The Dallas Cowboys have interviewed former NFL WR Miles Austin for their vacant wide receivers coaching position, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Good to see the man get a shot to come back "home" to a franchise which loved him for a while. He was never quite able to fulfill his promise consistently, but has plenty of knowledge to share with younger players.

Eagles | Miles Austin not standing out    Fri Aug 28, 08:24 AM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Miles Austin hasn't stood out, or received many chances to stand out, thus in training camp. His role is undetermined as he could start on the outside or he could be inactive.

Footballguys view: This isn't a shock as it has been some time since he played in a manner approaching good. He hasn't cracked 1,000 yards since 2010, the closest being his 943 yards in 2012. Now he's buried behind much more talented players. Right now he's nearly worthless in fantasy and going undrafted right now. If injuries strike he could be a factor but not now and not anytime soon.

Eagles | Miles Austin impressing head coach    Sat Jun 20, 02:49 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Miles Austin has impressed head coach Chip Kelly this offseason. Kelly praised Austin's route-running, separation and his understanding of leverage and coverage. Kelly added that Austin has good range, is intelligent and catches the ball well.

Footballguys view: We're not shocked by this news given Austin's veteran savvy as a player. Austin is likely to make the Eagles final roster as the 4th or 5th receiver on the depth chart.

Eagles | Miles Austin signs with Eagles    Mon Mar 30, 05:27 PM

Free-agent WR Miles Austin (Browns) signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, March 30. The deal is worth $2.3 million with $700,000 available in incentives, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Austin gives the Eagles veteran depth at the wide receiver position. That's something they've looked for since losing Jeremy Maclin (Chiefs) in free agency. Austin will compete for a reserve spot behind starters Jordan Matthews and Riley Cooper. We should see the Eagles draft a wide receiver as well.

Updating an earlier report, free-agent WR Miles Austin (Browns) will likely sign with the Philadelphia Eagles this week if all goes well with his physical, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Austin is not the same player he used to be, but he could give the Eagles valuable veteran depth. They are looking for help at the position since they lost Jeremy Maclin (Chiefs) in free agency.

Browns | Miles Austin not expected back with Browns    Tue Mar 10, 11:38 AM

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent WR Miles Austin is unlikely to re-sign with the team after the Browns signed WR Brian Hartline Monday, March 9. Hartline is basically a younger version of Austin.

Footballguys view: No shocker here. Austin isn't the same player he used to be, and the Browns are moving in a different direction. He may not get that many offers on the open market.

Browns | Miles Austin should play next year    Thu Dec 11, 06:10 PM

Cleveland Browns WR Miles Austin (kidney) can be a free agent after this year, but he's been told he should be able to play next year after lacerating his kidney Nov. 30. Austin isn't allowed to do any physical activity right now, and he'll have a CAT scan in four weeks to see how his cut is healing. His injury is not career-threatening.

Footballguys view: We just can't imagine the market being white-hot for his services. Some team who wants veteran depth may be interested, but dynasty league owners shouldn't be hot and bothered about Austin's future.

The Cleveland Browns are expected to be active in exploring free-agent wide receivers. Their receiving corps doesn't have much size outside of likely suspended WR Josh Gordon. WRs Miles Austin and Nate Burleson have long injury histories.

Browns | Charles Johnson intriguing    Tue Jul 22, 11:22 AM

Cleveland Browns WR Charles X. Johnson is expected to get a chance to rise up the depth chart and challenge the older Miles Austin and Nate Burleson for snaps.

Browns | Miles Austin sitting     Wed Jun 11, 12:15 PM

Cleveland Browns WR Miles Austin (hamstring) is not participating in practice Wednesday, June 11, because of a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: The team has to be cautious here. First, they need all the wide receiver help they can get with a year-long suspension looming for Josh Gordon. Second, Austin has battled several injuries over his pro career. Finally, hamstring injuries can linger if not treated properly. Austin, Andrew Hawkins and Nate Burleson could be the top wide receivers for the Browns this year.

Browns | Miles Austin not practicing    Tue Jun 10, 12:30 PM

Cleveland Browns WR Miles Austin (hamstring) is not participating in practice Tuesday, June 10.

Browns | Taking things slow with Miles Austin    Fri May 23, 11:25 PM

Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine said the team is being cautious with WR Miles Austin this offseason, because he has dealt with hamstring injuries the last few seasons.

Footballguys view: The Browns will have to keep their fingers crossed that Austin can stay healthy this year. He's a talented player, but Austin has been held back by injuries during his pro career. Hamstring injuries can flare up at any time, so the team is going to have to be extra cautious with the veteran wideout. With Josh Gordon facing a one-year suspension, the Browns could really use Austin in 2014.

Browns | Miles Austin got signing bonus    Thu May 22, 03:12 PM

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns WR Miles Austin received a $300,000 signing bonus, which was his only guarantee.

Footballguys view: Austin is already hurt, so that may be all he can make. The Browns are desperate for receivers, but not that desperate. If he cannot get healthy, Austin will not make the team and his fantasy value is fringe at best. No more than a WR5 or depth pick because you just can't rely on him to stay healthy and effective.

Browns | Miles Austin contract update    Wed May 21, 01:35 PM

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns WR Miles Austin is scheduled to receive a base salary of $1.7 million this upcoming season. His contract also included a $300,000 signing bonus.

Footballguys view: That's not quite starter money, but it did show that Austin is not completely dead in the NFL's eyes. He is unlikely to be cut, and should start Week 1 assuming good health and no Josh Gordon availability.

Browns | Miles Austin sits out    Wed May 21, 12:04 PM

Cleveland Browns WR Miles Austin (undisclosed) did not participate in organized team activities Wednesday, May 21.

Footballguys view: Let's hope it's not hamstrings. Austin was a strong fantasy receiver as recently as 2012, and he has a path to starting in Cleveland if Josh Gordon is suspended for the year, and maybe even if he isn't. Still, hamstring woes have been an issue for at least two years, and they could threaten his chance to even make the roster in Cleveland.

Browns | Miles Austin signs    Thu May 15, 03:13 PM

The Cleveland Browns have signed unrestricted free-agent Miles Austin (Cowboys) to an undisclosed deal.

Footballguys view: Austin has a lot of ability but very little ability to stay healthy. The Browns need receivers as Josh Gordon is likely gone for the season. If Austin could manage to stay healthy he could total some nice numbers, if Brian Hoyer/Johnny Manziel can prove to be solid quarterbacks in Kyle Shanahan's offense.

Cowboys | Could have interest in re-signing Miles Austin    Wed May 14, 05:41 PM

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said free-agent WR Miles Austin is absolutely a possibility to return to the team. "We love Miles Austin, we really do," Garrett said. "Obviously, drafting Devin Street (Saturday), we addressed the receiver position a little bit. But Miles has been a really good player for us."

Footballguys view: The fact that Austin is still a free agent shows you what the league thinks of him. In Dallas, he might have a tiny bit of value because of the continuity, but Cleveland and Carolina would also present instant opportunity.

Browns | Could be interested in two WRs    Tue May 13, 08:15 AM

The Cleveland Browns could be interested in free-agent WR Miles Austin (Cowboys) and WR Santonio Holmes (Jets).

Footballguys view: The Browns need all the help they can get. With Josh Gordon likely suspended for a year, the team doesn't have many weapons in the passing game. They'll be interested in any and all wide receivers available on the market.

Cowboys | Miles Austin released    Wed Mar 12, 02:55 PM

The Dallas Cowboys have released WR Miles Austin.

Footballguys view: A really nice guy who just couldn't stay on the field. One good season does not a career make, but one cut does not necessarily end one either. Let's see where he lands and then see if he can improve the conditioning and stay healthy.

Jets | Could be interested in Miles Austin    Tue Mar 11, 01:26 PM

The New York Jets could be interested in WR Miles Austin (Cowboys) if he is released by the Dallas Cowboys.

Footballguys view: Austin would have to likely take a one-year "prove it" deal with any team he signs with. He's not the same player he used to be, but if healthy he can be effective.

Cowboys | Miles Austin could be a June 1 cut    Fri Feb 21, 01:44 AM

Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin may be a June 1 casualty of the salary cap instead of being cut right away. Even though Austin could be cut loose in the next few weeks, the team could save $5.5 million by designating him as a June 1 cut instead.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys are likely to let Austin go after June 1st. The veteran isn't the same player he used to be, but there may be a team willing to give him a one-year "prove it" deal in 2014.

Cowboys | DeMarcus Ware, Miles Austin not coming back?    Mon Feb 17, 12:28 PM

The Dallas Cowboys may not be able to find a way to restructure the contracts of DE DeMarcus Ware and WR Miles Austin this offseason. Cutting Ware would save the Cowboys $13 million, and Austin is due to make $5.5 million in 2014.

Footballguys view: Austin is as good as gone in our opinion. Injuries have held him back over the last couple of years, and he's not the same player he used to be. Some team should be willing to give Austin a one-year "prove it" deal. The Cowboys may try to find a way to restructure Ware in order to keep him around at a reduced price.

Jets | Looking at Emmanuel Sanders, Miles Austin    Mon Feb 17, 02:11 AM

The New York Jets are likely to cut WR Santonio Holmes, which would save the team $8.25 million for 2014. The Jets are thought to have interest in using that money on Pittsburgh Steelers WR Emmanuel Sanders or Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin if either is cut by his respective club.

Footballguys view: Sanders would cost more, but he has more left in the tank. Austin has been held back by injuries over the last couple of years. If he signs with a new team, it will likely be a one-year "prove it" deal.

Cowboys | Miles Austin, Kyle Orton could be cut    Sun Feb 16, 03:20 AM

Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin and QB Kyle Orton could be salary cap casualties. While the team may be able to restructure Orton's deal if he still wants to remain with the team, ESPN.com's Todd Archer believes the writing has been on the wall for a while regarding Austin's departure.

Footballguys view: Orton will be able to find a job as a backup quarterback somewhere. Austin is not the same player he used to be, and injuries may have caught up to him. There should be a team willing to take a chance on him with a one-year "prove it" deal.

Cowboys | Unlikely to offer Miles Austin a pay cut    Fri Feb 7, 07:04 PM

The Dallas Cowboys are not expected to offer WR Miles Austin a pay cut in order to remain with the team. The team is expected to release Austin at some point this offseason.

Footballguys view: It's not really a surprise. Austin's best days are behind him, and he's rarely stayed healthy in recent years. We'll see some team take a chance on Austin with a (likely) one-year "prove it" deal.

Cowboys | Tight against the salary cap    Wed Jan 22, 04:17 PM

The Dallas Cowboys are tight against the Salary Cap, which will likely prevent them from doing anything big in free agency. 'It's still tight,' vice president Stephen Jones said Wednesday afternoon of the salary cap. 'I think we always manage through it, but we're still in a tight situation after coming off the penalties ($10 million for violating league rules on WR Miles Austin contract) and the things like that. We're still up against it.'

Cowboys | Miles Austin could be June 1 cut    Mon Jan 6, 01:45 PM

The Dallas Cowboys could consider releasing WR Miles Austin with a June 1 designation, which would free up $5.5 million in salary cap space this offseason but would add more than $5 million in dead money in 2015.

Footballguys view: We wouldn't be surprised to see this happen. Austin struggled with injuries this season, and he's not the same player he used to be. If healthy, there may be a team willing to take a chance on the veteran receiver if he's cut.

Cowboys | Miles Austin achieves milestone    Mon Dec 30, 06:56 AM

Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin caught two passes for 22 yards to give him 301 career receptions, and he became the 10th Dallas Cowboy to reach 300 career catches. He also passed Doug Cosbie (300) for ninth all-time in franchise history.

Footballguys view: Austin is almost certainly going to be released this offseason unless he takes a huge pay cut. Look for Terrance Williams to begin 2014 as a starter in the Cowboys offense.

Footballguys view: Austin is worth a look in leagues with deep benches. Terrence Williams has cooled off a little and isn't reeling in the targets he's having thrown his way so there could be room for Austin to get hot, though he's a risky start short term, no more than a flex this week.
