Cowboys | Javarris Williams signed     Mon Aug 6, 12:12 PM

The Dallas Cowboys signed free-agent RB Javarris Williams Monday, Aug. 6. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Williams signing is not a good sign for Phillip Tanner. Ed Wesley and Lance Dunbar are competing for the RB3 spot behind Demarco Murray and Felix Jones. Tanner is undergoing surgery for a hand injury suffered in camp. He could be on the roster bubble if he doesn't come back quickly. Most feel he's going to be out of action at least two weeks.

Texans | Javarris Williams waived    Mon Jun 4, 01:48 PM

The Houston Texans have waived RB Javarris Williams.

Footballguys view: With the addition of free agent RB Justin Forsett it made Williams expendable. Williams has bounced around the league in four years and may find it difficult to find a new team.

Footballguys view: Dickerson was a deep dynasty sleeper because of his size/speed combination, but the Texans instead kept Bryant Johnson.

Chiefs | Several expected to compete for No. 3 RB job    Sat May 29, 04:24 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RBs Kolby Smith, Javarris Williams, Jackie Battle and Kestahn Moore are expected to compete for the team's No. 3 running back job if they want a traditional runner to hold the position, reports Josh Looney, of KCChiefs.com. WR Dexter McCluster and FB Tim Castille could also be in contention for the job if the team wants a player than can play multiple positions as their third back.

Footballguys view: Dexter McCluster is going to be an all-purpose player for the Chiefs. Even though he's not the biggest running back he is a willing inside runner. Last season for Ole Miss he had four straight 100-yard rushing games, including a 282-yard performance against Tennessee. While he's expected to play the 'Wes Welker' role for the Chiefs, we wouldn't be surprised if he lined up in the backfield with Jamaal Charles on some passing downs.

Chiefs | J. Williams signed to active roster    Sat Dec 5, 06:22 PM

Josh Looney, of KCChiefs.com, reports the Kansas City Chiefs have signed practice squad RB Javarris Williams to their active roster. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: With Kolby Smith on Injured Reserve the Chiefs were looking to add some running back depth. We saw Williams at the Shrine Game practices earlier this year in Houston, and the power back from Tennessee State flashed some ability. He's a grinder who makes his living between the tackles, and isn't much of a threat to break a run outside or break a long one. Williams runs with a low center of gravity and is hard to bring down because of his leg drive. So long as Jamaal Charles is healthy we're not expecting much out of Javarris Williams.

Chiefs | Seven signed to practice squad    Sun Sep 6, 07:57 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs announced they have re-signed free agents CB Jackie Bates, TE Tom Crabtree, DE Dion Gales, DE Robert Greenwood, OG Darryl Harris, RB Javarris Williams and WR Rodney Wright to their practice squad.

Footballguys view: Javarris Williams was not a surprise addition to their practice squad. He's not the quickest or fastest RB, but he is very instinctive, and runs with good balance, vision, and power.

Chiefs | Zach Thomas, Ashley Lelie amongst players released    Sat Sep 5, 07:04 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs released CB Jackie Bates, TE Tom Crabtree, DE Dion Gales, DE Robert Greenwood, G Darryl Harris, WR Taurus Johnson, WR Ashley Lelie, DT Derek Lokey, S Bernard Pollard, S Ricky Price, LB Zach Thomas, RB Javarris Williams and WR Rodney Wright.

Footballguys view: The rookie receiver from South Florida, Taurus Johnson, would make for a good developmental player to add to the practice squad. He has good size, and ball tracking ability, but he needs to become a more consistent player. Zach Thomas may be considering retirement now that he's been released. Javarris Williams runs with good power, a low center of gravity, and picks up his feet properly when running through trash at the line of scrimmage. He's not very fast, and lacks a good initial burst, but the Chiefs may like his potential as a short-yardage runner enough to keep him around on the practice squad.

Chiefs | Williams, Toomer not likely to make final 53    Thu Aug 27, 08:26 PM

Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports that Chiefs RB Javarris Williams hasn't shown enough in camp to make the final roster. He also reports that it's close, but he has Mark Bradley and Quintin Lawrence making the team ahead of veteran Amani Toomer at WR.

Chiefs | Smith could begin season on PUP    Sat Jul 25, 06:25 PM

Michael Ash, of Warpaint Illustrated, reports that RB Kolby Smith is still recovering from a knee injury and could begin the season on the PUP.

Footballguys view: That would open a roster spot for rookie Javarris Williams or third-year pro Jackie Battle. With no long-term answer at RB on the roster, either player could figure into the team's future plans at RB with a good season.

Chiefs | J. Williams signed     Thu Jul 23, 03:56 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced they signed seventh-round draft choice seventh-round draft choice RB Javarris Williams. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Williams is a compact, efficient powerful runner who could be decent running out of the shotgun sets the Chiefs will often run. If he impresses, he might get some long-term opportunity because Larry Johnson probably won't be a Chief for much longer than this season, and Jamaal Charles is not an everydown back.

Chiefs | Rookie RB Williams still adjusting to the playbook    Sun Jun 28, 02:06 PM

Mike Organ, from the Nashville Tennessean, reports Chiefs rookie Javarris Williams is finding that one of the biggest challenges is learning an NFL playbook, a feat that feels a little like trying to memorize a phone book.

Footballguys view: Coming out of Tennessee State Williams was known as a power RB that did most of his damage between the tackles. He's unproven as a receiver out of the backfield and will have to have a great training camp just to make the final roster. If the Chiefs like what they see he could earn a spot to develop on their practice squad.
