Week 14: vs San Diego Chargers

All WR vs SD

Mark and Joe say: Good matchup. Ted Ginn Jr. didn't have any touchdowns until Week 11 this season, but has now scored in his last three games. Ginn is on a hot streak with at least 40 yards receiving in seven straight games - he has snagged 12/241/3 out of 20 targets over the last three weeks, compared to 7/127/1 out of 19 targets for Kelvin Benjamin. Benjamin has scored only once since Week Four and failed to catch more than three passes in any of his last three games. Greg Olsen has zero receiving TDs over the last four games, and has a high-water mark of 45 yards receiving during that time span. Basically, except for Ginn, Cam Newton is having trouble finding any of his available receivers. Last week during the 7-40 debacle in Seattle, Newton threw 14/32 for 182 yards passing, one TD and zero interceptions with zero sacks taken (Ginn led the team with six targets for 5/80/1). Devin Funchess (four targets for 2/44/0 receiving) and Olsen (seven for 3/30/0) were the other significant targets last week. San Diego coughed up 20/30 for 268 net yards, one TD and one interception to Jameis Winston (with one sack for -12 yards) last weekend - two games ago they allowed 22/37 for 239 net yards passing, zero TDs and three interceptions thrown, with one sack taken for -7 yards to Brock Osweiler. From Week 10 to Week 13 of the 2016 season (over the last four weeks, but includes 10 teams on bye during that time span - each team has at least three games played in the last four weeks), San Diego has averaged 18.8 fantasy points allowed per game to opposing quarterbacks (14th-least in the NFL); and 18.3 fantasy points per game allowed to wide receivers (eighth-least); with 8.3 fantasy points given up per game to tight ends (12th-most). To date, the Chargers are 27th in the NFL averaging 271.0 net passing yards allowed per game, with 17 passing scores given up vs. 15 interceptions generated (first in the NFL) and 21 sacks to their credit (tied for 26th in the NFL). This is a so-so pass defense on balance. This looks like a pretty good matchup for Carolina.
