Ravens | Aaron Mellette, Adrian Hamilton waived    Tue Jun 17, 12:20 PM

The Baltimore Ravens waived WR Aaron Mellette and LB Adrian Hamilton Tuesday, June 17.

Footballguys view: Mellette was considered a potential sleeper in dynasty league with his size and sometimes dominant play at the small school level, but a knee issue kept him from ever getting a foothold with the Ravens.

Ravens | Expecting more from 2013 draft class     Sat Jan 11, 09:23 AM

The Baltimore Ravens are expecting more in 2014 from their 2013 draft class, including LB Arthur Brown, C Ryan Jensen, FB Kyle Juszczyk, WR Aaron Mellette and DT Brandon Williams.

Footballguys view: Brown should continue to develop into a fine pro, but the player to watch here for most fantasy owners is Mellette. He's big, fast and physical. Mellette can be used as a deep target or as a red zone threat. Dynasty owners should be intrigued by his upside.

Ravens | Aaron Mellette placed on IR    Wed Sep 11, 03:41 PM

The Baltimore Ravens placed WR Aaron Mellette (undisclosed) on Injured Reserve Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Footballguys view: Mellette was selected in the seventh-round of the 2013 NFL draft out of Elon. He's got a huge wingspan and knows how to use his large frame to keep defenders away from the ball. He was going to be inactive most weeks anyway, and now the team gets to stash him on Injured Reserve. Mellette will compete for a roster spot next year.

Ravens | Two rookie wideouts could see action    Thu Sep 5, 03:18 AM

The Baltimore Ravens could use rookie WR's Marlon Brown and Aaron Mellette in game action Thursday, Sept. 5, against the Denver Broncos. Both receivers have impressed Ravens coach John Harbaugh. "Marlon and Aaron have played really well, especially for rookies," Harbaugh said. "Those guys - they don't feel like rookies out there. ... I would anticipate that those two guys will be a factor here going forward. How much they'll play early, or how much they'll be a part of the game plan and those kinds of things are really, really hard to say, but they've put themselves in the mix."

Footballguys view: Brown is the player to keep an eye on here. The Ravens are looking for help in the passing game and Brown could be part of the answer. We'll see Torrey Smith as the top target in the passing game with Jacoby Jones and Brandon Stokley behind him.

Ravens | Jim Caldwell praises Deonte Thompson    Sat Jun 1, 11:30 PM

Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell had positive things to say about second-year wide receiver Deonte Thompson, who's expected to be in the thick of the competition for the second and third wideout spots behind Torrey Smith. 'He's a gifted route-runner, and he is getting better,' Caldwell said about Thompson. 'He's young, and he's developing. ... He understands how to sink his hips. He can do a great job of changing direction.'

Footballguys view: Thompson is incredibly fast and some are predicting he has the lead for the team's WR2 job opposite Torrey Smith. We'll see him compete with Jacoby Jones for that job in training camp.

Ravens | Tandon Doss trying to make most of opportunity    Mon May 13, 06:10 PM

Baltimore Ravens WR Tandon Doss is a candidate for a much bigger role in the team's offense after WR Anquan Boldin was traded to the San Francisco 49ers in the offseason. Doss should compete for playing time behind WRs Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones and could become the No. 3 receiver. WRs LaQuan Williams, David Reed, Deonte Thompson and Aaron Mellette are the other receiving options that will compete in offseason workouts and training camp. Baltimore is open to signing a veteran wideout to compete in camp, as well.

Footballguys view: Doss is a deep threat who can fly down the field and track the ball. If Jacoby Jones wins the WR2 starting job opposite Torrey Smith then Doss could be considered the favorite to take over Jones' WR3 role.

Ravens | Two draft choices signed    Thu May 2, 07:06 PM

The Baltimore Ravens have signed sixth-round draft choice OL Ryan Jensen and seventh-round draft choice WR Aaron Mellette to four-year contracts. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Mellette is an interesting small school prospect to keep an eye on. The Elon product impressed at the Senior Bowl with his basketball skill set. He can use his frame to box out defenders and high points passes regularly. He was incredibly productive in college, finishing with 304 career receptions and 44 TDs.

NFL | WRs run 40-yard dash at combine    Sun Feb 24, 08:36 PM

Louisiana Tech WR Quinton Patton posted a time of 4.53 seconds in the 40-yard dash Sunday, Feb. 23, at the NFL Scouting Combine. Elon WR Aaron Mellette and Cincinnati WR Kenbrell Thompkins posted a 4.54-second time, while Kansas State WR Chris Harper checked in at 4.55 seconds. Virginia Tech WR Marcus Davis managed 4.56 seconds, while Clemson's DeAndre Hopkins was clocked at 4.57 seconds. Duke WR Conner Vernon was good for 4.68 seconds, and Missouri WR T.J. Moe rounded out the group with a time of 4.74 seconds.

Footballguys view: Moe's result is poor, but expected. He had the best 3-cone and short shuttle time, which underscores his future role as a Welker/Amendola type slot receiver.
