Week 6: at Cleveland Browns

All RB vs CLE

FBG says: Neutral matchup. Melvin Gordon is continuing to have a career season all while limiting his workload which bodes well for the rest of his season outlook. This past week was the first week in which we saw Gordon have more than 15 carries as the team has tried to limit him to the 15 carry (which he has hit three times) as they have given him more touches in the passing game. Gordon is averaging 4.6 yards per carry which is a career best as he has never been above 3.9 yards per carry throughout his career and even more impressive is that his long on the season is only 36 yards meaning his yards per carry is not inflated by a few long touchdown runs. Helping Gordon even more this week is that his offensive line maybe back to near full strength as both Russell Okung and Joe Barksdale were limited participants on Wednesday and there is some optimism that they would be able to go this week. The Browns rushing defense has been a volatile unit most of the season as they have three solid games and two games in which they looked like they could not stop anyone allowing James Conner and Marshawn Lynch to both run for 130+ yards. Last week, the Browns did a decent job shutting down the Ravens holding them to 93 yards on 20 carries all with Christian Kirksey playing less than 100% battling through cramps during the game as he had the flu during the week. Kirksey is the key to this defense as he missed Weeks 2 and 3, but is a prolific tackling linebacker. The one thing about the Browns is that if you can keep them on the field, they are susceptible as they do not rotate their defensive line nearly as much as other teams, in fact, you see players such as defensive lineman Emmanuel Ogbah, Myles Garrett and Larry Ogunjobi all had 70+ snaps the last two weeks. If the Chargers can wear down this Browns front four which is a strength for the Browns it could lead to a lot of one on one pressure forcing the linebackers to make plays.
