Lions | Kevin Smith could play Thu Nov 10, 03:56 PM
Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan is not ruling out RB Kevin Smith seeing some action in Week 10 versus the Chicago Bears. 'I could see him playing some this game,' Linehan said. 'The expectation is to get to Sunday and see where we are. The other two guys (Maurice Morris and Keiland Williams) are ready to go. There is a scenario there where Kevin can play for us.'
Footballguys view: Smith came to the Lions in great shape, and knows the offense well. We're not expecting him to do much this week, but he could emerge as the season goes on. It's looking more and more like Jahvid Best may be weeks away from returning to the field. |

Lions | Jahvid Best likely out for Week 10 Mon Nov 7, 11:27 PM
Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best (concussion) is unlikely to play in Week 10 against the Chicago Bears, according to a league source. RBs Maurice Morris, Keiland Williams and now Kevin Smith are likely in the mix for touches if Best is indeed out.

Detroit Lions RB Maurice Morris will start in Week 8 with RB Jahvid Best (concussion) likely out for the game.

Lions | Stefan Logan may see work Thu Oct 20, 03:25 PM
Detroit Lions WR Stefan Logan may see some work at tailback in Week 7 against the Detroit Lions with RB Jahvid Best (concussion) suffering from a concussion. RBs Maurice Morris and Keiland Williams will also see increased action. 'We've considered that,' offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said. 'We use him some (there), and did last year. He's definitely going to be in the mix. I don't know how much he'll get, but I can see him getting a few cracks at it.' Logan has three carries for seven yards this year and had 15 for 95 yards last year.

Lions | Maurice Morris likely to start Week 7 Thu Oct 20, 12:23 PM
With Detroit Lions RBs Jahvid Best (concussion) and Jerome Harrison (undisclosed) injured, RB Maurice Morris will likely start the team's Week 7 game.
Footballguys view: Morris is a solid veteran with an all-around game. He's not flashy, but he gets the job done. If you're a Best owner, or in trouble at the RB position because of the bye week, you could do a lot worse than picking up and playing Morris. |

Detroit Lions RB Maurice Morris and Aaron Brown are competing for the No. 3 running back job during training camp.

Lions | Mikel Leshoure to battle for No. 2 role Sat Jul 23, 02:12 PM
Detroit Lions rookie RB Mikel Leshoure is expected to compete during training camp with veteran RB Maurice Morris for the team's No. 2 running back spot behind starting RB Jahvid Best. Leshoure's power between-the-tackles style makes him best suited as a 4-minute back when the Lions are trying to kill the clock.
Footballguys view: Lions head coach Jim Schwartz has made it clear this offseason that the starting role could change from week to week depending on matchup. Best is a dynamic playmaker but wore down last year. LeShoure could be a featured runner in the NFL and may get an opportunity to be the lone back if Best is hurt again. We still like his fantasy prospects as a short-yardage and goalline back who could score 7-9 TDs in 2011. |

Lions | Smith gets knee wrapped Sat Jun 26, 04:54 PM
CBSSports.com notes that it might not amount to anything, but RB Kevin Smith had his knee wrapped by trainers during practice Thursday after participating in seven-on-seven drills again. He has just begun to work in the team drills after rehabbing and doing individual drills all offseason long. He didn't participate in the team's afternoon walk-through.
Footballguys view: Smith's coming back from knee and shoulder problems, and that's one of the reasons why we're not expecting much production from him this year. Even if he's fully healthy the team is going to rely on rookie Jahvid Best to be their feature runner. Best is also a dangerous receiver out of the backfield, so he may not be coming off the field for very many snaps. |
