Week 3: at Jacksonville Jaguars

All TE vs JAX

FBG says: Bad matchup. Blaine Gabbert led the Titans' passing offense last week as Marcus Mariota was still experiencing difficulty gripping and throwing the ball in pre-game warm-ups. With Gabbert under center, this was a very low-ceiling passing offense as he rarely threw beyond a few yards from the line of scrimmage. Corey Davis remained the top receiving option with seven targets while Rishard Matthews continues to find his feet after missing the entire preseason. Jonnu Smith disappointed in his first start without Delanie Walker, putting up an egg on the stat sheet as he did not receive a single target. The offensive line is banged up, but they did a decent job in pass protection to only allow the one sack last week despite Gabbert being forced out of the pocket more often than he would have preferred. This certainly led to more of a run-heavy game script with short passes being a mainstay in the offensive game plan. Keep a close eye on Mariota's status coming into this week, as more of the same can be expected if Gabbert suits up again in Week 3. The Jaguars passing defense held up nicely against one of the all-time greats last week, stifling the Patriots passing offense in the first half before allowing limited productivity and a couple touchdowns later in the game. The pass rush was a big factor in their success with that elite defensive line, led by Marcell Dareus and Calais Campbell, applying relentless pressure throughout the game. The depth on their line is just as impressive also, with Dante Fowler Jr. coming off the bench last week to make a significant impact despite limited snaps. Jalen Ramsey had a solid outing despite giving up a touchdown in man coverage to Chris Hogan. His start to the season has been a little slow, but Ramsey is still one of the most talented cornerbacks in the league. D.J. Hayden has made a huge impact out of the slot as well, while A.J. Bouye has locked down most receivers he has faced on the opposite side. The Jaguars safeties and linebackers also did an excellent job in shutting down Rob Gronkowski last week. Without even seeing many snaps in direct coverage by Ramsey, the best tight end in the league was limited to only two receptions for 15 yards. There are no matchup advantages to be had here for the Titans as each receiver will have their work cut out for them. On top of that, the banged-up offensive line should truly struggle against this Jaguars defensive front.
