Ravens | Tight end Smith a 'game time decision'    Sat Sep 12, 02:15 PM

Edward Lee, from the Baltimore Sun, reports L.J. Smith did not practice for the third consecutive day because of a pulled left hamstring, and it appears increasingly unlikely that the tight end will be able to play in the season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium. Smith, who injured the hamstring in the Ravens' second preseason game against the New York Jets on Aug. 24, is listed as doubtful on the club's injury report. "If he's ready to go Sunday, he will, and if he's not, he won't," coach John Harbaugh said after practice Friday. "He'll be a game-day decision."

Footballguys view: What's this? L.J. Smith is doubtful for a game? All sarcasm aside, Smith was known to miss time due to injury in Philadelphia, and now that he's in Baltimore it's no different. He'll likely be scratched on Sunday as the team tries to get him healthy from this latest injury.

Ravens | Smith absent from practice Monday    Mon Aug 3, 11:40 AM

Jason La Canfora, of NFL.com, reports Baltimore Ravens TE L.J. Smith (hamstring) is not participating in the team's morning practice Monday, Aug. 3.

Footballguys view: Smith needs to heed the adage, "You can't make the club in the tub". His injury problems and reports from crack Ravens beat writer Aaron Wilson that Todd Heap looks healthy are making Heap look like a nice TE2 in PPR leagues, and what the heck TE1 if you decide to be the last one to take a TE in your 12 or 14 team league.

Ravens | L. Smith misses practice Sunday    Sun Aug 2, 05:06 PM

CBSSports.com reports Baltimore Ravens TE L.J. Smith (hamstring) missed the team's practice Sunday, Aug. 2, because of an injured hamstring.

Footballguys view: Another year, and more injury woes for L.J. Smith. The Ravens have two very good tight ends in Smith and Todd Heap, but both have constant injury concerns. Smith's injury will give rookie Davon Drew more opportunity in practice.

Ravens | L. Smith misses morning practice Wednesday    Wed Jul 29, 05:04 PM

Edward Lee, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens TE L.J. Smith (hamstring) did not participate in morning practice Wednesday, July 29, because of a minor hamstring injury. Smith said the injury is not considered serious.

Footballguys view: He is not sure if he will be able to take part in the first full-team practice Friday, July 31. L.J. Smith has been injury prone for a few years now so this isn't the greatest news before August. Hopefully he'll be able to bounce back quickly because the team will be relying on he and Todd Heap more than ever because of the lack of depth at the WR position.

Ravens | Offense should open up some this year    Mon Jun 29, 08:09 PM

Gerry Dulac, Vinnie Iyer & Mike Preston, of Sporting News, report that Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron should open up the offense some this season for QB Joe Flacco, even though they will remain a run-first team.

Footballguys view: The passing offense was focused on passes to the sidelines and deep last year to minimize the chances of an interception if Flacco made an error. The main beneficiaries of this change should be the tight ends - Todd Heap and LJ Smith - as Flacco should be trusted more to work the middle of the field in his second season.
