Week 8: vs Oakland Raiders
Mark and Joe say: Neutral matchup. Jameis Winston got his groove back at San Francisco throwing 21/30 for 269 yards passing, three TDs and one interception while taking two sacks for -5 yards in the process. With Vincent Jackson sidelined, he (as usual) relied on Mike Evans to do the heavy lifting with 13 targets for 8/96/2 receiving, and Russell Shepard was the second-most targeted receiver last week with six for 5/77/1. Antone Smith (a recent free agent import who played for Dirk Koetter in Atlanta previously) saw three targets for 2/41/0 receiving. Cameron Brate (three for 3/29/0) and Adam Humphries (three for 2/17/0) were also in the mix last week. We'll see if Winston can keep the momentum going at home vs. Oakland this weekend. The Raiders' pass defense is last in the league when it comes to yards allowed per game, averaging 302.1. They've allowed 13 passing scores vs. seven interceptions (sixth in the NFL in this category) and just nine sacks (second-to-last in the NFL) generated to date. Blake Bortles was harrassed into 23/43 for 239 net yards passing, one TD and two interceptions thrown last weekend, while taking one sack for -7 yards. Two weeks ago the Raiders' pass defense limited the Chiefs to 19/23 for 223 yards passing, zero TDs or interceptions thrown, with one sack taken for -1 yard - they have been playing better than their season average indicates in recent weeks. However, because of giving up 351 net yards passing and four TDs to Philip Rivers three games ago, their recent-past numbers are still skewed, so we'll pass over them for the moment. This looks like a neutral matchup for Winston and company.

Latest NewsBuccaneers | Friday injury report for Buccaneers (Fri Oct 21, 08:27 PM) - Tampa Bay Buccaneers DE Robert Ayers (ankle), RB Doug Martin (hamstring) and DT Clinton McDonald (hamstring) have been ruled out for Week 7. CB Jude Adjei-Barimah (knee), C Joe Hawley (knee), DT Gerald McCoy (calf), WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) and TE Luke Stocker (ankle) are listed as questionable. Ayers and Martin did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 21. McCoy and McDonald were limited during practice, while the other players fully participated in practice. Our View: McCoy could return this week, but the Bucs will still be without half of their starting defensive line. Colin Kaepernick might find it easier to escape the pocket and create as a scrambler this weekend.
