Colts | C. Simpson makes most of limited work in Week 7 Mon Oct 26, 11:47 AM
Mike Chappell, of the Indianapolis Star, reports Indianapolis Colts RB Chad Simpson spelled RB Joseph Addai late in the fourth quarter of Week 7 and rushed for 35 yards on three carries.
| Our view: Simpson got in the game because it was a blowout, and Addai's main backup Donald Brown sustained a shoulder injury. The injury to Brown is not considered serious, and this is likely Simpson's biggest game of the year. |

Colts | No plans to change the RB rotation Tue Oct 20, 10:44 PM
Colts GM Bill Polian stated on Colts.com that the team has no intention of changing their current rotation at running back. "Right now, there's no plan to change the rotation. We feel pretty good about it. We think it has been successful for us. Donald is a rookie. Traditionally, rookies wear down toward the end of the season, so we're trying to husband his carries early as we did with Joseph when he was a rookie, to make sure he's healthy and viable at the end. That leads us to the rotation we have now. It has served us well, and I think we'll stay with it." Polian said.
| Our view: Donald Brown is doing more with his carries, but Addai is getting more receptions out of the backfield and has scored more touchdowns on the season. This rotation is keeping Addai fresh, and that means a continued RBBC in Indy. If Addai were to go down with an injury Brown could take over a has the potential to be a top 10 fantasy RB. |

Colts | Addai catches 10 passes Week 5 Mon Oct 12, 12:50 AM
The Associated Press reports Indianapolis Colts RB Joseph Addai had 14 carries for 27 yards with a rushing touchdown Week 5. He also caught 10 passes for 53 receiving yards.
| Our view: Addai owners in PPR leagues have to be really excited about what he did on Sunday. They need to send a thank you to Donald Brown, because this RBBC is helping to keep Addai healthy and effective. |

Colts | Addai scores Week 3 Mon Sep 28, 02:32 AM
The Associated Press reports Indianapolis Colts RB Joseph Addai had 13 carries for 63 yards Week 3. He also caught three passes for eight receiving yards with a touchdown.
| Our view: Addai was showing good vision and burst on Sunday night, and this RBBC with rookie Donald Brown helps keep him fresh. |

Colts | Addai looking improved Thu Sep 10, 01:29 AM
John Oehser, of Examiner.com, reports Indianapolis Colts RB Joseph Addai may not have RB Donald Brown's breakaway ability, but Addai has shown this preseason a lot of the make you miss ability he had in 2006 and 2007. Addai will likely hold on to the starting job because he is versatile, can block, catch and run. Brown has shown good speed to the hole, and the vision to keep going and make a big play. However, he likely will not start at any point this season.
| Our view: It's good to hear that Addai is looking better than ever, but the truth of the matter is he gets banged up way too often. Brown could get into the starting lineup with an Addai injury, and he's so talented he might not give that job back even when Addai comes back. If both backs stay healthy all season it will only mean good things for this Colts offense. |

Colts | Plan to use some type of committee approach at running back Tue Aug 18, 02:15 PM
Paul Kuharsky, of ESPN.com, reports Indianapolis Colts rookie RB Donald Brown looked very good in the team's preseason opener, but it is too early to tell how much action he will pull away from starting RB Joseph Addai. Head coach Jim Caldwell said a two-back system has always been part of what the team has done. 'It's been really effective. ... We anticipate the same thing will happen with the backs we have now,' Caldwell said. He went on to note the game plan will change week to week, as it comes down to who the team's opposition is. 'So our strategy changes on that a bit, but one thing we do know for sure is there will be some kind of rotation,' Caldwell said of his top two backs.

Colts | RB split will be situational Mon Aug 17, 01:17 PM
Paul Kuharsky, from ESPN.com, reports Colts coach Jim Caldwell was asked if there will be a formula for touches between Joseph Addai and Donald Brown. "It depends, week to week, it depends on who you're facing, what type of defensive structure you have to deal with," Caldwell said. "So our strategy changes on that a bit, but one thing we do know for sure is there will be some kind of rotation."
| Our view: Joseph Addai struggles to stay healthy, and if Donald Brown gets a chance to be the lone feature back he may seize the starting job away from Addai. This is still going to be a RBBC, as the Colts want to keep both backs fresh for what they hope is a playoff run. Addai could get most of the receptions out of the backfield, but when the team needs to grind out yards between the tackles and at the goalline then Donald Brown could be the back they turn to. |

Colts | Rotation at RB Thu Aug 13, 12:01 PM
Matt Dollinger, of Colts.com, reports that head coach Jim Caldwell confirmed that the team will use a rotation at running back. "When (Edgerrin James) was here, Dominic (Rhodes) sort of helped him with that part of the game, and Joseph and 'Dom' teamed together and worked well. We anticipate the same thing will happen with the backs we have present as well. It depends on who you face and the type of defensive structure that you have to deal with," Caldwell said. "But one thing we know for sure is there will be some type of rotation."
| Our view: There should be enough to go around for Addai to be a solid RB2 and Brown to be a solid flex, but if Addai gets dinged (as he usually does), we think Brown could seize a bigger part of the backfield and become the more valuable Colts back for the remainder of the season. |

Colts | Addai rounding back into form Sun Aug 9, 10:14 PM
Tom James, from the Tribune Star, reports running back Joseph Addai appears to be fine after undergoing minor knee surgery earlier this spring. Addai saw limited work during the team's spring organized team activities or minicamps, but he's held up well during the first four days of training camp. "He looks good. Joseph is coming along well. He's moving it and his quickness is where it's been in terms of overall quickness. He's getting a little bit [better] every day. I think he's feeling comfortable after his time off," Colts head coach Jim Caldwell said.
| Our view: Addai is best used when in a RBBC, and he will face tough competition for the starting job from rookie Donald Brown. The Colts want to keep both backs fresh for what they hope is a Super Bowl run and fantasy owners need to take note. This RBBC could be split 50/50 and if Brown scores more touchdowns than Addai he could be the leading fantasy RB on the team. |

Colts | Addai limited in practice, helping out Brown Tue Aug 4, 10:15 PM
IndyFootballReport.com notes RB Joseph Addai, who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in the offseason, is currently working on a one-practice-a-day basis. Addai has spent some time in training camp answering questions and offering advice. The player receiving the tutoring? RB Donald Brown. When asked about the concept of assisting a player with which he also is competing, Addai this week said that's the wrong way to view the situation. Yes, Addai said, there is competition. And yes, he wants to be the starting running back. But they're also teammates and Addai said, "Regardless of what you do, it's a competition. If you're asking me, 'What kind of relationship?' Everybody wants to play, no matter what, but the biggest thing is helping each other out. The ultimate goal is to win games."
| Our view: It's good to hear that Addai is helping out Donald Brown and there is a chance that Brown will be the starting RB at some point during his rookie season. Addai is known to get dinged up quite a bit, and Brown proved last year at UCONN that he could be a bellcow running back. The Colts have Addai insurance in Donald Brown, and it may not be long before the learner becomes the master. |

Colts | Addai starting, healthy and motivated Tue Aug 4, 08:38 PM
Mike Chappell, of The Indianapolis Star, reports Indianapolis Colts RBs Joseph Addai and rookie Donald Brown will handle the primary workload at running back in 2009.
| Our view: However, Addai is the team's starting running back despite drafting Brown in the first round this year. Addai is healthy after having offseason surgery on his right knee and is motivated by the team taking Brown. Brown will be given every chance to earn significant playing time. He has game-breaking talent the team would like to work in. |

Colts | Team is ready to run Wed Jun 17, 10:26 PM
Colts C Jeff Saturday knows that a team must have balance to make a championship run. "You can fall in love watching (Manning) throw it around and think you can win the world that way," Saturday said during the Colts' recent three-day mandatory 2009 mini-camp at the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center. "But the bottom line is we've got to run the football if we're going to win. It's going to be better."
| Our view: The Colts are working hard to make their run game better in 2009. Last season the Colts ranked 31st in rushing yards per game with a meager 79.6 average. In the 1st round of the 2009 NFL Draft they selected the NCAA 2008 rushing leader Donald Brown, and he is expected to work well in a RBBC with Joseph Addai. Many consider Addai to be the lead back because his experience, but remember that he's had trouble staying healthy during his entire NFL career and Brown could be the feature RB for the Colts sooner rather than later. |

Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports Indianapolis Colts RB Joseph Addai (knee) said he recently underwent surgery to clean debris from his knee.
| Our view: He said the rehab from the surgery is going well. He is expected to be fully recovered by the start of training camp. |
