Week 8: at Jacksonville Jaguars

Mark and Joe say: Neutral matchup. Lamar Miller threw down 18/61/1 rushing and 2/22/0 receiving at Chicago last week, and had 14/53/1 rushing with 3/40/0 receiving vs. Green Bay two weeks ago. He is thriving as the starting running back for the Dolphins now that Knowshon Moreno is on IR and Miller is the clear lead back. Daniel Thomas is #2, and posted 7/25/0 rushing and 3/25/0 receiving in a subsidiary role at Chicago. The Jaguars' defense is quietly getting more stubborn - they held Cleveland's backs to 30/69/0 on the ground during last week's first victory of the season, and held Tennessee to 24/70/1 rushing two weeks ago. However, the Jaguars' starting lineup took a hit this week when it was learned that starting MLB Paul Posluszny went on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle, ending his season. We'll see how J.T. Thomas can step up to fill Posluszny's shoes starting this weekend. Miller is playing fairly well on a steady basis, while the Jaguars will be juggling their lineup this week - on balance, this looks like a neutral matchup for Miller and company.

2014 Week 7 vs CHI (7 / 25 / 0 rush, 3 / 3 / 25 / 0 rec)

A week after being inactive in favor of Damien Williams, Daniel Thomas out-snapped Williams 24-5, and out-touched him 10-3 in Sunday's win over the Bears. It's clear Williams was simply active over Thomas due to special teams work, and the Dolphins still like Thomas as a change of pace to Lamar Miller. Producing 50 yards on those 10 touches, Thomas does look like a different player than the slow-footed plodder in season's past. He's more of natural catcher of the ball out of the backfield than Miller, but that doesn't necessarily mean he might start taking passing down snaps from the starter. With Lazor and Philbin both wanting to move with tempo, Thomas is likely to mix in with a series every so often to give Miller a breather, but isn't a threat to steal any snaps. In theory, he's the "handcuff" to Miller, but he's probably not worth rostering unless it's a deep league with plenty of bench spots.
