Chiefs | John Phillips set free by KC    Tue May 28, 05:24 PM

Kansas City Chiefs TE John Phillips was released Tuesday, May 28.

Footballguys view: Well that didn't last long. The veteran blocking tight end was just picked up by the Chiefs last week. Looks like Blake Bell could be the primary backup to Travis Kelce in 2019.

Chiefs | John Phillips finds home in Kansas City    Mon May 20, 04:45 PM

Free-agent TE John Phillips (Cardinals) signed an undisclosed contract with the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday, May 20, according to a source. DB Dontae Johnson was released to make room for him on the roster.

Footballguys view: Phillips is a seasoned veteran who has been around the block. A sixth-round pick out of Virginia in the 2009 NFL draft, this will be the sixth team Phillips has been a part of. He's a big-bodied blocker with a single season career high of 15 catches back in 2011 when he was with the Cowboys. Phillips will block for the Chiefs and is not a fantasy factor whatsoever.

Broncos | John Phillips cut    Sat Nov 5, 03:45 PM

Denver Broncos TE John Phillips was released Saturday, Nov. 5. The team also promoted practice squad CB Taurean Nixon to the active roster.

Broncos | Three TEs in mix for roster spot    Wed Aug 24, 10:11 PM

Denver Broncos TEs Manasseh Garner, Henry Krieger-Coble and John Phillips are competing for a roster spot behind TEs Virgil Green and oft-injured Jeff Heuerman (hamstring).

Footballguys view: Green has really been featured in Broncos camp this year. He may be in line to catch 40 or more passes as the no.1 TE in a Gary Kubiak (TE friendly) offense. Heuerman can't stay healthy and has not been impressive when on the field. We think Phillips makes the team as a blocker and Krieger-Coble is put on the practice squad where he can add some weight.

Chargers | Tight ends to be issue for Chargers?    Tue Feb 2, 02:46 PM

San Diego Chargers TEs Antonio Gates, Ladarius Green, David B. Johnson and John Phillips will all become free agents if they are not re-signed by March 9. Gates is expected to return, however.

Footballguys view: Gates seems like one of those players that is going to retire with the team he started with. The former basketball star was quite a find for the Chargers, and he proved last year that he's still got something left in the tank. The Green experiment is over as he never played up to his potential with the Chargers. Phillips is a nice all-purpose tight end, but he does get banged up a lot. The position is clearly going to be one of emphasis in the offseason.

One obstacle for Phillips, an ankle issue from an injury sustained Saturday, Aug. 4.
