Week 7: vs Carolina Panthers
All RB vs CAR
FBG says: Neutral matchup. The Bears racked up a season-high 231 rushing yards last week from a whopping 54 carries on their way to an upset of the Ravens. Jordan Howard has continued the momentum after a tough start to the season as he rushed for a career-high 167 yards last week against a stout Ravens defense. It took Howard 36 carries and a 53-yard big play to amass those numbers, but he still managed his second 100+ yard game of the season. The volume allotted to Howard has been very encouraging over these past four games, as he now has 23, 18, 19, and 36 carries over that span. Tarik Cohen has been ineffective on the ground for most of this season as he has been the Bears' key passing-down back. Cohen is still very much involved in the offense, but Howard has racked up 96 carries to Cohen's 38 in their last four games.
The Panthers run defense took a slight step back last week but still looked solid, allowing a total of 101 rushing yards to the Eagles. Defensive lineman Star Lotulelei had a tough game as he was bottled up, for the most part, failing to make even a single run stop. Kawann Short continued his dominance this season though with 1.5 tackles for loss, as he is the rock of that defensive interior. The big news for the Panthers was the potential concussion of linebacker Luke Kuechly, who went down late in the game with concussion-like symptoms. Kuechly has struggled with concussions in his career and has not yet been removed from the protocol early this week. He is a big part of this Panthers run defense, so without Kuechly, the Bears matchup can be bumped up.
