Week 12: at Seattle Seahawks
Mark and Joe say: Tough matchup. This is the first of two critical divisional showdowns between these playoff-contenders - Arizona has the best record in the NFL but is down to their backup quarterback after losing Carson Palmer to a torn ACL in his knee. Andre Ellington had a rough go of it vs. Detroit last week, averaging 2.2 yards per carry against the Lions. When the game was all said and done, he had compiled 19/42/0 rushing and 4/24/0 receiving. Head Coach Bruce Arians stated on Monday, November 17 'He's gutting it up on Sundays, but he needs to perform, too. Right now, he's as healthy as he's been and we need more out of him.' Ellington is playing through a foot injury and that may be affecting his production (but he also had two tough defensive fronts in a row the last two games).
Seattle got trampled in Kansas City last Sunday, allowing 30/190/3 rushing to Jamaal Charles and company (20/159/2 to Charles, for an eight yards per carry average). Two games back the Giants managed 17/54/1 rushing, with 13/33/1 coming from lead back Andre Williams. As you can see, the Seahawks' defensive front has been up and down in the past couple of games - they are currently ranked seventh in the NFL averaging 90.8 rushing yards allowed per game, with seven rushing scores surrendered to date. Usually, this defense is stout in the rushing phase.
Two under-performing units clash in this contest - we think the Cardinals have a tough matchup on their hands for this NFC West clash.
