Colts | Brian Tyms stands out in spring    Mon Jun 13, 11:18 PM

Indianapolis Colts WR Brian Tyms stood out during organized team activities (OTAs), as he is locked in a battle for one of the two receiver spots behind WRs T.Y. Hilton, Donte Moncrief and Phillip Dorsett. Beat writer Zak Keefer noted Tyms emerged from the pack of contenders for the No. 4 job, and he boasts size at 6-foot-3 that the team lacks among their top three receivers. The team expects to keep as many as six receivers.

Footballguys view: The Colts are the fifth team Tyms has been on since coming into the league with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Florida A&M in 2012. We'd be surprised if now is the time he makes an impact as a pro. There's not much competition behind the "big 3" at WR for the Colts, so perhaps Tyms is able to make the 53-man roster and see some snaps. Even if that's the case, Tyms won't be a fantasy factor unless there's a rash of injuries above him on the depth chart.

Colts | Two receivers signed    Thu Apr 7, 05:32 PM

Free-agent WRs Josh Boyce (Patriots) and Brian Tyms (Patriots) both signed undisclosed deals with the Indianapolis Colts Thursday, April 7. OG Ben Heenan was waived in a corresponding move.

Footballguys view: Mostly role players, both are worth keeping an eye on because with the Patriots you never know who will pop and produce.

Patriots | Brian Tyms put on IR    Tue Aug 25, 05:40 PM

New England Patriots WR Brian Tyms (foot) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Footballguys view: Not a huge deal as Tyms wasn't fantasy relevant anyway. Still, between this and mystery injuries to Julian Edelman and Brandon LaFell, it's no wonder Reggie Wayne was brought into the fold.

Patriots | Brian Tyms could be done    Fri Aug 21, 10:37 AM

New England Patriots WR Brian Tyms (foot) could be out for the season after suffering a foot injury.

Footballguys view: Tyms was Aaron Dobson's biggest obstacle to snaps as a deep ball specialist. This helps Dobson's case to make the team and have a role on game day. It's worth watching in deep dynasty leagues.

Patriots | Two players reinstated    Wed Oct 1, 06:38 AM

The New England Patriots reinstated CB Brandon Browner and WR Brian Tyms from the suspended list Tuesday, Sept. 30. They each have a roster exemption that expires Monday, Oct. 6.

Footballguys view: Getting Browner back can help this secondary. The Patriots struggled to stop the Chiefs on Monday Night Football in Week 4. Darrelle Revis failed to shut down Dwayne Bowe...it's been that bad for the Pats. We'll see if Browner can make a big impact.

Patriots | Brian Tyms suspended for four games    Fri Aug 8, 08:24 PM

New England Patriots WR Brian Tyms was suspended for four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy back in May, when he was a member of the Cleveland Browns. He tested positive for taking an Adderall pill, and failed the test prior to obtaining a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) from league doctors.

Patriots | Sign Brian Tyms    Sun Jul 27, 10:05 AM

The New England Patriots signed WR Brian Tyms (Browns) Sunday, July 27. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Undrafted out of Florida A&M in 2012, Tyms is on his fourth team. He's a camp body for the Patriots with little shot of making the final roster. Perhaps the team could sign him on the practice squad if he impresses, but even that seems doubtful.

Dolphins | Make roster moves    Sat Aug 31, 10:21 PM

The Miami Dolphins have released LB Austin Spitler, DL Kheeston Randall, WR Chad Bumphis, WR Brian Tyms, WR Keenan Davis, WR Marvin McNutt, DE Antwan Applewhite, CB De'Andre Presley, RB Jonas Gray, CB Julian Posey, S Keelan Johnson, S Jordan Kovacs, LB Lee Robinson, OG Chris Barker, C Sam Brenner, DE Tristan Okpalugo, OT Andrew McDonald, DT A.J. Francis and DT Tracy Robertson. The team also injured waived QB Aaron Corp (undisclosed) and OT Jeff Adams (undisclosed).

Footballguys view: McNutt was the player to note here offensively. He's big and has a large wingspan but has failed to gain much separation on his routes as a pro.

Dolphins | Several new candidates for bigger roles    Sun Jul 28, 10:50 PM

The Miami Dolphins learned Sunday, July 28, that WR Armon Binns (knee) is out for the season, and WR Rishard Matthews (undisclosed) will be sidelined several weeks with an undisclosed ailment. The two were considered the favorites for the No. 4 and 5 receiver jobs. With those two on the shelf, WRs Chad Bumphis, Jasper Collins, Jeff Fuller, Marvin McNutt, Andrell Smith, Kenny Stafford and Brian Tyms all find themselves competing for a bigger piece of the pie in training camp and the preseason. Matthews could still end up being the team's No. 4 receiver unless he is forced to start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

Footballguys view: Tight end Dustin Keller is really the team's #3A wide receiver, along with Brandon Gibson. After that, the team's depth is unproven and depleted.

Dolphins | Rishard Matthews favorite for No. 5 WR job    Sun Jul 14, 01:00 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Rishard Matthews likely will enter training camp as the favorite for the No. 5 wide receiver job but could be pushed by WRs Brian Tyms, Jeff Fuller and Marvin McNutt for the roster spot.

Footballguys view: Fuller has chemistry with QB Ryan Tannehill from their days together in college at Texas A&M. McNutt is a physical WR who can wrestle away contested catches but he's not overly quick or fast. Matthews has deceptive downfield speed and earned praise earlier this year for his standout play during OTAs.

Dolphins | Several in mix for receiver spots    Sun Apr 28, 09:37 PM

Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland said Sunday, April 28, that he is comfortable with what the team has at the receiver position. The team sees upside in WRs Armon Binns and Rishard Matthews, who will compete with former practice squad members Jeff Fuller and Brian Tyms for the No. 4 and 5 receiver jobs. With the team expected to use two tight-end sets, the fourth receiver might play less this year.

Footballguys view: Fuller has chemistry with QB Ryan Tannehill from their playing days together in college at Texas A&M. He's a player to watch out for in deep dynasty leagues.

Dolphins | Several wide receivers to compete for a few spots    Sun Mar 17, 12:41 PM

Miami Dolphins WRs Davone Bess, Armon Binns, Rishard Matthews, Brian Tyms and Jeff Fuller are expected to compete for two or three roster spots. The team could also add a wide receiver during the 2013 NFL Draft to join the competition.

Footballguys view: We'd expect them to add a WR in this draft because it's so deep and talent rich at that position. Adding a guy like Ryan Swope (Texas A&M) in the second- or third-round could make sense.

Dolphins | Six signed to futures contracts     Sun Jan 6, 03:48 PM

The Miami Dolphins have signed WR Jeff Fuller, WR Brian Tyms, OT Jeff Adams, OT Andrew McDonald, DT Chas Alecxih and CB De'Andre Presley to futures contracts. They signed two-year deals but the financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: In deep dynasty leagues we like Fuller. He at Texas A&M with QB Ryan Tannehill and was one of his favorite targets. Fuller is a big target with a large wingspan and already established chemistry with the QB.

49ers | Agree to terms with 17 UDFAs    Tue May 1, 10:06 PM

The San Francisco 49ers agreed to terms with undrafted college rookie DL Kourtnei Brown, DL Patrick Butrym, TE Garrett Celek, RB DaJuan Cofield, RB Jewel Hampton, LB Joe Holland, DL Tony Jerod-Eddie, DL Matthew Masifilo, CB Anthony Mosley, OL Kevin Murphy, OL Al Netter, WR Chris Owusu, WR Nathan Palmer, DB Deante' Purvis, PK Giorgio Tavecchio, S Michael Thomas and WR Brian Tyms.

Footballguys view: We'll take note of the RB Hampton here. He began his college career at Iowa and is an instinctive RB with a nice blend of size/speed and moves in the open field. He falls to the PFA ranks because of injury concerns but could be very productive as a full time RB if he stays healthy and gets an opportunity.

Tyms weighed in at 200 pounds and 6-foot-2, in addition to posting times of 4.40 seconds in the 40-yard dash and 3.93 seconds in the 20-yard shuttle. He also recorded a 38-inch vertical and 19 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.
