Bears | Worked out Jason Hill    Thu Aug 29, 04:05 PM

The Chicago Bears recently worked out free-agent WR Jason Hill (Jets) Monday, Aug. 26.

Footballguys view: Hill is a speedster who can get open downfield. He can also be used as a return man. The Bears are looking for depth behind Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery, and rookie Marquess Wilson (Washington State).

Jets | Tim Tebow package causing confusion     Wed Oct 10, 08:33 AM

The New York Jets wasted two timeouts and hurried another play in the fourth quarter of Week 5, and the common denominator was the QB Tim Tebow package. Head coach Rex Ryan insists he still likes the package, and said things got out of whack when WR Clyde Gates (shoulder) left with a shoulder injury. As a result, the team had to use recently-signed WR Jason Hill in some of the Tebow packages. 'It's just that we had to put somebody in, in an unfamiliar position for him,' Ryan said. '(He) hadn't practiced it. Hopefully, we get guys that will be here longer than three or four days or whatever (and) maybe he'll pick it up.'

Footballguys view: That lack of preparation can be placed squarely on the shoulders of the coaching staff. Rarely do we see a professional team suffer from this type of sub-package confusion.

Jets | Chaz Schilens sees most snaps of WRs MNF    Tue Oct 9, 10:20 PM

New York Jets WR Chaz Schilens led the wide receivers corps in Week 5 against the Houston Texans Monday, Oct. 8, with 52 offensive snaps, or 91 percent of the team's plays. WR Jeremy Kerley was second with 44 snaps, or 77 percent. WR Jason Hill was on the field for 21 snaps, or 37 percent, while WR Clyde Gates saw nine snaps, and CB Antonio Cromartie lined up as a wideout on three different snaps.

Footballguys view: Schilens is a talented but oft-injured player. We're not expecting him to do much even with extended playing time due to the injury to Santonio Holmes.

Jets | Jason Hill signs     Wed Oct 3, 11:30 AM

Updating a previous item, the New York Jets have signed free-agent WR Jason Hill (Broncos). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Hill comes on board to take the place of Santonio Holmes, who goes on IR with a season ending Lis Franc injury. During Broncos training camp Hill made a few plays with his deep speed but lacks consistency and isn't much of a fantasy option.

In corresponding moves, the team signed free-agent CB Morgan Trent (Colts) and practice squad SS DuJuan Harris to their active roster. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Jaguars | Jason Hill leads team    Fri Aug 12, 01:13 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Jason Hill led the team in receiving in a preseason loss to the New England Patriots Thursday, Aug. 11. Hill hauled in three passes for 37 yards.

Footballguys view: Hill didn't make the big downfield catches he was making late last year, but he did at least look the part of a starter. He has been very quiet in training camp.

Jaguars | Developing WRs    Sat Aug 6, 06:41 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking for WRs Jason Hill and Mike Thomas to develop in a starting role with the team.

Footballguys view: Hill made some plays downfield late last year after he passed Mike Sims-Walker on the depth chart. He's a great deep sleeper in PPR leagues with long benches. Thomas is a viable WR3 in PPR leagues who is underrated in most drafts. He could easily catch 75-80 balls this year.

Jaguars | Are not pursuing a wide receiver     Thu Aug 4, 10:59 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars are not expected to pursue a big-name wide receiver in free agency. One reason is faith in starting WRs Mike Thomas and Jason Hill, but the team also considers RB Maurice Jones-Drew and TE Marcedes Lewis part of the passing game and believe the area will be productive.

Footballguys view: The Jags have one of the most underwhelming group of wide receivers in the league. We love Mike Thomas but know that his skill set is limited. Hill has good upside but will need to play with more consistency now that he's relied on as a starter. Jarett Dillard and Cecil Shorts will battle for the spots behind them on the depth chart. Dillard is a physical freak with good hands and body control, but has failed to stay healthy during his pro career. Shorts is a slot receiver at best, but may lack the explosiveness to make an impact at the pro level.

Jaguars | Rookie WR Shorts to compete against Dillard    Wed Jun 1, 07:10 PM

John Oehser, from Jaguars.com, reports Jaguars GM Gene Smith recently commented on the WR depth chart. Mike Thomas and Jason Hill are likely the starters, while rookie Cecil Shorts will compete against Jarett Dillard for the third spot. "Both of these guys (Shorts and Dillard) have good speed on the inside. They're both strong and they both have excellent hands. Dillard has played some outside and Cecil has played outside, so they could play outside, but they both have the versatility to compete inside." Smith said.

Footballguys view: Our very own Cecil Lammey watched Shorts up close during the week of practice for the Shrine Game earlier this year in Orlando and came away unimpressed. Shorts looked better on film, but the level of competition at Mount Union leaves a lot to be desired. In person Shorts didn't show the same quickness and struggled to get open against press coverage. He also showed below average hands and let too many passes hit the ground. Dillard has much better upside but needs to stay healthy in order to play up to his potential.

Jaguars | Logjam at the WR position    Fri May 13, 05:59 PM

Charlie Bernstein, from Scout.com, reports the Jacksonville Jaguars have a logjam at the wide receiver position. Jacksonville feels fairly confident in the trio of Mike Thomas, Jason Hill and rookie Cecil Shorts. Any preseason contribution from Jarett Dillard would be considered a plus. It does not appear as if Tiquan Underwood will get his third shot to make the roster as he's proven himself to not be ready for NFL competition.

Footballguys view: Thomas is a trusted target of QB David Garrard, while Hill may be a sneaky fantasy producer you can get late in your drafts. Rookie Cecil Shorts runs good routes, but needs to keep passes away from his chest. Dillard is extremely gifted athletically but injuries have set his young career back. Underwood may be on his way out of Jacksonville because of the logjam at the position.

Jaguars | Jason Hill might start in 2011    Sun Apr 24, 01:49 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Jason Hill might start opposite WR Mike Thomas barring any free agent moves or high draft picks, reports Vito Stellino, of The Florida Times-Union. Hill posted 11 receptions in six games after signing with the Jaguars after a release by the San Francisco 49ers.

Footballguys view: Hill finally started living up to his potential last year in his first season with the Jaguars. We expect Hill to keep earning the trust of QB David Garrard and could be more of a factor in the passing game than some people think.

Jaguars | Jason Hill re-signed    Fri Mar 4, 12:14 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars have re-signed WR Jason Hill, reports The Associated Press. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Jaguars | Jason Hill starts in Week 16    Mon Dec 27, 11:50 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Jason Hill got the start in Week 16, reports Tania Ganguli, of The Florida Times-Union. Hill was making his first start since being picked up off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers Nov. 17. 'I feel comfortable here,' Hill said. 'I think the work that I'm putting in on the practice field is beginning to translate.'

Footballguys view: Hill is a great deep dynasty prospect with Mike Sims-Walker likely leaving in free agency next year. You have to wonder what San Francisco missed when they let him go.
