Lions | Dre' Bly, 20 others released    Sat Sep 4, 08:15 PM

The Detroit Lions have waived/injured DE Korey Bosworth (leg), and released CB Dre' Bly, DT Robert Callaway, LB Caleb Campbell, LB Vinny Ciurciu, WR Brian Clark, DT Landon Cohen, RB DeDe Dorsey, G Noah Franklin, C Dan Gerberry, PK Steven Hauschka, CB Jonathan Hefney, OT Jon Jansen, CB Eric King, T Cliff Louis, WR Mike Moore, CB Paul Pratt, CB T.J. Rushing, S Ko Simpson, WR Tim Toone and CB Dante Wesley.

Footballguys view: Mr. Irrelevant Tim Toone was unable to make this team as a return man, but he still has some of the best hair in the game. Adding Alphonso Smith in a trade with the Denver Broncos made veteran Dre Bly expendable.

Lions | Still expected to add another RB    Tue Feb 9, 03:59 PM

Tim Twentyman, of The Detroit News, reports the Detroit Lions likely will sign a free-agent running back or select one in the 2010 NFL Draft even after they signed RB DeDe Dorsey.

Footballguys view: Dorsey is nothing more than special teams help and depth for the RB corps. We've heard the Lions are not happy with Kevin Smith because of his inability to stay healthy and attitude. We fully expect the Lions to select a RB sometime in the middle of the draft, perhaps a versatile player like Joique Bell from Wayne State.

Browns | Dorsey worked out     Thu Dec 3, 11:35 AM

Mary Kay Cabot, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports the Cleveland Browns worked out free-agent RB DeDe Dorsey (Bengals) Tuesday, Dec. 1, but have not signed him at this point.

Footballguys view: The Browns are looking for more depth at the RB position now that Jamal Lewis is done for the season. Dorsey has big play ability, but would not be an upgrade over Jerome Harrison, who is expected to split time with Chris Jennings.

Footballguys view: The Bills are doing their due diligence as they search for a backup running back behind Fred Jackson and Xavier Omon while Marshawn Lynch serves his three-game suspension. The Bills also worked out Gary Russell earlier this week.

Bengals | Scott has inside track to #2 RB job, Dorsey #3, Leonard on bubble    Fri Aug 28, 07:45 PM

Joe Reedy, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports that RB Bernard Scott "looks to be the second back" and DeDe Dorsey took the lead for the #3 RB job after the game vs. the St. Louis Rams on Thursday, August 27. Reedy also reports that Brian Leonard chances of making of the team took a hit after a poor performance.

Footballguys view: Scott is a dynamic talent who could easily occupy a Leon Washington/Darren Sproles type role - more of a complement to Cedric Benson than a backup.

Bengals | Watson the backup to Benson - for now    Tue Jul 28, 01:38 PM

Geoff Hobson, from Bengals.com, reports running back Kenny Watson gets the early nod in the derby to back up starter Cedric Benson and the rookies get the outside poles with Bernard Scott and Nebraska free agent Marlon Lucky listed behind Brian Leonard, DeDe Dorsey, and James Johnson.

Footballguys view: Watson may be the main backup for now, but it shouldn't take long for rookie Bernard Scott to improve his position on the depth chart.

Bengals | Crowded at RB behind Benson    Fri Jun 19, 08:28 PM

James Walker, from ESPN.com, notes that currently there is a crowded field behind starter Cedric Benson, who is one of the few locks at the position to make the team. After Benson, tailbacks such as James Johnson, DeDe Dorsey, Kenny Watson and Bernard Scott all will be vying for carries and roster spots this season. In addition, Brian Leonard is versatile enough to split time at fullback and tailback to take reps away from the aforementioned group, making for an even tighter competition.

Footballguys view: Watson, Dorsey, and Leonard have not shown the ability to stay healthy during their time in the NFL. James Johnson and rookie Bernard Scott are unproven, but we like the rookie most in this competition behind Cedric Benson. Walker also notes in the article that the Bengals could be looking for a good receiving back to add another dimension to their offense. Scott is a perfect fit for that role as well. Everybody in the scouting community loves what they see from Scott on the field. It's the off field behavior - 4 different colleges, 5 arrests - that caused him to fall to the 6th round. He has good instincts for running the football and can use his quickness effectively on screen passes and draw plays.
