Patriots | Michael Jenkins cut    Thu Aug 15, 10:26 AM

The New England Patriots released WR Michael Jenkins.

Footballguys view: Jenkins was outplayed in camp by young WRs like Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins and now finds himself out of work. We doubt if he'll get much interest on the open market.

Patriots | Kenbrell Thompkins in competition to start?    Wed Jul 3, 09:02 PM

Field Yates, of ESPNBoston.com, reports that "early indications from the offseason practices are that undrafted rookie Kenbrell Thompkins has found himself in the midst of a competition". Veteran free agent signing Michael Jenkins and second-round pick Aaron Dobson are the other members of the competition, and Yates thinks the winner could take over Brandon Lloyd's role if they can "emerge" from the trio.

Footballguys view: Thompkins is a hard-knocks story, with seven arrests by the time he was eighteen. He took a year off from football and worked his way through the community college ranks to Tennessee, where he left for Oklahoma after head coach Lane Kiffin left for USC. Thompkins eventually ended up at the University of Cincinnati before being signed by the Patriots after this year's draft. He is not a big receiver, but Thompkins has terrific ups, hands, and ball skills, and he has to be considered a threat to at least make the team, if not get playing time right out of the gate.

Patriots | Michael Jenkins showed good chemistry with QB    Fri Jun 28, 06:42 PM

New England Patriots WR Michael Jenkins showed a good chemistry with QB Tom Brady during offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: Jenkins has been a standout player for the Patriots this offseason. The team has plenty of questions surrounding their receiving corps this season. They'll have to replace Wes Welker, Brandon Lloyd, and Aaron Hernandez this year. Jenkins is set to start opposite Danny Amendola, but will have to win the job over rookie Aaron Dobson (Marshall).

Patriots | UDFA WR Thompkins getting first-team reps    Sat Jun 15, 06:24 PM

New England Patriots undrafted free agent WR Kenbrell Thompkins has been getting first-team reps during the team's recent OTAs. Michael Jenkins, Kamar Aiken, and Thompkins have been working as the primary outside receivers.

Footballguys view: Thompkins is an interesting prospect to keep an eye on in super deep dynasty leagues. Our very own Cecil Lammey and Sigmund Bloom liked what they saw from Thompkins during the week of practice for the Texas vs The Nation Game earlier this year. Thompkins has good downfield speed and can adjust to poorly thrown passes. The Patriots have a wide open depth chart at the WR position behind Danny Amendola.

Patriots | Michael Jenkins shadowing Tom Brady    Wed Jun 12, 07:25 PM

New England Patriots WR Michael Jenkins has spent a lot of time this offseason picking the brain of QB Tom Brady or listening in on conversations Brady has had with other receivers.

Footballguys view: Jenkins has been a standout player at Patriots minicamp and could lock in as the starter opposite Danny Amendola if he continues this trend during training camp.

Patriots | Two WRs could compete for one spot    Thu May 2, 02:57 PM

New England Patriots WRs Donald Jones and Michael Jenkins may have to compete for one roster spot during offseason workouts and training camp because of the additions of WRs Aaron Dobson, Josh Boyce and Julian Edelman.

Footballguys view: The roster spots will be cramped for the Patriots. The team needs to find a cure to their deep passing woes. Over the last five seasons, only 11.8% of the Patriots passes to WRs have been more than 20 yards downfield, second lowest rate in NFL.

Patriots | Aaron Dobson projected as starter    Sat Apr 27, 11:47 PM

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson, picked in the second of the 2013 NFL Draft, is projected as the team's starting 'X' receiver. WRs Josh Boyce, Michael Jenkins, Matthew Slater, Andre Holmes and Kamar Aiken are on the depth chart and will be challenging for the starting job during the offseason and training camp.

Footballguys view: Boyce is faster than Dobson, and he is more consistent, but Dobson exhibits spectacular body control on tough catches. Whoever wins the job could be in line for big numbers if Danny Amendola can't stay healthy.

Patriots | Sign Michael Jenkins    Thu Mar 28, 02:08 PM

The New England Patriots signed WR Michael Jenkins (Vikings) Thursday, Mar. 28. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Jenkins gives the team more veteran depth in the WR corps. He's not a lock to make the team and will have to compete for a roster spot in training camp.

Vikings | Michael Jenkins released    Mon Mar 4, 05:00 PM

The Minnesota Vikings have released WR Michael Jenkins.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. The team is looking to overhaul their WR corps behind Percy Harvin. Jenkins could get a job as veteran depth somewhere else but we don't think teams will be falling all over themselves to add him. The Vikings created $3.25MM in salary cap space by releasing Jenkins.

Vikings | Two could be released     Sat Jan 12, 02:31 PM

The Minnesota Vikings may consider releasing WR Michael Jenkins and TE John Carlson this offseason in order to create some salary cap space.

Footballguys view: The Vikings need to seriously upgrade the weapons in their passing game. Carlson didn't do much as a backup TE behind Kyle Rudolph. Jenkins is a savvy veteran but not much of a threat after the catch.

Vikings | Passing game struggles in Week 13    Mon Dec 3, 07:56 PM

Minnesota Vikings WRs Michael Jenkins, Stephen Burton and Devin Aromashodu were targeted a total of five times in the team's Week 13 loss against the Green Bay Packers. WR Jerome Simpson finished with two catches (seven targets) for 25 yards, and WR Jarius Wright had only one catch for 13 yards. 'I don't want to make it sound bad, but never in my life have I been a part of something like this,' Wright said. 'I don't even know how to say it.' TE Kyle Rudolph led the aerial assault with six receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown, and QB Christian Ponder went 12-for-25 (48 percent completion rate) for 119 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Ponder's longest completion went for only 21 yards, and the Vikings' receivers were not able to gain much separation.

Vikings | Christian Ponder efficient in Week 2 loss    Sun Sep 16, 10:17 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder was 27-of-35 passing (77.1 percent) for 245 yards, two touchdowns and a 114.6 passer rating in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts. However, none of the completions were longer than 20 yards. 'I think (the Colts') objective was to take away the deep ball and take away (WR Percy Harvin) and (WR Michael Jenkins) getting downfield,' Ponder said. 'That's why we kept running the ball. They were basically in two-deep all game.'

Footballguys view: Ponder really came on in the fourth quarter, and he gets Jerome Simpson back in week 4 after a tough matchup against the 49ers next week. He can be a solid fantasy backup quarterback going into a softer part of his schedule.

Vikings | Knee no longer issue for Michael Jenkins    Sat Jul 28, 09:49 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Michael Jenkins (knee) had offseason surgery on his knee, but the injury is no longer an issue. 'There was a period there where he was pretty far behind, but he has caught up,' head coach Leslie Frazier said Saturday, July 28.

Footballguys view: With the addition of guys like Jarius Wright and Greg Childs in the 2012 NFL Draft it puts Jenkins on the roster bubble. We'll see how effective he can be coming back from this injury. The team could use Jenkins to fill in for a suspended Jerome Simpson during the first three games of the season.

Vikings | Michael Jenkins could be on roster bubble    Mon Jun 25, 01:46 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Michael Jenkins could be in the roster bubble during training camp because he is scheduled make $2.5 million this season and the team likely will not want to pay him that price if he is a backup.

Footballguys view: Jenkins may be the guy the team is forced to rely on while Jerome Simpson misses the first three games of the season due to suspension. After Simpson returns then Jenkins is unlikely to see the field much.

Vikings | Plan to lean on Michael Jenkins early    Wed Jun 20, 10:02 PM

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave and wide receivers coach George Stewart are working to get a plan in place for when WR Jerome Simpson serves his three-game suspension. WR Michael Jenkins is expected to be a big part of the plan. 'Michael Jenkins started for us last year before he hurt a knee,' Stewart said. 'Veteran guy, able to stretch a defense. He made some plays for us last year.'

Footballguys view: Jenkins may have a bigger role, but the player that should be featured is Percy Harvin. We'll see if the team can involve Harvin more this year, especially when Simpson is out at the beginning of the season.

Jeremy Fowler, from the Pioneer Press, reports Vikings WR Michael Jenkins said the torn meniscus in his knee has fully healed and he will be with the team for the start of Organized Team Activities that start on May 30th.

Footballguys view: Jenkins should be starting opposite Percy Harvin to begin the year as Jerome Simpson serves his three-game suspension. He's not the type of player you want to draft in fantasy leagues even with increased playing time early in the year.

Minnesota Vikings WR Michael Jenkins is considered the team's No. 2 wide receiver even though he is more of a natural No. 3 receiver at this point.

Vikings | Percy Harvin a big part of offense    Fri Nov 11, 02:55 PM

Plus he's tough for the defense to deal with even when he doesn't get the ball,' Musgrave said.
