Bears | Three locks at WR, open after that    Tue Jul 23, 11:18 AM

Chicago Bears WRs Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery and Earl Bennett are locks for the 53-man roster, but after that it is wide open. WRs Joe Anderson and Eric Weems might lock up a fourth receiver job, and could be battling each other since they are each solid on special teams. WR Devin Aromashodu is in the mix for a job, and then there is seventh-round pick Marquess Wilson and WR Devin Hester, who is more known for his prowess as a return man. The team is likely to keep five receivers plus Hester.

Footballguys view: We like Wilson in this competition for the final spot on the depth chart. Wilson is a dangerous playmaker downfield who has excellent body control. He's got the size (6'2") to be a factor in the red zone as well. Problems with the coaching staff at Washington State caused him to quit the team in 2012. This made his stock tumble to the seventh-round of the 2013 NFL draft.

Bears | Two WRs added    Mon Jun 10, 02:16 PM

The Chicago Bears have signed free-agent WR Devin Aromashodu (Vikings) and WR Jerrell Jackson (Jacksonville). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. The team also waived WRs Demetrius Fields and Dale Moss.

Footballguys view: The Bears are trying to find quality depth at the WR position. Aromashodu returns to Chicago after playing with the Bears from 2008-2010. He brings a vertical element to the field but has not developed as a route runner during his pro career. Jackson was an UDFA (2012) out of Missouri and is known for his run after the catch ability.

Vikings | Devin Aromashodu could return    Mon Jan 28, 01:09 PM

The Minnesota Vikings could consider re-signing impending free-agent WR Devin Aromashodu this offseason but likely only to a one-year deal with minimal guarantees.

Footballguys view: The Vikings need to upgrade the WR position behind Percy Harvin. Aromashodu is a solid veteran but his upside is low and they need more impact players on the passing game.

Vikings | Passing game struggles in Week 13    Mon Dec 3, 07:56 PM

Minnesota Vikings WRs Michael Jenkins, Stephen Burton and Devin Aromashodu were targeted a total of five times in the team's Week 13 loss against the Green Bay Packers. WR Jerome Simpson finished with two catches (seven targets) for 25 yards, and WR Jarius Wright had only one catch for 13 yards. 'I don't want to make it sound bad, but never in my life have I been a part of something like this,' Wright said. 'I don't even know how to say it.' TE Kyle Rudolph led the aerial assault with six receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown, and QB Christian Ponder went 12-for-25 (48 percent completion rate) for 119 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Ponder's longest completion went for only 21 yards, and the Vikings' receivers were not able to gain much separation.

Vikings | Will continue to get ball to Devin Aromashodu    Mon Aug 20, 01:06 PM

The Minnesota Vikings will continue to try to throw to WR Devin Aromashodu in their third preseason game.

Footballguys view: The Vikings are looking for WR help behind Percy Harvin and Jerome Simpson. Aromashodu has not caught a pass yet this preseason despite being targeted nine times. It's looking more and more like Michael Jenkins and Stephen Burton will be the primary replacements while Simpson serves his three game suspension.

Vikings | Devin Aromashodu may not make final roster    Mon Jun 25, 01:49 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Devin Aromashodu may not make the final roster this season if the team's younger wide receivers are able to develop during training camp.

Footballguys view: The rookie duo from Arkansas (Jarius Wright, Greg Childs) may emerge in camp and push Aromashodu off the roster. We like Wright's speed, route running, and moves after the catch. He could develop into a quality slot WR eventually. Childs is coming back from a patella tendon injury he suffered his junior year in college. His senior season was unimpressive, but Childs could develop into a quality WR2 if he can regain his pre-injury form.

Vikings | Percy Harvin a big part of offense    Fri Nov 11, 02:55 PM

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave said that WR Percy Harvin remains a big part of the team's offense moving forward. 'I don't know that he can go as many plays as Michael Jenkins or Devin Aromashodu can. But we definitely want to have him in there at least three out of every four snaps to utilize him. Plus he's tough for the defense to deal with even when he doesn't get the ball,' Musgrave said.

Footballguys view: Harvin is supposedly over his rib ailment. He is a very strong play this week vs. a Packers secondary that is vulnerable to big plays.

The Minnesota Vikings reached an agreement on a one-year deal with free-agent WR Devin Aromashodu (Bears) Tuesday, July 26. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Vikings | Interested in Devin Aromashodu    Tue Jul 26, 06:54 PM

The Minnesota Vikings are strongly considering unrestricted free-agent WR Devin Aromashodu (Bears).

Bears | Devin Aromashodu not tendered contract    Fri Mar 4, 07:14 PM

The Chicago Bears did not tender an offer to impending free-agent WR Devin Aromashodu, which makes him an impending free agent, report Dan Pompei and Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Tribune.

Footballguys view: Aromashodu was a favorite target of QB Jay Cutler, but will now have to find another team. We don't expect many teams to be interested in him, but he should stick around on a roster somewhere as veteran depth.

Bears | Devin Aromashodu may not return    Wed Jan 26, 09:38 AM

The Chicago Bears may not be interested in re-signing impending restricted free-agent WR Devin Aromashodu during the offseason, reports Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Tribune.

Footballguys view: Aromashodu has quarterback Jay Cutler in his corner as the two are close and have good chemistry on the field, but that may not be enough to keep him around in Chicago.

Bears | Devin Aromashodu unsure of his role    Thu Sep 30, 10:28 AM

Chicago Bears WR Devin Aromashodu is unsure why his role has decreased during the course of the season, according to Jeff Dickerson, of ESPNChicago.com. After leading the Bears with 10 passes thrown his way in Week 1, Aromashodu has disappeared from the game plan. He didn't see a pass come his way in Week 2 and was inactive for Week 3. 'We've talked briefly, but not as far as the reason why I didn't play,' Aromashodu said when asked if he has spoken with offensive coordinator Mike Martz. 'Obviously, they saw something that maybe they felt I didn't do that other players brought. So they went with that. I don't know (what exactly I did wrong). I would have to go and discuss that with them to find out.'

Footballguys view: Aromashodu was Jay Cutler's favorite target in week one, but has been a non-factor since then. His inconsistent play has landed him in the doghouse and he doesn't seem likely to get out of it anytime soon.

WR Earl Bennett played more in Aromashodu's absence, receiving 24 snaps. WR Devin Hester also was targeted a team-high six times after receiving just one target in Week 1.   Bears | Devin Hester saw plenty of coverage in Week 1    Fri Sep 17, 10:30 AM

Chicago Bears WR Devin Hester caught only one pass in Week 1 because he faced double-coverage for most of the game, according to wide receivers coach Darryl Drake, reports Jeff Dickerson, of ESPNChicago.com. 'There were some times he wasn't open,' Drake said. 'They had bracket coverage over there a lot of the times to take him away. They would also roll a corner up on him with a safety. If that happens, you are going to go to the other side. That's why D.A. (WR Devin Aromashodu) had so many opportunities coming to him, because he had one-on-one matchups. Devin, a couple times, may have been a step off from where he needed to be. That's being in those proper spots. We''ll get better at it and a lot of it too was probably some of me. They played some different looks that they have not shown, (and) I got to do a better job coaching and preparing them versus every look you can possibly see.'

Footballguys view: This is a great sign of respect for Hester, and a reason to keep him on your bench before doing anything hasty this week.

Chicago Bears WRs Devin Hester, Johnny Knox and Devin Aromashodu have settled in as the team's top three receivers, reports Tom Musick, of The Northwest Herald.

Bears | Devin Aromashodu a starter    Thu Aug 19, 05:05 PM

Chicago Bears WR Devin Aromashodu is being considered a starter by the team, alongside WRs Johnny Knox and Devin Hester, according to the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs. 'All three of those guys are at the top of the depth chart,' wide receivers coach Darryl Drake said. 'We've got three starters. There ain't no buts. You listen to what I said. We have three starters right now. Don't try to get me to say what you want me to say. I just told you what the deal was.' Aromashodu finished last year as QB Jay Cutler's preferred target. 'He has progressed every week and we're making it hard on him,' offensive coordinator Mike Martz said. 'He's not had the mental errors I thought he might have.'

Footballguys view: Aromashodu doesn't fit the traditional mold of a Mike Martz receiver, but he has earned the trust of Jay Cutler through his play. We feel Johnny Knox could have the most value out of the trio of talented receivers in Chicago, and his current ADP is behind that of Aromashodu.

Chicago Bears WR Devin Aromashodu had four receptions for 78 yards, including a seven-yard touchdown, against the San Diego Chargers Saturday, Aug. 14.

Footballguys view: Aromashodu looked good, but he was catching passes from backup QB Caleb Hanie. He is a high-upside WR5 or WR6, but this should get his over-inflated ADP back to reality.

Bears | Devin Aromashodu seeing time at all WR spots    Thu Aug 5, 02:16 PM

Chicago Bears WR Devin Aromashodu is seeing practice time at all three of the wide receiver spots during training camp, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Footballguys view: Aromashodu has the highest ADP out of any of the Bears WRs but we think that both Johnny Knox and Devin Hester would make for better picks. Hester and Knox have the physical skill set which makes them perfect for the Mike Martz offense. Aromashodu doesn't really fit because he lacks the speed and explosion needed to work effectively in this system.

Bears | Iglesias from zip to hip?    Sat Jun 19, 07:18 PM

CBSSports.com reports Bears second-year WR Juaquin Iglesias thinks he can go the Earl Bennett route (or Robert Meachem route) by making an impact after not catching a pass as a rookie. Iglesias has shown flashes in offseason practices and hopes to make more of an impact in 2010. "I am just ready, man," he said. "I feel like I was ready last year and I just didn't get the opportunity."

Footballguys view: Iglesias has the skill set that fits the Mike Martz system perfectly. He understands coverage and is a fearless receiver over the middle. The Bears should have a much improved passing game with Martz running the show, and Iglesias will certainly be in the mix. Right now he's competing for playing time behind starters Johnny Knox and Devin Hester with Earl Bennett and Devin Aromashodu.

Bears | Aromashodu shows more confidence    Fri Jun 11, 03:42 PM

CBSSports.com reports Bears WR Devin Aromashodu said the biggest reason he excelled late last season after years on the edge of NFL rosters is simply improved confidence. "In the beginning, I was kind of scared to make a mistake and drop a ball or whatever," Aromashodu said Thursday. Aromashodu proved his worth in the final four games in 2009. Aromashodu was the favorite target of QB Jay Cutler in those games against the Packers, Ravens, Vikings and Lions and had 22 receptions for 282 yards and four touchdowns. Over a 16-game season, that would be 88 receptions for 1,128 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Footballguys view: Aromashodu showed great chemistry last year with Jay Cutler towards the end of the season. However, under the Mike Martz system he may have a hard time fitting in because of his size and skill set. Cutler championed for Aromashodu to get more playing time last year, so we'll have to see if he force feeds him the ball this year. We like the prospects of Devin Hester and Johnny Knox in 2010, but are lukewarm on the idea of adding Aromashodu to our fantasy squads.

Bears | WR coach says Iglesias 'continues to get better'    Fri May 14, 06:50 PM

Larry Mayer, from ChicagoBears.com, reports the Bears are confident in ascending young receivers Devin Hester, Devin Aromashodu, Earl Bennett and Johnny Knox. But that doesn't mean that Juaquin Iglesias won't have a chance to earn some playing time. "He's going to have an opportunity to be right there fighting for one of those spots," WR coach Darryl Drake said. "That's what happens in this league. He continues to get better, and we'll see what happens. He's improved in all areas, just understanding the pro game and the things you have to do as far as how to work, how to run routes and just being consistent day-in and day-out. I think he's improved in all facets of the game--mentally and physically--and that's what you have to do."

Footballguys view: Iglesias was the Bears leading receiver in the preseason last year, but was lost in the shuffle and didn't hit the field in the regular season until the end of the year. He's currently the sixth WR on the depth chart and will have to prove that he can fit into the Mike Martz system if he wants to get onto the field this year.

Bears | Devin Aromashodu could be No. 1 receiver    Fri May 7, 05:49 PM

Neil Hayes, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears WR Devin Aromashodu could be the team's No. 1 receiver because QB Jay Cutler has communicated well with Aromashodu, especially in the game against the Green Bay Packers last season when twice he signaled to Aromashodu and threw back-shoulder passes.

Footballguys view: Hayes is making quite a leap from two successful ad lib plays late in the season when Devin Hester was injured. Aromashodu will figure heavily in the Bears passing attack this season, but WR coach Darryl Drake recently commented about his consistency, so his success is far from assured.

Bears | Darryl Drake likes Devin Aromashodu's ability    Thu May 6, 07:43 PM

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears wide receiver coach Darryl Drake is excited to see what WR Devin Aromashodu can do in 2010. Drake said, "I don't know if he has a ceiling. He's got an awful lot of ability and he and I have talked about it. What he's got to do is be consistent. I have talked to him and I am not afraid to say it, D.A. has been in the league almost five years. It's time."

Footballguys view: Devin Aromashodu doesn't really fit the prototypical Mike Martz receiver, but he proved last year that he was a trusted target of Jay Cutler. It's that chemistry that could propel Aromashodu into a career year in 2010.

Bears | Jay Cutler excited about Devin Aromashodu's potential    Tue Apr 27, 11:50 AM

Vaughn McClure, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler said he is excited about the potential of WR Devin Aromashodu in the team's new offensive scheme. 'We're going to use a lot of receivers this year,'' Cutler said. 'They're learning the system, just like I am. It's a little bit different than what they're used to, a little bit more Z cuts. D.A. has looked good so far. I'm definitely excited for him.'

Footballguys view: Aromashodu is one of the Bears receivers that doesn't exactly fit the type of receiver that Mike Martz wants in his offense. Guys like Devin Hester or Johnny Knox have better quickness and speed to take short throws and turn them into big gains. Aromashodu really flourished last year, and he became one of Cutler's go-to guys. That chemistry could help him overcome the odd fit in the Mike Martz offense.

Bears | Aromashodu could become starter    Tue Dec 29, 05:07 PM

Larry Meyer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears WR Devin Aromashodu could become a starter next season, according to head coach Lovie Smith. 'You have to say yes to that by his play,' Smith said. 'He's been outstanding with what he's done. I think we have a number of guys that have shown us throughout the course (of the season) that they can be the starter and be the guy that can take over a game. He definitely did that last night.'

Footballguys view: Aromashodu has a good size/speed combination and quarterback Jay Cutler has been lobbying for the big wideout to get more playing time all season long.

The Associated Press reports Chicago Bears WR Devin Aromashodu had seven receptions for 150 yards with a touchdown Week 16. His 39-yard touchdown reception in overtime won the game for the Bears.

Footballguys view: Cutler had been lobbying for Aromashodu to play more as far back as training camp, and you can see why. The Bears have four athletic, young WRs, and Greg Olsen for Cutler to throw to, so if the offensive line can get on track, they could have a good thing going in Chicago.

Vaughn McClure, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears WR Devin Aromashodu could be the team's X-factor on offense in Week 14, if WR Devin Hester (calf) does not play in the game. At 6-foot-2, Aromashodu is the tallest receiver on the roster. QB Jay Cutler has lobbied for him to receive more playing time this season, although Aromashodu did drop the only pass thrown his way in Week 13. 'It just takes reps to get (Aromashodu) going, more than anything,' head coach Lovie Smith said. 'Everybody drops the ball every now and then. ... He is a big target, with good speed.
