Free-agent LB Desmond Bishop (49ers) re-signed with the San Francisco 49ers Tuesday, March 31. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Bishop could have a chance for some playing time on special teams. He played in only two games last year for the 49ers, recording two tackles. The veteran linebacker gives the 49ers depth at a position they're short-handed in.

The Arizona Cardinals have declared LB Desmond Bishop, RB Michael Bush, LB Kenny Demens, WR Larry Fitzgerald, TE Matthew Mulligan, DT Ed Stinson, DT Alameda Ta'amu inactive for Week 13.

Footballguys view: John Brown and Jaron Brown will both get extra snaps against an easy-to-beat Falcons secondary with Fitzgerald out. John is a good upside flex play, and Jaron is a desperation play that could work out.

The Arizona Cardinals have signed free-agent LB Desmond Bishop (Vikings), according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals have neither of their 2013 starting ILBs. As of right now, second-year LB Kevin Minter and old warhorse Larry Foote are the first-stringers, but this could be a sign that the Cardinals are looking for an upgrade there, if not at least among their depth at the position.

Vikings | Desmond Bishop in limbo    Tue Aug 13, 11:10 AM

Minnesota Vikings LB Desmond Bishop (groin) is not a lock to make the team. He has been bothered by a groin injury in camp.

Footballguys view: Ted Thompson knew what he was doing when he released Bishop. Not only are Bishop's days as a top IDP linebacker over, his days as a relevant IDP linebacker might be over. He's not worth drafting in IDP redraft leagues, and the bottom has dropped out of his dynasty IDP value.

Vikings | Desmond Bishop likely to start    Thu Jul 25, 02:31 PM

Minnesota Vikings LB Desmond Bishop is likely to start at outside linebacker in 2013. Head coach Leslie Frazier said the team likes his blitzing skills from that position.

Footballguys view: This is devastating for his IDP value, but terrific news for anyone who owns Erin Henderson. Bishop is probably no greater than an LB3/LB4 this year, and maybe not even that. Don't overdraft him on name value.

Vikings | Desmond Bishop believes he is versatile    Wed Jun 26, 05:48 PM

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings LB Desmond Bishop said he believes he can play middle linebacker or either outside linebacker job this season.

Footballguys view: Look for the Vikings to put him in the middle, with Erin Henderson shifting outside to play opposite Chad Greenway. The Vikings seemed hesitant to trust Henderson in the middle, so this would improve their standing at both MLB and OLB.

Vikings | Desmond Bishop expects to be ready for camp    Wed Jun 26, 05:46 PM

Minnesota Vikings LB Desmond Bishop said he expects to be ready to fully participate once training camp begins. He has been training in Arizona to get ready for the regular season.

Footballguys view: There has been speculation that Bishop's hamstring must be in bad shape for the Packers to release him, but this suggests otherwise. He should be a solid LB3/LB4 pick with upside this year.

Vikings | Desmond Bishop unsure of position    Tue Jun 25, 04:31 PM

Minnesota Vikings LB Desmond Bishop said he was not sure if he would play inside linebacker or outside linebacker. Bishop said there was nothing set in stone.

Footballguys view: We have a feeling Bishop will be playing Inside Linebacker with Chad Greenway on the strong side and Erin Henderson on the weak side. So long as he's healthy the Vikings got a good deal picking him up on the open market. Bishop is smart, has a nose for the football, and is known as a sound tackler.

Vikings | Desmond Bishop wanted to play against Packers    Tue Jun 25, 02:16 PM

Minnesota Vikings LB Desmond Bishop said part of the reason he chose to sign with the team was to play against his old team, and QB Aaron Rodgers in particular. 'It was part of the reason,' Bishop said. 'And if I can get a chance to play against Aaron Rodgers, I think that right there, in itself, is a motivation. You know, you want to play against the best. ... When I was playing for Green Bay, the games I cherished ... most was playing against the Vikings because I had a chance to play against (running back) Adrian Peterson...That's my mindset. I want to play against the best.'

Vikings | Erin Henderson could start at OLB    Mon Jun 24, 05:56 PM

Minnesota Vikings LB Erin Henderson could start at weakside linebacker this season if the team decides middle linebacker is a better fit for LB Desmond Bishop.

Footballguys view: That seems like the best scenario for the Vikings. Bishop was a great addition if he's fully recovered from the hamstring injury that cost him all of last season.

Vikings | Desmond Bishop agrees to terms    Mon Jun 24, 02:59 PM

The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to terms with free-agent LB Desmond Bishop (Packers). Bishop agreed to a one-year deal worth around $1.5 million. The deal could be worth as much as $2 million based in incentives.

Footballguys view: Bishop will compete for jobs at middle linebacker and weakside linebacker this season. It's a strong move for the Vikings if Bishop's hamstring injury is cleared up. He missed all of last season due to a severe hamstring injury but still has the ability to be one of the best inside linebackers in the game today. Bishop is smart, finds the ball quickly, and is known as a sound tackler.

Giants | Desmond Bishop would have to accept a short-term deal    Fri Jun 21, 06:22 PM

The New York Giants likely would only be interested in free-agent LB Desmond Bishop (Packers) if he were willing to accept a one-year deal for the minimum salary. The team only has $3.3 million in salary cap space.

Footballguys view: If this is true, then Bishop's value has fallen dramatically. He is reportedly considering the Giants as one of the three possible teams he'll play for, along with the Chiefs and Vikings. If Bishop would consider playing for the minimum for the Giants, that must mean that the other offers aren't much better. He's still likely to start and retain some value in dynasty IDP leagues, but his value has taken a big hit in the last two weeks.

NFL | Latest on Desmond Bishop    Fri Jun 21, 03:36 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent LB Desmond Bishop (Packers) is still deciding where to sign between the Minnesota Vikings, the Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Giants.

Footballguys view: Bishop's best IDP destination is probably the Vikings, but all of them will likely only offer him a one-year deal, so his dynasty value is still unstable long-term.

NFL | Desmond Bishop decision coming soon    Thu Jun 20, 04:20 PM

Free-agent LB Desmond Bishop (Packers) could make a decision soon on who he will sign with. Bishop could consider the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Giants. Bishop said he also could consider a return to Green Bay if all things were equal. The decision could come as soon as Thursday, June 20.

Footballguys view: We're not surprised Bishop is going to be signed soon. He's one of the best players on the open market if he's healthy. Bishop missed all of 2012 with a severe hamstring injury.

Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Alan Williams said free-agent LB Desmond Bishop (Packers) had a good workout with the team Wednesday, June 19, but did not know if the team will sign Bishop.

Footballguys view: Bishop can be a standout player and is one of the best free agents on the market at any position. His health will determine how much interest he gets and how quickly he signs. Bishop was knocked out all last season with a severe hamstring injury.

Jaguars | Could show interest in Desmond Bishop    Tue Jun 18, 02:13 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars could show interest in free-agent LB Desmond Bishop (Packers).

Footballguys view: The Jags might be thinking of moving Bishop to one of their outside linebacker spots, or moving Paul Posluszny to open up a spot for him in the middle. Geno Hayes and Russell Allen are the other two starting linebackers as of this moment, so Bishop would be a big upgrade.

Chiefs | Desmond Bishop to visit    Tue Jun 18, 12:27 PM

Free-agent LB Desmond Bishop (Packers) will visit with the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday, June 20.

Footballguys view: Bishop would be a perfect fit next to Derrick Johnson in the Chiefs' 3-4 defense, and his addition would up their sleeper playoff team status. He might not return to LB1 or even LB2 levels in Kansas City, so Bishop's dynasty owners should hope for him to land in Minnesota instead.
