Week 11: at Los Angeles Rams

All RB vs LAR

FBG says: Bad matchup. Since head coach and play-caller Matt Nagy publicly proclaimed his intentions to run the football more, rookie David Montgomery's role in the Chicago Bears' offense has grown immensely. Across the 3 games since, Montgomery has tallied 83-percent of all running back carries in the team's offense. Averaging over 19 carries per game in that span, Montgomery has struggled to convert his newfound rushing volume into significant rushing production. On the season, the rookie running back has registered only 2 games of more than 3.53 yards per carry. Montgomery's struggles on the ground are primarily a product of poor offensive line play and stacked defensive fronts. The Chicago Bears' offensive line has been one of the weakest in the NFL this season, and opposing defenses are showing their passing attack very little respect. Montgomery has faced a loaded defensive front with at least eight players in the box on over one-quarter of his carries this season, and this will likely continue in week 11 against the Los Angeles Rams. The Los Angeles Rams' loaded defensive front has been one of the league's premier run-stopping forces through the first nine games of the 2019 season. The Rams have only allowed 3.3 yards per carry thus far this season, the second-best mark in the NFL. Along the defensive line, Aaron Donald and Michael Brockers are two of the league's best disruptors against the run. At linebacker, Corey Littleton has stepped up in 2019 as one of the surest tacklers in the league. He ranks 20th in the NFL with 47 total tackles through 9 games, while only missing 1 tackle during that span. The secondary provides ample support against the run, with Eric Weddle and Jalen Ramsey both grading as top-end run stoppers in the defensive backfield. The Rams have only allowed 2 100-yard rushers this season: MVP candidate Christian McCaffrey in week 1, and Chris Carson in a 27-carry Thursday night game in week 5. David Montgomery will certainly have his work cut out for him on Sunday night in his quest to add another name to that list. The Rams' superior defensive front-seven should dominate in the trenches against the Bears' weak offensive line, leaving Montgomery with very little room to run in week 11.
