NFL | C.J. Anderson retiring Fri Sep 18, 01:42 PM

Seahawks | Seattle works out C.J. Anderson Mon Dec 23, 05:19 PM
Updating a previous report, Free-agent RB C.J. Anderson (Lions) worked out for the Seattle Seahawks Monday, Dec. 23.
Footballguys view: The Seahawks are looking for running back help and Anderson is the perfect back for a late-season or postseason run. He played two games for the Lions earlier this year but has been on the open market for months. Last year, Anderson helped the Rams get to the Super Bowl as their lead back when Todd Gurley was banged up. He could do something similar for the Seahawks. However, Seattle may bring back Marshawn Lynch instead of signing Anderson. |

Raiders | Oakland works out C.J. Anderson Mon Oct 21, 06:02 PM
Free-agent RB C.J. Anderson (Lions) recently worked out for the Oakland Raiders.
Footballguys view: The Raiders don't have a true between the tackles grinder behind Josh Jacobs. Anderson fits that role. With running back injuries starting to pile up, Anderson should be signed somewhere soon. |

Giants | C.J. Anderson works out for NYG Fri Oct 11, 08:47 PM
Free-agent RB C.J. Anderson (Lions) recently worked out for the New York Giants.
Footballguys view: The Giants have a banged up RB room right now with Saquon Barkley and Wayne Gallman out. Anderson has been out on the open market for a couple of weeks after the Lions let him go. He should land with a team sometime for the end of the season. |

Texans | C.J. Anderson working out for HOU Tue Sep 24, 01:49 PM
Free-agent RB C.J. Anderson (Lions) is working out for the Houston Texans Tuesday, Sept. 24.
Footballguys view: This is the first known interest for Anderson. He's a veteran back who can step in and start if a team needs. The Texans already have Carlos Hyde but they may feel that Anderson's experience, intelligence and rushing ability would be an upgrade. |

Lions | C.J. Anderson cut Tue Sep 17, 05:44 PM
Detroit Lions RB C.J. Anderson was released Tuesday, Sept. 17. Free-agent RB Paul Perkins (Giants) was signed to an undisclosed contract to replace him on the roster.
Footballguys view: We saw this happen with Anderson last year too. In fact, both the Panthers and the Raiders cut him last year but when he landed with the Rams he was a key fantasy asset. We'll see what kind of interest he generates now that he's back on the open market. |

Lions | Zach Zenner could challenge for backup role Thu Jul 18, 02:37 AM
Detroit Lions RB Zach Zenner could challenge veteran RB C.J. Anderson for the No. 2 spot behind RB Kerryon Johnson, in the opinion of The Detroit News' Justin Rogers, who notes that Zenner's north-south running style is a good fit for the team's blocking scheme.
Footballguys view: Zenner has a role for the Lions and we'll see if he can push Anderson in training camp. Anderson is much more experienced and was one of the best running backs down the stretch last year as he helped the Rams make it to the Super Bowl. Now, Anderson is working for the Lions and the most likely backup behind Kerryon Johnson in 2019. |

Lions | C.J. Anderson sees Detroit as perfect fit Sun Jun 2, 06:54 PM
Detroit Lions RB C.J. Anderson said he believes Detroit is a perfect fit for him because of the success offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell has had with running backs in the past.
Footballguys view: The Lions will want to run the ball as much as any team in the league. Anderson showed last year that he can still get it done, and if the Lions line gels, there will be some redraft value for Anderson, and of course Kerryon Johnson injury upside. Anderson's presence in Detroit will likely lower Johnson's season-long and weekly ceiling, although he had no effect on Christian McCaffrey's value in Carolina. |

Lions | Detroit adds C.J. Anderson Mon Apr 1, 06:33 PM
Free-agent RB C.J. Anderson (Rams) signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions Monday, April 1, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: The Lions get their LeGarrette Blount replacement in Anderson. He finished the year strong for the Rams and was a key piece for them in the postseason. Anderson will split touches with Kerryon Johnson so the team can keep Johnson fresh. Expect Theo Riddick to have a role as the Lions pass-catching back too. |

Rams | C.J. Anderson not returning to LAR? Fri Mar 22, 09:39 PM
Free-agent RB C.J. Anderson (Rams) said on his Twitter feed that his time with the Los Angeles Rams 'was fun' and that he enjoyed the opportunity.
Footballguys view: Malcolm Brown's return ended Anderson's short but memorable run for the Rams. We know he can still play, but his services still don't seem to be in demand. |

Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson said Tuesday, Jan. 29, he is now playing at 235 pounds -- up from his previous playing weight of 225.

Rams | C.J. Anderson back on the field Fri Jan 25, 08:38 PM
Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson (illness) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 25.
Footballguys view: Anderson could play a large role for the Rams in the Super Bowl. He's done a fine job filling in for an injured Todd Gurley at the end of the regular season, and Anderson gives them a nice 1-2 punch now that Gurley is back in action. |

Rams | Todd Gurley limited in NFC title game Sun Jan 20, 06:39 PM
Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley rushed four times for 10 yards and a touchdown and he added a three-yard catch in the NFC Championship Game against the New Orleans Saints, while RB C.J. Anderson handled the majority of the workload with 17 total touches.
Footballguys view: Gurley was barely used and didn't do anything that would make an observer malign that decision. He won't be more than a committee back for the Super Bowl and the offense seems to miss Cooper Kupp more than him. |

Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson rushed 16 times for 44 yards in the NFC Championship Game against the New Orleans Saints and he added a five-yard catch.
Footballguys view: Anderson wasn't nearly as strong as he has regularly been since joining the Rams, but he was the lead back and will be playing a big role in the Super Bowl after being released twice this year. |

Rams | C.J. Anderson ready to roll Thu Jan 17, 11:53 PM
Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson said he is the freshest running back in the league heading into a matchup with the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship Game. 'I look faster than everyone else, part of it because I'm fresh,' Anderson said.
Footballguys view: Anderson was out of the league for a bit in the 2018 season after the Panthers decided to release him. He then signed with the Raiders for a week, only to never touch the ball and get released a week later. Anderson then got picked up by the Rams and he's had over 100-yards rushing in each of the three games he's played in for the team. Going up against the Saints in New Orleans is tough for any team, but we'll see if the Rams can grind them down on the ground with Anderson and starter Todd Gurley. |

Rams | Sean McVay believed in C.J. Anderson Sun Jan 13, 02:32 PM
Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson had the full confidence of head coach Sean McVay, who signed the free agent on Dec. 18. 'He's a guy that's played in big-time games,' coach Sean McVay said Saturday, Jan. 12, following the Rams' 30-22 divisional-round playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys. 'You know that no moment is too big for him. This is a guy that's had a big-time role and a Super Bowl champion team. He's just got a great feel for the game. I think he did a great job again tonight. Was really just impressed with him from the jump -- the way that he was able to come in, I guess it would be about a month ago now, and how quickly he was able to pick things up. Really smart, cerebral player and does a great job putting his pads down, finishing falling forward.'

Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson rushed 23 times for 123 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-22 win over the Dallas Cowboys in the divisional round Saturday, Jan. 12.
Footballguys view: Anderson is making the latest argument that the running back position is interchangeable. He's also making a case to have a larger role somewhere next year. We'll expect another big workload next week. |

Rams | C.J. Anderson could see action Sat Jan 5, 09:44 PM
Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson could continue to have a role in the offense during the playoffs, according to head coach Sean McVay. 'But, he's certainly earned the right to be on the field,' McVay said. 'He's done a great job these last couple weeks.'
Footballguys view: Todd Gurley has three weeks to rest with the bye week and Anderson starting the last two weeks of the regular season. It only makes sense to use Gurley as much as possible but also to use Anderson when he needs rest. |

Rams | C.J. Anderson next man up for LA Rams? Fri Dec 21, 01:54 PM
Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson could play a role as early as this week, according to head coach Sean McVay, and 'all indications' point to Anderson being the first back off the bench if Todd Gurley is unable to play in Week 16 against the Arizona Cardinals.
Footballguys view: This has been confirmed by multiple beat writers. Anderson, not John Kelly, is the back to carry and plug in if Gurley is ruled out Sunday. |

Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson may have an offensive role in Week 16 even though he signed with the Rams earlier this week, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Footballguys view: Anderson is a seasoned veteran who could step in and get some carries for the Rams. With Todd Gurley a bit banged up, the team may choose to limit Gurley's touches and give some handoffs instead to guys like Anderson. |

Free-agent RB C.J. Anderson (Raiders) is signing an undisclosed deal with the Los Angeles Rams Tuesday, Dec. 18, according to a source. Anderson will serve as backup to RB Todd Gurley (knee).
Footballguys view: Anderson lasted a week with the Raiders but finds a new home quickly. Gurley has been dealing with knee inflammation and the team might decide to give him some rest. The Rams travel to play a hapless Cardinals team in Week 16. Anderson could get some work early with his new team if Gurley sits this week. Rookie John Kelly is there to get some snaps too if Gurley doesn't play. |

Raiders | Oakland takes chance on C.J. Anderson Tue Dec 4, 07:20 PM
Free-agent RB C.J. Anderson (Panthers) signed an undisclosed deal with the Oakland Raiders Tuesday, Dec. 4, according to a source.
Footballguys view: It's an interesting move for Anderson...and for the Raiders. Anderson will now compete with Doug Martin, Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington for playing time. He's a depth move with the ability to emerge as a lead back if the Raiders are tired of their other backs (they all three lost fumbles against the Chiefs on Sunday). Anderson will wear no.35 for the Raiders. |

Free-agent RB Charcandrick West (Jets) is expected to sign an undisclosed contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in the near future, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.
Footballguys view: The Chiefs worked out West and free agent C.J. Anderson on Monday but decided to go with the guy who had four years worth of experience with the team. Anderson had a good workout according to reports and is ready if needed. West will compete for snaps as a change-of-pace back behind starter Spencer Ware. |

Lions | C.J. Anderson works out for Detroit Tue Nov 27, 05:58 PM
Free-agent RB C.J. Anderson (Panthers) worked out for the Detroit Lions Tuesday, Nov. 27.
Footballguys view: This is Anderson's first known workout since the Panthers released him a couple of weeks ago. The Lions have a banged up backfield at the moment with rookie Kerryon Johnson missing time due to a knee injury. Veteran LeGarrette Blount is there plus Theo Riddick mixes in as a pass-catching back. If Anderson was unhappy with a lack of playing time in Carolina, there's not a clear path to more playing time with the Lions if they decide to add him. He may wait for a different opportunity. |

Panthers | C.J. Anderson done in Carolina Mon Nov 12, 03:48 PM
Carolina Panthers RB C.J. Anderson was released Monday, Nov. 12.
Footballguys view: Anderson rushed for over 1,000 yards with the Broncos last year but failed to fit with the Panthers as a backup behind Christian McCaffrey. He should get some interest on the open market from running back needy teams. The Panthers move on with Cameron Artis-Payne as the primary backup. |

Panthers | C.J Anderson out sick Wed Sep 12, 02:50 PM
Carolina Panthers RB C.J. Anderson (illness) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 12.
Footballguys view: Anderson should be fine later in the week. He looked good in the season opener for the Panthers when Christian McCaffrey needed some rest. So long as McCaffrey is healthy, Anderson's fantasy value will be little more than a handcuff. |

Carolina Panthers RB C.J. Anderson rushed eight times for 39 yards and caught two passes for nine yards in a 27-20 win over the Miami Dolphins Friday, Aug. 17.
Footballguys view: That sounds about right. Anderson just keeps chugging along with his new team. They are going to feature starter Christian McCaffrey as much as they possibly can in 2018, but Anderson makes for a nice handcuff and would have at least RB2 value if thrust into the starting lineup. |

Carolina Panthers RB C.J. Anderson rushed four times for 16 yards and a touchdown in a 28-23 win over the Buffalo Bills in the preseason Thursday, Aug. 9.
Footballguys view: Anderson was expected to fill a role similar to the one Jonathan Stewart had last year, and he's more capable than Stewart, but the team leaned on Christian McCaffrey when the first team offense was on the field. He's still a useful back, but Anderson's value without a McCaffrey injury might be lower than we originally thought. |

Panthers | Carolina signs C.J. Anderson Mon May 7, 04:01 PM
Free-agent RB C.J. Anderson (Broncos) is signing an undisclosed deal with the Carolina Panthers Monday, May 7, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Anderson is coming off the best season of his career, but the Broncos decided to go in a different direction. He stayed healthy for 16 games for the first time last year and posted over 1,000 yards rushing. With Jonathan Stewart (Giants) moving on in free agency, Anderson can take over that role as the 'big back' to Christian McCaffrey's 'do everything' role. Anderson should be the leading ball carrier for the Panthers with McCaffrey getting the most receptions out of the backfield. |

Free-agent RB C.J. Anderson (Broncos) has drawn interest from eight teams, according to 9news.com's Mike Klis. There is no timeline on a potential signing, however.

Anderson was on the trade block but was not generating much interest, so the team decided to release him on the first day players reported to Dove Valley. A 1,000-yard rusher last year, Anderson's agent has already had several teams check in on his availability. The move saves Denver $4.5 million in cap space. |

Broncos | C.J. Anderson will be at workouts Sun Apr 15, 09:42 PM
Denver Broncos RB C.J. Anderson said he will be at the start of the offseason workout program Monday, April 16, and he is using the rumors that he was being traded as motivation.
Footballguys view: Anderson has always been motivated by how much the team loves him. He used that as motivation to rush for over 1,000 yards for the first time in his career last season. Anderson is not safe by any stretch as the Broncos could be in line to select Saquon Barkley with the no.5 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft. If they select a running back with a premium pick, the Broncos could move Anderson in a trade or outright release him...saving his total $4.5 million salary in the process. |

Broncos | Recent C.J. Anderson trade nixed by Miami? Tue Apr 10, 12:04 PM
The Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins reportedly had a verbal agreement in place to trade RB C.J. Anderson for OT Ja'Wuan James before the Dolphins 'surprisingly nixed' the deal, according to Denver 7's Troy Renck.
Footballguys view: This was known for some time but it's getting out there a bit more. Anderson has been on the trade block since the Scouting Combine at least, but there have been no takers for his services. There's a chance he remains with the team at a $4.5 million price tag, but it may be more likely the Broncos move on with a RB drafted with a premium pick in the 2018 NFL draft. |
