Although Prater had some big fourth quarter and overtime kicks in 2011, he was not a top fantasy kicker since he saw very limited opportunities in the first three quarters of games. That changed significantly the past two years when he saw an increase in kicking attempts throughout the games, especially on extra points. His big leg was also put to use last year, as he made 6 of 7 from 50+ yard field goals. Prater will miss the first four games this year, due to an alcohol-related suspension. Prater will again work with Aaron Brewer at long snapper and Britton Colquitt at punter/holder, although the latter could conceivably be challenged in camp by undrafted rookie Steven Clark (Auburn). After dropping to 26th in kicker scoring opportunities in 2010 and 28th in 2011, the Broncos jumped back into the top ten ranking 6th in 2012 and 3rd in 2013. (August 24)

Latest News

Broncos | Matt Prater unlikely to appeal (Sun Aug 24, 12:03 PM) - Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos PK Matt Prater likely will not appeal his four-game suspension, because his attorney and the NFL agreed to the length. Prater was initially facing a one-year suspension.

Our View: Losing Prater means rookie kicker Mitch Ewald will be the top guy for the Broncos. The Broncos have a bye in Week 4, so Prater can come back right before their Week 6 game against the Jets.

Broncos | Matt Prater to be suspended (Sun Aug 24, 09:04 AM) - Denver Broncos PK Matt Prater will be suspended the first four games of the 2014 season for a violation of the league's substance abuse policy.

Our View: Losing Prater is going to be a minor impact for the Broncos on the field. Rookie Mitch Ewald will take over as the top kicker for the team while Prater is out.
