD (4 / 6 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)

Jones-Drew only saw four carries in the game and did very little with them. He received almost no help from his line and didn't have the elusiveness to gain yardage without a hole.

2014 Week 12 vs KC (3 / -1 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)

As good as Murray looked, Jones-Drew looked awful. He had no burst at all and no ability to get to the quickly closing holes. Jones-Drew looks completely finished as an NFL running back unless he can get to a situation with a much better offense and run blocking.

Raiders | Latavius Murray to be more involved? (Mon Nov 17, 05:21 PM) - Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray had four carries for 43 yards in the team's Week 11 loss to the San Diego Chargers, and his 23-yard run late in the third quarter was the team's longest rushing gain for a running back of the season. 'They've been wanting to get me in the mix more and that's all I can ask,' Murray said. 'When they do, I have to make sure they give me a reason to put me back in there.' Murray is a much bigger back than either RBs Darren McFadden or Maurice Jones-Drew, and he runs with an upright style. Oakland finished with 71 yards on 19 carries, which was their highest rushing output since Oct. 12 in their first matchup with the Chargers.

Our View: Murray is an interesting player to monitor in dynasty leagues. He reminds us of former Titans RB Chris Brown because Murray is a tall, upright runner with swiftness and speed in the open field.
