Broncos | Would like to re-sign two DLs    Wed Jul 20, 03:31 PM

The Denver Broncos are hoping that they will be able to re-sign free-agent DLs Jamal Williams and Justin Bannan once the lockout is over. The team released both players before the lockout started.

Footballguys view: Williams price just went up with the Kris Jenkins retirement news, and Bannan is an underrated player who could find a nice market for his services with the number of teams in the market for 3-4 ends. If the team makes a run at DeAngelo Williams, signing both defensive linemen might be difficult.

Broncos | Could look to re-sign two cut DTs    Sun May 15, 02:58 PM

The Denver Broncos could be interested in re-signing free-agent DTs Jamal Williams and Justin Bannan once the free agency period begins. The Broncos released both players prior to the start of the lockout.

Footballguys view: We've heard that Williams wants to come back to Denver. He's not the same player he used to be, but can plug up the middle and should work well in a rotation. Bannan may not decide to come back, and could find a 3-4 team that would fit his skill set better.

Broncos | Two released    Thu Mar 3, 05:25 PM

The Denver Broncos released DLs Jamal Williams and Justin Bannan Thursday, March 3, according to The Denver Post's Mike Klis.

Footballguys view: Williams getting released isn't a surprise because he's a NT in a 3-4 defense and Denver is switching back to a 4-3 under new head coach John Fox. Releasing Bannan does surprise. He wasn't making that much money, and could work inside as a DT in the 4-3 defense. There's a chance the Broncos could bring Bannan back at a reduced rate, but he's likely moving on.

Broncos | Williams and Bannan slated to play DT    Thu Feb 24, 12:30 PM

Cecil Lammey, NFL Insider for FRSN and senior writer at Footballguys.com, reports from the Scouting Combine that new Broncos head coach John Fox is going to move both NT Jamal Williams and DE Justin Bannan to DTs in the Broncos new 4-3 defensive scheme.

Footballguys view: Williams is not the same player he used to be, but could still be effective in a rotation on the defensive line. Bannan was the lone bright spot on the D-Line last year and should have no problem getting used to his new position.

Broncos | GM Xanders comments on new signees    Wed Mar 10, 12:05 AM

Frank Schwab, from the Colorado Springs Gazette, reports the Broncos have been releasing comments with each of their free-agent signings (a nice touch - in the old regime there were periods where we would go weeks without comment because Mike Shanahan had nothing to say and therefore, nobody else could say anything either).

Footballguys view: Broncos fans should be happy with what the Broncos have done over the last couple of days. Their defense wore down as the season went on, and they are making moves to prevent that from happening in 2010.

Chargers | J. Williams released    Thu Mar 4, 04:12 PM

Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports the San Diego Chargers have released DT Jamal Williams, according to sources.

Footballguys view: This makes their first-round pick a bit more interesting. With such a need at running back, many mock drafts have the Chargers selecting a running back with their first pick. Now, they could look at add a DT like Penn State's Jared Odrick with the 28th pick overall.

Chargers | J. Williams might be on the roster bubble    Thu Feb 25, 06:11 PM

Kevin Acee, from the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports Jamal Williams might be too expensive ($6 million) to bring back, and even if he returns for 2010, he is almost certainly finished as a Charger after that. And as good as Ogemdi Nwagbuo played in his first season before getting injured, there is still much to see before saying he could be a full-time, long-term starter.

Footballguys view: This could indicate the Chargers would be in the market for a Nose Tackle in the 2010 NFL Draft. Players like Dan Williams (Tennessee), Jared Odrick (Penn State) and Brian Price (UCLA) might be available when the Chargers pick with the 28th pick in the first-round. Terrence Cody aka "Mount Cody" (Alabama) should be on the board as well, but his current draft stock has a second-round rating.

Chargers | J. Williams placed on IR    Sat Sep 19, 04:24 PM

The San Diego Chargers have announced they have placed DL Jamal Williams (triceps) on Injured Reserve, ending his 2009 season.

Footballguys view: This is a massive blow to the Chargers defense. The nose tackle is the keystone to the 3-4 defense, and Williams is right up there with Casey Hampton and Kris Jenkins as one of the best in the business. Ogemdi Nwagbuo will fill in for Williams, and maybe rookie Vaughn Martin can handle some snaps there, but there's no real replacement for Williams on the roster.

Chargers | Williams says he feels good    Fri Jul 3, 06:04 PM

Casey Pearce, of Chargers.com, reports San Diego Chargers DT Jamal Williams said he feels as good as he has in years heading into training camp. 'I'll always tell people that I feel good, but right now, I'm not feeling the aches and pains or bumps and bruises,' Williams said. 'I'm feeling great, feeling fantastic. I'm just ready to rock and roll and get this thing started.'

Footballguys view: The three-time Pro Bowler says Head Athletic Trainer James Collins and his staff are largely responsible for the way he feels. Williams is now the longest-tenured defensive lineman in Charger's history. Williams says he's been able to get through so many seasons fighting injuries yet playing at a high level because he knows how to deal with pain and work through it.
