Panthers | Carolina cuts 17 players Fri Aug 31, 06:27 PM
Carolina Panthers DT Tracy Sprinkle, DE Sterling Bailey, LB Richie Brown, LB Chris Frey, CB LaDarius Gunter, S Demetrious Cox, CB Alex Carter, OT Blaine Clausell, OG Norman Price, TE Cam Serigne, WR Rasheed Bailey, WR Bug Howard, OG Quinterrius Eatmon, OT Adam Bisnowaty, TE Evan Baylis and TE Jason Reese were waived Friday, Aug. 31. The team also released RB Kenjon Barner.
Footballguys view: Barner has bounced around the league as a pass-catching back and could get a call during the season if injuries deplete a backfield. Serigne has some developmental tight end potential and could end up on a practice squad. |

Lions | Alex Carter moved to safety Wed May 31, 10:34 AM
Detroit Lions CB Alex Carter has been moved to safety on a permanent basis, according to head coach Jim Caldwell, as the team likes Carter's size there.
Footballguys view: A third-round pick out of Stanford in 2015, Carter hasn't been able to showcase his talent. As a rookie, Carter's season was eliminated due to an ankle injury. In 2016, Carter was only active for one game and was on the team's practice squad for the rest of the year. A physical player in college, Carter's move to safety is not unexpected as he's best keeping the play in front of him. |

NCAA | Alex Carter turns pro Thu Jan 1, 01:30 AM
Stanford CB Alex Carter has decided to declare for the 2015 NFL Draft after talking it over with family.
Footballguys view: Carter played well in 2014 at about 80 percent health due to a torn labrum he suffered at the end of the 2013 season. At 6'0" 202 pounds, Carter plays cornerback like a hard-hitting safety. He's a physical player who can excel in run support. Carter lacks elite speed, so his 40-yard time at the Combine is going to really impact his draft stock. |
