Steelers | Not expected to bring Casey Hampton back    Sun Jan 27, 01:46 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers are not expected to re-sign impending free-agent DT Casey Hampton this offseason.

Footballguys view: Hampton will always be one of the archetype 3-4 nose tackles, but his best days are behind him. The Steelers defense is in the midst of a lot of turnover at key positions, and the level of play could suffer next season.

Footballguys view: The Steelers usually do a good job of getting out at the right time. Several players throughout their history (Jason Gildon, Levon Kirkland, Joey Porter, Clark Haggans) tried to keep playing after they were done with the Steelers but failed to produce at the same level.

Steelers | Casey Hampton pushes himself    Mon Aug 27, 10:12 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers NT Casey Hampton (knee, elbow) has not played in the preseason, but he went through his most extensive practice Monday, Aug. 27, since coming off the Physically-Unable-to-Perform (PUP) list. 'It felt good to be out there,' said Hampton. 'I didn't practice the whole camp so it felt good to be out there.' Head coach Mike Tomlin said he was uncertain if Hampton would see snaps in the preseason finale. However, Hampton vowed to be ready for the Week 1 game against the Denver Broncos.

Footballguys view: Hampton has been the centerpiece of the team's 3-4 defense for years, but is clearly in the twilight of his career. Steven McLendon is a quality option to start if Hampton can't go.

Steelers | Steve McClendon could start     Mon May 28, 10:15 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers DL Steve McClendon could start at nose tackle in Week 1 with DL Casey Hampton (knee) likely to begin the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list. 'Everybody wants to discard McLendon. Let me tell you this, hold your opinion until the season is over,' defensive line coach John Mitchell said. 'I'm just saying keep your opinion until after the season, (then) you make the decision.'

Footballguys view: McClendon has the experience but we like the talent of fourth-round pick Alameda Ta'Amu better. The veteran could begin the season as the starter while Hampton is out, but Ta'Amu could take over if Hampton is out longer than expected.
