Redskins | 15 players released Sat Aug 31, 12:14 PM
The Washington Redskins have released RB Keiland Williams, RB Jawan Jamison, WR Skye Dawson, WR Nick X. Williams, WR Lance Lewis, TE Emmanuel Ogbuehi, OT Tony Pashos, OT Xavier Nixon, OL Tevita Stevens, DL Chigbo Anunoby, DL Dominique Hamilton, DT Ron Brace, LB Vic So'oto, CB Chase Minnifield and SS DeJon Gomes.
Footballguys view: Williams lost out to Evan Royster for a spot in the backfield behind Alfred Morris and Roy Helu. He can line up at running back or fullback and could latch on with another team in the near future. He can also contribute on special teams. |

Redskins | Two players suffer shoulder injuries Thu Aug 29, 09:32 PM
Washington Redskins RB Keiland Williams (shoulder) and WR Dezmon Briscoe (shoulder) each suffered shoulder sprains during the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 29.
Footballguys view: Williams is fighting with Evan Royster to win a backup spot on the depth chart behind Alfred Morris and Roy Helu. We'll see if this shoulder injury hurts his chances of making the final roster. |

Redskins | Three RBs competing for two spots Wed Aug 28, 12:47 PM
Washington Redskins RBs Evan Royster, Chris Thompson and Keiland Williams appears to be battling for one or two roster spots, depending on how many running backs the team keeps. Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said the roster spots for reserve running backs remain 'up for grabs' heading into the preseason finale Thursday, Aug. 29. Thompson helps his cause, as he might be used in the punt return game.
Footballguys view: Thompson is the fastest and most explosive out of the three. The rookie has a good shot of making the final roster. Williams has better position versatility than Royster as he can play both fullback and running back. |

Redskins | Keiland Williams misses practice Thu Aug 22, 12:17 AM
Washington Redskins RB Keiland Williams (knee) missed practice Wednesday, Aug. 21, due to a knee injury.
Footballguys view: Williams has position versatility and can line up at fullback or running back. The Redskins have a jampacked backfield and Williams is most certainly on the roster bubble. |

Redskins | Keiland Williams signs Tue Oct 23, 01:52 PM
The Washington Redskins signed free-agent RB Keiland Williams (Lions) Tuesday, Oct. 23, and released RB Ryan Grant in a corresponding move. Grant had only one carry for five yards.
Footballguys view: Williams gives the team more versatility at the RB position than Grant does. He could end up challenging Evan Royster to be the team's change of pace/third-down back behind Alfred Morris. |

Lions | Happy with Keiland Williams, Joique Bell Sat Jun 30, 01:43 PM
Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said the team did not sign a veteran running back this offseason because they were happy with how RBs Keiland Williams and Joique Bell performed during offseason workouts. Williams and Bell are expected to compete for the No. 3 running back job during training camp.
Footballguys view: Bell has a little more burst to his game, but Williams is the more natural runner. The backup RB situation in Detroit is one to monitor given the injury history of both Jahvid Best and Mikel LeShoure. |

Lions | Several RBs competing for roster spot Mon Jun 25, 06:24 PM
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell, Stephfon Green and Keiland Williams and FB James Bryant will compete for the No. 4 running back spot in the roster. WR Stefan Logan could also be a candidate for that spot since the team has several wide receivers that are expected to make the team.
Footballguys view: We like Bell or Williams to win the RB4 job in Detroit. Bell is an instinctive runner who is effective between the tackles, and has the size to run through arm tackles. Williams is also an inside runner but has a few more moves and better burst in the open field. |

Lions | Running back a need Sat Mar 3, 01:32 AM
The Detroit Lions need to address their running back position during the NFL Draft or free-agent market. While RBs Jahvid Best (concussion) and Mikel Leshoure (Achilles') are under contract, the team enters the offseason without a clear No. 1 running back. If Best and Leshoure return at 100 percent, the Lions will be in good shape -- however, that is tough to bank on at this point in time. RBs Joique Bell, Jerome Harrison and Keiland Williams are also under contract.

Lions | Kevin Smith could play Thu Nov 10, 03:56 PM
Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan is not ruling out RB Kevin Smith seeing some action in Week 10 versus the Chicago Bears. 'I could see him playing some this game,' Linehan said. 'The expectation is to get to Sunday and see where we are. The other two guys (Maurice Morris and Keiland Williams) are ready to go. There is a scenario there where Kevin can play for us.'
Footballguys view: Smith came to the Lions in great shape, and knows the offense well. We're not expecting him to do much this week, but he could emerge as the season goes on. It's looking more and more like Jahvid Best may be weeks away from returning to the field. |

Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best (concussion) is unlikely to play in Week 10 against the Chicago Bears, according to a league source. RBs Maurice Morris, Keiland Williams and now Kevin Smith are likely in the mix for touches if Best is indeed out.
Footballguys view: No one can say with certainty when Best will return, and the Lions signing of Kevin Smith indicates that they may not believe it will happen soon. |

Lions | Keiland Williams totals 11 rushes in blowout win Sun Oct 30, 08:06 PM
Detroit Lions RB Keiland Williams carried 11 times for just 25 yards in Week 8 against the Denver Broncos, and he added a five-yard reception. Williams saw 12 total touches, second-most on the team, with RB Jahvid Best (concussion) sidelined.
Footballguys view: If Williams can't put up a solid game in this contest, then he should be dropped. |

Lions | Jahvid Best not expected to play Wed Oct 26, 05:44 PM
Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best (concussion) is expected to miss the team's Week 8 game against the Denver Broncos.

Lions | Stefan Logan may see work Thu Oct 20, 03:25 PM
Detroit Lions WR Stefan Logan may see some work at tailback in Week 7 against the Detroit Lions with RB Jahvid Best (concussion) suffering from a concussion. RBs Maurice Morris and Keiland Williams will also see increased action. 'We've considered that,' offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said. 'We use him some (there), and did last year. He's definitely going to be in the mix. I don't know how much he'll get, but I can see him getting a few cracks at it.' Logan has three carries for seven yards this year and had 15 for 95 yards last year.

Lions | Keiland Williams claimed Mon Sep 5, 02:29 PM
The Detroit Lions have claimed free-agent RB Keiland Williams (Redskins) off waivers. In a corresponding move, the team released OL Chris Morris.
Footballguys view: Williams gives the team another option behind Jahvid Best and Jerome Harrison. He is a straight ahead runner who runs with a low center of gravity and can grind down a defense. He won't be much of a fantasy factor unless injuries hit in front of him on the depth chart. |

The Washington Redskins opened training camp with RBs Ryan Torain, Keiland Williams, James Davis, Shaun Draughn, Roy Helu Jr. and Evan Royster. For the past six training camps, RB Clinton Portis opened camp as the team's No. 1 running back, but now the team has a battle to begin in training camp for the starting tailback duties. Redskins | Could go with 'hot hand' approach at RB Wed May 18, 06:34 PM
Matt Williamson, from ESPN.com and Scouts Inc, believes Redskins coach Mike Shanahan could go with a 'hot hand' approach at the RB position. This means a workload spread amongst Ryan Torain, Roy Helu, and Evan Royster.
Footballguys view: Fantasy wise this could be like playing roulette. Add in Keiland Williams as a potential third-down back and the situation gets even more cloudy. |

Redskins | Keiland Williams could be third-down back Thu May 12, 12:30 PM
Washington Redskins RB Keiland Williams could take over the third-down back role next season if he is able to pick up the blitz consistently.
Footballguys view: Williams made some mental mistakes last year that earned him a trip to Mike Shanahan's doghouse. He is a very instinctive runner, who sees the field well and has the footwork to make people miss. Williams should once again be a change of pace back behind Torain in 2011. |

Redskins | Keiland Williams likely a third-down back Thu Mar 10, 02:39 AM
Washington Redskins RB Keiland Williams settled into a third-down back role last season, and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said his value as a blocker on passing downs was 'crucial,' reports Gary Fitzgerald, of Redskins.com. 'He got in a role where he really helped us out on third downs,' Shanahan said. 'By the end of the year he was the best in terms of helping us in protections, especially after (RB Clinton Portis) went down. We needed Keiland and he did a great job in protections.'

Redskins | Two RBs likely to split carries in practice Mon Nov 29, 03:12 PM
Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said RBs Keiland Williams and James Davis likely will share reps during practice this week but is not sure which will start in Week 13, reports The Washington Post. Shanahan said he has confidence in both running backs.
Footballguys view: More Shanahanigans here. Keiland Williams is a versatile runner who can be productive on the ground or as a receiver out of the backfield. However, James Davis seems like a favorite of Shanahan and may get an extended look going forward. |

Washington Redskins RB Keiland Williams will start in the teams Week 12 game, according to ESPN.com. RB James Davis will serve as the primary backup.

Redskins | Clinton Portis back in Week 11 Fri Nov 19, 03:55 PM
Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis (groin) will return to the field in Week 11 against the Tennessee Titans after missing five games, according to The Washington Post's Rick Maese. 'If we didn't feel good about him, we wouldn't play him,' head coach Mike Shanahan said. 'He looked like he'd be good to go.' RB Ryan Torain (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 11. Shanahan would not discuss the exact role that Portis would play against the Titans. If Portis handles the majority of the work, RB Keiland Williams could be designated as the third-down back.
Footballguys view: We're not expecting much from Portis in his return this week. He will split time with Keiland Williams, and may be eased back into the lineup slowly. |

Washington Redskins RB Ryan Torain (hamstring) will see a doctor about his latest setback from a hamstring injury, according to CBSSports.com. Torain was going to play in Week 10, but tweaked his hamstring warming up before the game. RB Keiland Williams started in Torain's place.
Footballguys view: Keiland Williams is a more versatile back than Torain, and proved last night that he could be used effectively as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. |

Redskins | Keiland Williams scores three times in Week 10 Tue Nov 16, 02:40 AM
Washington Redskins RB Keiland Williams ran the ball 16 times for 89 yards and two touchdowns in Washington's 59-28 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 10, according to NFL.com. Williams also caught four passes for 50 yards and one touchdown.
Footballguys view: Williams got the start when Ryan Torain's hamstring didn't respond in warmups. Torain could return next week, and Williams got his points against a defense nursing a giant lead, so don't assume that this is Williams breakout game. |

Redskins | Likely will add Keiland Williams to roster Wed Oct 6, 03:15 PM
The Washington Redskins likely will add practice squad RB Keiland Williams to the active roster before their Week 5 game, reports The Washington Post.
Footballguys view: Keiland Williams outlasted both Larry Johnson and Willie Parker on the Redskins roster this year and was only cut last week. Now he's back and should be activated as the primary backup to Ryan Torain. Williams should be ready to play as Torain has an upright running style which leads to him absorbing a lot of punishment. |

Redskins | Sign two RBs to practice squad Wed Oct 6, 01:59 PM
The Washington Redskins have signed free-agent RBs Keiland Williams and Javarris James to their practice squad, reports Matt Terl, of Redskins.com.
Footballguys view: Keiland Williams is back with the Redskins after getting cut a week ago. He is a good all around back with good field vision and size. Javarris James was released by the Patriots, but is not nearly the same back that Williams is. James is instinctive, but he lacks the power or speed that could really set him apart. |

Redskins | Two UDFAs signed Thu Apr 29, 09:26 PM
Rick Maese, of The Washington Post, reports The Washington Redskins have signed undrafted rookie free-agents TE Logan Paulsen (California-Los Angeles) and RB Keiland Williams (Louisiana State). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: We loved Keiland Williams while he was in college at LSU. He spent his time with the Bayou Bengals as a career backup (behind Charles Scott), but he's an instinctive runner with big play ability. He's not afraid to run between the tackles and does a good job of picking up his feet going through trash at the line of scrimmage. Williams may spend his first season on the practice squad, but could develop into a fine starter in a couple of years. |

NFL | 12 from Louisiana State invited to NFL Combine Tue Feb 2, 11:25 PM

Footballguys view: Holliday is a diminutive playmaker in the mold of Cardinals RB LaRod Stephens-Howling. Lafell is considered to be one of the best wide receivers in this draft class. Scott will remind people of former Bengals RB Rudi Johnson, and Keiland Williams will have to earn his way on special teams - but has the skill set to contribute as a running back. |
