Miami Dolphins TE MarQueis Gray (Achilles') was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Thursday, Sept. 6. Free-agent TE Gavin Escobar (Dolphins) re-signed with the Dolphins on an undisclosed deal.

Footballguys view: More of a switch at blocking tight end than anything else, this should keep things stable in terms of blocking.

Dolphins | Several TEs work with starters    Fri Jun 15, 04:14 PM

Miami Dolphins TEs Mike Gesicki, A.J. Derby, MarQueis Gray, Durham Smythe and Gavin Escobar all received snaps with the first-team offense during offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins don't have a clear picture at the TE position. Derby is an interesting 'F' tight end who can be used as a receiver only. Gesicki, the rookie second-round pick from Penn State, is also an 'F' tight end and a larger target than Derby...and likely more athletic. He can be groomed as the TE of the future, but Gesicki may take some time to develop in the pros. Gray is a physical player with surprising athleticism (former quarterback), while Smythe (2018 fourth-round pick) is your traditional 'Y' tight end with an all-purpose skill set.

Browns | Gavin Escobar to Browns    Mon Jan 15, 10:23 AM

Free-agent TE Gavin Escobar (Ravens) signed a Reserve/Futures deal with the Cleveland Browns Monday, Jan. 15.

Footballguys view: A second-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft (Cowboys), Escobar has bounced around the league a bit during his short career. He's a huge target, measuring in at 6'6" but Escobar has never paid off on that potential as a pass catcher. His career high in catches and yards came in his rookie season, nine catches for 134 yards. As you can see, that's not much...about what someone like Travis Kelce could do in one game.

Free-agent TEs Jace Amaro (Titans), Devon Cajuste (Packers) and Gavin Escobar (Ravens) recently worked out for the Chicago Bears, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Bears are just updating their emergency list here. In a few weeks, NFL teams will be signing players to futures contracts. Perhaps one of these TEs could be one of those players for the Bears.

Ravens | Gavin Escobar cut    Sat Nov 18, 02:48 PM

Baltimore Ravens TE Gavin Escobar was released Saturday, Nov. 18.

Footballguys view: Escobar was a second-round pick out of San Diego State (Cowboys) in 2013 and he's never been able to flash much as a pro. He couldn't make it through camp with the Chiefs in 2017 and was signed by the Ravens less than a month ago. Escobar is a pass-catching TE and that may get him some interest but don't expect him to do much if he signs with a new team.

Free-agent TE Gavin Escobar (Cowboys) agreed to a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs Friday, March 31, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Escobar is a receiving tight end who could work as a pass-catcher behind Travis Kelce. He doesn't have much fantasy value...even in super deep dynasty leagues.

Cowboys | Gavin Escobar on the bubble    Wed Aug 31, 01:10 AM

Dallas Cowboys TE Gavin Escobar is not considered a lock to make the 53-man roster, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

Footballguys view: Escobar was supposed to be the heir apparent to Jason Witten, but he's never flourished in the pros. He should not be a lock for the 53-man roster, and Escobar is a player to forget about in dynasty leagues.

Cowboys | Gavin Escobar avoids PUP    Fri Jul 29, 11:55 AM

Dallas Cowboys TE Gavin Escobar (Achilles') was not placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Friday, July 29.

Footballguys view: This is a good sign for Escobar's ability to get back to his pre-injury form, although that form was far from justifying the second-round pick the Cowboys spent on him in 2013. James Hanna is on the PUP to open camp, so Escobar surprisingly is the one with a leg up here in the quest to be the #2 tight end.

Cowboys | Gavin Escobar should be ready    Tue Jul 19, 02:15 PM

Dallas Cowboys TE Gavin Escobar (Achilles') is expected to be ready for the regular season, according to owner Jerry Jones. Escobar underwent surgery last December to repair a torn Achilles' tendon.

Footballguys view: Achilles' injuries aren't quite as devastating as they used to be. Escobar's dynasty stock is low, and we don't see him turning things around with the Cowboys. Jason Witten is their primary TE, and at this time it seems Escobar is not his heir apparent.

Cowboys | Gavin Escobar likely headed to PUP list    Sun Jul 10, 09:11 AM

Dallas Cowboys TE Gavin Escobar (Achilles') is expected to begin the season on the PUP list after suffering a torn right Achilles' tendon in Week 15 last year.

Footballguys view: Dynasty owners shouldn't be holding onto Escobar expecting much to happen with him now or in the future. He may be their second-best TE (by default), but we don't see Escobar as the heir apparent to Jason Witten. If he's on the PUP list to begin the season, Escobar would be forced to miss the first six weeks. After that time, the Cowboys would have three weeks to evaluate him and decide whether or not to shut him down for the year.

Dallas Cowboys TE Gavin Escobar (Achilles') continues to rehab from a torn Achilles' tendon suffered last December.

Cowboys | Gavin Escobar has surgery    Tue Dec 22, 07:12 PM

Dallas Cowboys TE Gavin Escobar (Achilles') underwent successful surgery on his torn Achilles' tendon Tuesday, Dec. 22.

Footballguys view: Achilles' injuries aren't as devastating as they used to be. Escobar might be able to be ready by the time training camp rolls around in 2016. If he needs more time to recover, the Cowboys could choose to put him on the PUP list to start the season.

Cowboys | Gavin Escobar could play more    Sat Sep 19, 01:42 PM

Dallas Cowboys TE Gavin Escobar could see increased playing time with WR Dez Bryant (foot) out, particularly in the red zone, according to ESPNDallas.com's Todd Archer.

Footballguys view: Keep an eye on this situation. Escobar may get used more in the red zone, but Jason Witten is still the primary TE for the Cowboys. It will be interesting to see how the targets are distributed without Dez Bryant going forward.

Cowboys | Gavin Escobar seeing more playing time    Fri Oct 24, 02:45 PM

Dallas Cowboys TE Gavin Escobar is moving closer to 50 percent of the offensive snaps as the team uses fewer three-wide receiver sets. Escobar had three catches for 65 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 7 win over the New York Giants.

Footballguys view: Escobar is a good desperation play at tight end this week if you are covering a bye or filling in for an injured Owen Daniels. He is also clearly worth a stash in TE premium and deep dynasty leagues.

Cowboys | Tony Romo shines again    Sun Oct 19, 11:17 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo was 17-for-23 for 279 yards and three touchdowns in the Week 7 win over the New York Giants, and two touchdowns went to TE Gavin Escobar. 'I'd have to say that may be (the) best game I've ever seen Tony Romo play,' owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. 'That was an outstanding game. He was pinpointing the ball, making the kind of plays and protecting the ball.'   Cowboys | Gavin Escobar update    Fri Aug 22, 01:11 PM

Dallas Cowboys TE Gavin Escobar (shoulder) was able to practice some this week, and is hoping to play in the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 23. Escobar is in extra padding to protect the injury. 'You can only contribute if you're on the field, so that's what I've got to do,' said Escobar.

Dallas Cowboys WR Terrance Williams has done everything asked of him in training camp as the No. 2 wide receiver opposite WR Dez Bryant. The No. 3 receiver position seems to be a committee with WR Cole Beasley as the leader among TE Gavin Escobar and WRs Dwayne Harris and Devin Street.

Cowboys | Gavin Escobar lining up as a WR    Mon Jul 28, 11:17 PM

Dallas Cowboys TE Gavin Escobar has often lined up out wide during training camp, and offensive play-caller Scott Linehan is experimenting with different ways to get him involved in the offense.

Footballguys view: That is a good decision for the Cowboys. Escobar is a move tight end, and he's essentially a super-sized wide receiver. He's not going to get many targets behind Jason Witten, but he could be mixed in from time to time to create mismatch problems.
