"Coming off an injury, you could get out of shape with a bad body," Vickerson said. "A lot of guys, especially D-tackles, would come back way over-heavy, sloppy, bad weight. I've had that before, and I didn't want that again."

The Denver Broncos will be missing several defensive bodies in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals. DT Marcus Thomas (shoulder), D.J. Williams (elbow) and DT Ty Warren (triceps) are locks to be inactive. DL Elvis Dumervil (shoulder) said he won't play for the first few weeks, and CB Champ Bailey (hamstring) might also be out. If Bailey can't play, CB Cassius Vaughn will likely be the starting left cornerback, with CB Jonathan Wilhite playing the slot in nickel packages. DLs Derrick Harvey, Jason Hunter and Robert Ayers will likely rotate if Dumervil can't suit up.
