Jaguars | Alexander lining up at free safety, final position TBD Thu Jul 30, 07:08 PM
Vic Ketchman, of Jaguars.com, reports that head coach Jack Del Rio said new acquisition S Gerald Alexander will line up at free safety on "day one", but "we'll find out" whether he is destined to play free or strong safety. Del Rio also said free agent acquisition S Sean Considine's impact would be "favorable".
Footballguys view: Reggie Nelson struggled badly at times last year, and it sounds like Del Rio is opening the door to Alexander pushing him at free safety. |

Jaguars | Alexander says first hit will be interesting Tue Jul 7, 07:22 PM
Vic Ketchman, of Jaguars.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars FS Gerald Alexander said his first hit this season will be interesting because he missed a majority of last season with a neck injury. 'It's going to be interesting. I'm just going to do it and see what happens. Physically it's like nothing has happened. As far as the hitting, it's just human nature not to go full speed. Once that first hit happens, I'll be ready to go,' Alexander said.
Footballguys view: When coming back from an injury (especially a neck injury) the first hit always brings a little apprehension along with it. Once a player gets over the mental part of delivering a hit and getting up okay, then it's much easier to go on the field and perform up to personal standards. |

Footballguys view: Alexander said he is fully healthy after missing a majority of the 2008 season after fracturing his vertebrae. |

Lions | Alexander probably would have been cut Wed Jul 1, 01:54 AM
Tom Kowalski, of Mlive.com, reports S Gerald Alexander, who was just traded from the Detroit Lions to the Jacksonville Jaguars, was unlikely to make the Lions' roster. If he did, he would not have seen much playing time. The coaching staff apparently wasn't impressed with him, as they felt he lacked quickness and explosion to play the position.
Footballguys view: Yet another good move in the post-Millen era. Don't be surprised if the Lions are a competitive team this year. |

NFL | Alexander-Northcutt deal finalized Tue Jun 30, 07:05 PM
Adam Caplan, of Scout.com, reports that the deal sending S Gerald Alexander to the Jacksonville Jaguars and WR Dennis Northcutt to the Detroit Lions has been finalized.
Footballguys view: Alexander started as a rookie, but he became expendable after the Lions drafted Louis Delmas with the first pick of the second round. He could have IDP value if he can beat out Sean Considine to start at strong safety. Considine wasn't that good during his time with the Eagles, so it's not a stretch to see Alexander winning that job. Northcutt will likely compete with Ronald Curry to be the Lions slot receiver, but he could break into the starting lineup if Bryant Johnson's injury woes continue. Northcutt found the fountain of youth in December last year, and if he plays that way again this year, he could be marginally relevant in start 3 WR PPR leagues. |

Jaguars | Team acquires G. Alexander Fri Jun 26, 08:33 PM
John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the Detroit Lions have traded S Gerald Alexander to the Jacksonville Jaguars for WR Dennis Northcutt, according to multiple sources. The trade was agreed upon Friday, June 26, and is expected to be finalized next week.
Footballguys view: Alexander should compete with Sean Considine to start at strong safety for the Jags, and judging by how each has played with their former teams, we like Alexander to win the job. The Boise State product had some high tackle games in when he got a chance to start as a rookie in 2008, so he's a good deep sleeper to watch in IDP leagues. |
