Buccaneers | Pursuing Brian Urlacher?    Wed Sep 17, 03:32 AM

With an injury to LB Mason Foster, rumors have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pursuing free agent LB Brian Urlacher (Bears). Urlacher resigned Tuesday, Sept. 16, from his Fox Sports 1 analysis job, fueling the speculation. Sources say a signing, if one happens at all, would not occur this week.

Footballguys view: Alright Lovie, let's not get crazy here. Urlacher played most of his career with the Chicago Bears under new Bucs head coach Lovie Smith. With Foster injured, the team has a need at the linebacker position but Urlacher is not the same player he used to be. Urlacher hasn't played since 2012, and getting decent production from him would be nearly impossible. We'll see if the Bucs make a move here.

Buccaneers | Brian Urlacher to visit training camp     Fri Jan 31, 01:10 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith invited retired LB Brian Urlacher to visit training camp. 'Brian is a family member for life,' Smith said. 'I've had the privilege to be around a lot of great players, any great player I've been around is always welcome wherever I am. We're trying to build something here football-wise, and I'm going to call on the Brian Urlachers of the world, and of course all our former Bucs around here. Derrick Brooks will tell you I've been in his ear quite a bit, got a chance to text with John Lynch yesterday... anytime you can have players around your current roster that have been through our system and know what it takes, it's a good thing. I will always be inviting any old player that I've been around.'

'If I could have picked a spot, it would have been Dallas,' Urlacher said. '(The Cowboys) run our defense. They took our D-coordinator (Rod Marinelli). That would have been ideal.   NFL | Brian Urlacher retires    Wed May 22, 11:16 AM

Free-agent MLB Brian Urlacher (Bears) retired after 13 seasons.

Footballguys view: Urlacher wasn't getting any interest on the open market and instead decided to hang up his cleats. A first ballot Hall of Fame linebacker Urlacher was named to eight Pro Bowls during his career. Perhaps Urlacher could get some interest if any Middle Linebackers get hurt during training camp. He's not the same player he used to be but some team might take show some interest if they have to.

Vikings | Not pursuing Brian Urlacher    Wed May 15, 09:52 AM

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said the team isn't pursuing free-agent MLB Brian Urlacher (Bears) right now. They plan to give LB Erin Henderson every opportunity to win the middle linebacker job. 'Brian has been a great player in our league for a long, long time,' Frazier said. 'He was a thorn in our side for many years. At this point we want to look at the guys on our roster, give them a chance to compete for the middle linebacker position then we'll see where it takes us.'

Footballguys view: With both the Broncos and Vikings uninterested in Urlacher he'll have to wait longer to find a new home. We could get to training camp before Urlacher gets an opportunity.

Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman indicated the team will not pursue free-agent LB Brian Urlacher (Bears) at this point but did not rule out the possibility later in the offseason.

Vikings | Brian Urlacher could be option    Sun Apr 28, 02:28 PM

The Minnesota Vikings could still consider pursuing free-agent LB Brian Urlacher (Bears) because they did not take a middle linebacker in the early rounds of the draft.

Footballguys view: Urlacher might not have much left, but the NFC North has a history of teams getting something out of a former cornerstone for a rival on their way out of the league. Urlacher would go back to having marginal IDP value if he can land in Minnesota.

Free-agent LB Brian Urlacher (Bears) isn't expected to sign with a new team any time soon, and he wants to play for a contender, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Footballguys view: Most older veterans who don't have a Super Bowl ring will be looking to join a contender when on the open market. Urlacher could always re-sign with the Bears if he doesn't find a deal he likes as a free agent.

The Chicago Bears have announced they were not able to re-sign free-agent LB Brian Urlacher and will be heading in a different direction.

Footballguys view: The end of an era in Chicago today. Urlacher made $7.5MM last year and it was speculated the Bears didn't offer him anything more than $2MM as a free agent. He's still an effective run stuffer because of his instincts and football intelligence but he's not as quick in pass protection. We'll see if any other teams are interested in adding the future Hall of Fame LB.

However, the apparent feeling within the organization is that Urlacher remains an important piece on defense and worthy of another contract with the club.
