New York Jets CB Dimitri Patterson allowed a 45-yard pass play and was flagged for holding in the team's preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts Thursday, Aug. 7. CB Dee Milliner played well, however, but the Jets may be in trouble in the secondary if Patterson proves inefficient. The first-team defense was shaky against the Colts, allowing an 80-yard touchdown drive to backups.

CB Ras-I Dowling played opposite Patterson. 'It's kind of tough -- with the way the rules are, you're not allowed to press, so it's a challenge,' head coach Rex Ryan said. 'But he's done well. I think he's on top of his assignments. He's been pretty impressive.'
| Footballguys view: While the Jets might just be acting cautiously with Milliner, you don't want to see him get hurt again early in offseason activities. It certainly contributed to his poor early play last season. Rex Ryan has already said Patterson is expected to start opposite Milliner, but if Milliner can't get off the trainer's table, Patterson might be starting across from Walls--which would be something of a disaster for the Jets and Milliner. As it stands, none of these players are reliable going into IDP leagues and should only be looked at as depth. |
