Detroit Lions CB Alex Carter has been moved to safety on a permanent basis, according to head coach Jim Caldwell, as the team likes Carter's size there.
| Footballguys view: A third-round pick out of Stanford in 2015, Carter hasn't been able to showcase his talent. As a rookie, Carter's season was eliminated due to an ankle injury. In 2016, Carter was only active for one game and was on the team's practice squad for the rest of the year. A physical player in college, Carter's move to safety is not unexpected as he's best keeping the play in front of him. |

| Footballguys view: Carter played well in 2014 at about 80 percent health due to a torn labrum he suffered at the end of the 2013 season. At 6'0" 202 pounds, Carter plays cornerback like a hard-hitting safety. He's a physical player who can excel in run support. Carter lacks elite speed, so his 40-yard time at the Combine is going to really impact his draft stock. |
