NFL | DeMarco Murray set to announce retirement    Fri Jul 13, 02:06 PM

Free-agent RB DeMarco Murray (Titans) is expected to announce his retirement from the NFL on Friday, July 13.

Footballguys view: Murray overcame a catastrophic injury in college at Oklahoma and reinvented himself. He defied expectations at multiple stops with an intensity only matched by the likes of Frank Gore and Marshawn Lynch. At his best, he was one of the top 3-5 backs in the league. The veteran back camp injury signing list will get one shorter.

NFL | DeMarco Murray looking to sign    Mon Jul 9, 01:46 PM

Free-agent RB DeMarco Murray (Titans) said he hopes to sign with a team before the start of training camp and has talked with four or five teams this offseason. He said the offseason has allowed him to recover from knee and hamstring injuries he dealt with last season.

Footballguys view: Murray still has the ability to perform -- he's just a season removed from a 1200 yard season in 2016. However, where he lands is going to be a huge factor in his production. His drop to a 3.6 yards per carry average is a concern, but Murray has seen that stat roll up and down over the last four seasons, so it's something that could improve again. Early draft participants seem to feel he still is worth a roll of the dice, as he is going as the 62nd back on average right now.

Saints | DeMarco Murray says no to NO    Wed Jun 13, 01:10 PM

Free-agent RB DeMarco Murray (Titans) declined an invitation to work out for the New Orleans Saints, according to a source. Murray preferred not to work out with a large group of running backs.

Footballguys view: Murray isn't getting much interest on the open market, and he didn't want to be part of the group of RBs the Saints brought into minicamp including guys like Terrance West and Jamaal Charles. He may have to wait for injuries to hit in training camp before latching on with a new team.

Dolphins | DeMarco Murray leaves without deal    Mon Mar 19, 05:06 PM

Free-agent RB DeMarco Murray (Titans) left his visit with the Miami Dolphins without an agreement Monday, March 19.

Dolphins | DeMarco Murray to visit Miami    Sat Mar 17, 06:26 PM

Free-agent RB DeMarco Murray (Titans) will visit with the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, March 18.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins have interest in adding a power element to their backfield. Kenyon Drake is their lead back but he's not a banger between the tackles. That could be Murray's role if the Dolphins sign him.

Dolphins | Miami interested in DeMarco Murray    Sat Mar 17, 12:23 PM

Free-agent RB DeMarco Murray (Titans) has received some interest from the Miami Dolphins, but it is not known if a visit has been scheduled, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Murray is not the same player he used to be, but he could provide a team with a power option in the backfield. If added by the Dolphins, Murray would work in a RBBC with Kenyan Drake.

Seahawks | DeMarco Murray visiting Seattle    Wed Mar 14, 12:15 PM

Free-agent RB DeMarco Murray (Titans) is visiting the Seattle Seahawks Wednesday, March 14.

Footballguys view: The Seahawks need help in the backfield, but Murray would make an interesting addition. Averaging just 3.6 yards per carry in 2017, Murray does not look like the back he used to be.

Seahawks | DeMarco Murray could visit Seattle    Mon Mar 12, 08:43 PM

Free-agent RB DeMarco Murray (Titans) will reportedly visit the Seattle Seahawks this week, assuming the Detroit Lions don't sign him during his visit Tuesday, March 13.

Footballguys view: The Seahawks could certainly use help at the position. Murray averaged only 3.6 yards per carry last year and may not be the best answer for Seattle with their need...especially with a great draft class full of talented running backs in the 2018 NFL draft.

Titans | DeMarco Murray released    Thu Mar 8, 05:11 PM

Lions | DeMarco Murray an option for DET?    Thu Feb 15, 06:42 PM

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray could be an option for the Detroit Lions if the Titans release him this offseason, in the opinion of The Detroit News' Justin Rogers.

Footballguys view: There's a good chance they will, as Derrick Henry looked good this year. Detroit has yet to find a permanent answer in the backfield, though they have been able to cobble together some pieces. We're not sure Murray is really going to be their answer, but if the price is right, it makes sense for them to try.

Titans | DeMarco Murray remains confident    Tue Jan 16, 12:34 AM

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray said he believes he is 'definitely' still a top-end feature back. 'I am very confident in myself and I am excited,' he said. 'I am excited about the future, and my future. I know what kind of player I am.' He added that he 'probably' would have been able to return from injury in the next game had the Titans not lost their Divisional Round playoff affair Saturday, Jan. 13, against the New England Patriots. Murray also mentioned that he envisioned returning to the team next season.

Footballguys view: Murray is under contract for 2018 and 2019, but we don't see him staying with the Titans at his current price. He's set to count $6.5 million against the cap in 2018, but there's nothing remaining in dead money on his deal. That means he's likely cut. Perhaps the Titans would bring him back at a cheaper price, but either way they're moving forward with Derrick Henry as their top running back.

Titans | DeMarco Murray done in Tennessee?    Thu Jan 11, 08:32 PM

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray has a 'decent chance' of not returning to the team next season.

Footballguys view: The writing has been on the wall for some time, and it was just a matter of when the team would switch to Derrick Henry as their primary back. Murray is on the books for $6.5 million in 2018, which is too much for a second-string back, and the Titans would not owe any dead money if he is cut.

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (knee) was not able to practice Tuesday, Jan. 9.

Footballguys view: Murray's status for the Divisional Round Game against the Patriots is up in the air. Even if he is able to play, the Titans will use Derrick Henry as their workhorse back. The Titans should run the ball as much as possible to play 'defense' against Tom Brady by keeping him on the sidelines.

Titans | DeMarco Murray ruled out     Thu Jan 4, 01:13 PM

Updating a previous report, Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (knee) has been ruled out for the wild-card round of the playoffs with a sprained knee. RB Derrick Henry will start in his place.

Footballguys view: Henry is a fair runner who has had some nice games this season, and we think he could produce some decent numbers against Kansas City, though we are not expecting him to top the 100 yard mark. The danger is also that the Chiefs get enough of a lead to where Marcus Mariota has to throw the ball to get the Titans back into the game.

Titans | DeMarco Murray remains out of practice    Thu Jan 4, 01:03 PM

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (knee) will miss another day of practice Thursday, Jan. 4, with his sprained knee.

Footballguys view: Derrick Henry is likely to get the start, and we like him as a decent producer this weekend, though we don't think he will quite hit the 100 yard mark. He's not the worst option though, and his price might speak to you in DFS, even against Kansas City.

Titans | DeMarco Murray out again     Thu Dec 28, 02:54 PM

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (knee) remained sidelined at practice Thursday, Dec. 28.

Footballguys view: In a must win game for the Titans, this could mean a lot of Derrick Henry. The offense hasn't been great and Jacksonville is solid against the run, so we aren't as enthusiastic as we might be were situations different. He's a solid flex or RB3 this week.

Titans | DeMarco Murray has MCL tear    Tue Dec 26, 06:18 PM

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (knee) is dealing with a third-degree medial collateral ligament tear, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The team has not made a decision on Murray's playing status for Week 17. It's a must win for the Titans as they face the Jaguars on Sunday. Murray thinks he can play through the injury, but he'll be limited at best. Derrick Henry will be the team's lead back.

Titans | DeMarco Murray may be able to go Week 17    Tue Dec 26, 01:52 PM

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (knee) is day-to-day with a lateral collateral ligament sprain, but head coach Mike Mularkey has yet to rule him out and is holding out hope Murray can play in a limited role in Week 17 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: Murray's injury comes down to pain tolerance according to Mularkey. If he can play in the team's must-win game in Week 17, Murray would likely have a very limited role. Derrick Henry is the lead back this week with Murray banged up.

Titans | DeMarco Murray unlikely for finale    Mon Dec 25, 08:16 AM

Updating previous reports, Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (knee) is considered a long shot to play in Week 17 due to his lateral collateral sprain.

Footballguys view: Without Murray in Week 17, the Titans will turn to Derrick Henry more than ever. The Titans will make Henry the workhorse in a tough game against the Jaguars in Week 17 with their playoff hopes still alive.

Titans | DeMarco Murray diagnosed with sprain    Sun Dec 24, 05:53 PM

Updating a previous report, Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (knee) was diagnosed with a lateral collateral ligament sprain, a source said Sunday, Dec. 24. That's the initial diagnosis, although he'll have an MRI on Monday, Dec. 25, to confirm.

Footballguys view: It's hard to see him playing in the game at Jacksonville next week or in a wild card game if the Titans can win next week. He's likely going to be released with a 6.25 million dollar price tag next year.

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (knee) suffered a knee injury late in the Week 16 game against the Los Angeles Rams. Head coach Mike Mularkey said Sunday, Dec. 24, that 'it didn't look good.'

Footballguys view: Derrick Henry might finally get his starting shot in Week 17, when almost all fantasy leagues are done. He could still leave the Titans with a vivid picture of what he can do as the starter in 2018, including in the playoffs if they can knock off the Jaguars at home next week.

Titans | Friday's injury report for Tennessee    Fri Dec 1, 05:02 PM

Tennessee Titans WR Rishard Matthews (hamstring) was a limited participant in practice Friday, Dec. 1, and he is listed as questionable for Week 13 against the Houston Texans. RB DeMarco Murray (illness), LB Brian Orakpo (shoulder), OL Brian Schwenke (illness) and S Da'Norris Searcy (ankle) practiced in full and were removed from the injury report.

Footballguys view: Matthews appears to have a better chance of playing than he did last week, but like last week, his status will be determined by how he does in pregame warmups. The matchup is good against the Texans if he can go, with some risk of re-injury or limited effectiveness.

Titans | Tennessee to keep RB committee     Thu Nov 30, 09:24 PM

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray and RB Derrick Henry will continue to split carries as they have all season, head coach Mike Mularkey said Thursday, Nov. 30. 'I think the way it has worked out, it has worked just fine,' Mularkey said. 'I think we have two starters.'

Footballguys view: Both remain low ceiling flexes, Murray with touchdown upside and Henry with salt away the game carry upside. Perhaps an injury could clarify this situation before the end of the season, but the coaches seem unwilling to budge despite what is happening on the field.

Titans | DeMarco Murray misses practice    Thu Nov 30, 03:11 PM

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (illness) did not participate in practice Thursday, Nov. 30, because of an illness.

Footballguys view: Murray hasn't been good on the ground in a few weeks, but salvaged his days a little with receiving yards and, last week, a touchdown. We think he'll do better against Houston, but the bar has been kind of low. Plus, he may see more and more of a timeshare given his struggles. While he'll be better on the ground, overall we're not expecting more than RB3 numbers this week.

Titans | DeMarco Murray bottled up in win    Sun Nov 26, 06:17 PM

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray rushed 12 times for nine yards and a touchdown in Week 12 against the Indianapolis Colts while adding three catches for 33 yards on four targets.

Footballguys view: Murray was adequate for fantasy, but he adds very little to his touches. His value comes from his dominance in goal line touches, but he's still only a low ceiling flex or emergency RB2 against Houston next week.

Titans | DeMarco Murray likely to remain starter    Sat Nov 25, 11:32 AM

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray is expected to remain the starter over Derrick Henry for the remainder of the season, although offensive coordinator Terry Robiskie admitted there is 'a bit of a hot hand approach with the backs' and 'not a specific play count for each.'

Footballguys view: The ole 'hot hand' approach sucks for fantasy owners. Murray is the lead back but Derrick Henry could start for a dozen or more teams around the NFL. Moving forward, fantasy owners need to play this RBBC the same way -- Murray as a RB2 and Henry as a RB4/flex option on a weekly basis. If something changes, we'll make note of it but right now Murray is a consideration to be an every week starter while Henry should mostly be used in good matchups.

Titans | DeMarco Murray shut down by Steel Curtain    Fri Nov 17, 01:22 AM

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray gained 10 yards on eight carries (1.3 YPC) in Week 11 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Murray added 37 yards in the passing game on five receptions.

Footballguys view: Murray looked like he was running in wet cement. Derrick Henry clearly has more to offer in the running game right now, but the Titans seem committed to Murray as at least a half-time back on running downs. He'll be a flex or low RB2 next week at Indianapolis.

Titans | DeMarco Murray has rough matchup    Thu Nov 16, 11:28 AM

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray will face the best defense against the running back position in fantasy over the last five weeks in the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 11.

Footballguys view: Murray has not been terribly effective this season, but the Titans are starting to roll a bit on offense which is providing him with more red zone opportunities. The Steelers aren't an easy matchup, though we have seen some backs be successful against them. We could see the Titans back providing low end RB2 or high end RB3 numbers this week.

Titans | DeMarco Murray accounts for three TDs    Sun Nov 12, 05:43 PM

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray rushed for 42 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 10. He also caught four passes for 30 yards and one touchdown during the game.

Footballguys view: Murray didn't look any better than he has when struggling to be fantasy relevant for most of the year, but he converted his goal line touches and put up one of the best fantasy lines of Week 10. He'll remain a low RB2/flex against the Steelers this week, but since the Titans offense outlook is looking up, so is Murray's value.

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (knee) appears to be passed his shoulder and hamstring issues, but head coach Mike Mularkey told reporters the veteran running back is now dealing with a knee injury.

Footballguys view: His nine carries for 19 yards against the Ravens in Week 9 were a season low. We should see him limited in practice during the week. Murray's Week 10 status is not known at this time. Derrick Henry would be in line for a larger role at home against the Bengals if Murray can't play.
