Broncos | Quanterus Smith failed physical    Tue Apr 28, 01:16 PM

Updating a previous item, Denver Broncos DE Quanterus Smith (knee) was waived Tuesday, April 28, after a failed physical on his left knee. Smith played in 15 games last year and had 11 tackles and zero sacks.

Footballguys view: Smith's knee problems date back to 2012 when he was leading the NCAA in sacks before his injury. Those problems lingered through his entire career with the Broncos, and it will prevent other teams from having a ton of interest in the pass-rusher.

Broncos | Quanterus Smith waived    Tue Apr 28, 10:27 AM

Denver Broncos DE Quanterus Smith was waived Tuesday, April 28, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Smith just couldn't stay healthy during his brief time with the Broncos. A fifth-round pick in 2013, Smith was an interesting developmental prospect. He led the NCAA in sacks during his 2012 season at Western Kentucky, but a knee injury cut his season short. That knee injury kept him out of action in 2013 as a rookie with the Broncos, and it slowed him down in 2014 as well.

Broncos | Quanterus Smith to IR    Sun Jan 11, 07:33 AM

The Denver Broncos placed DE Quanterus Smith (knee) on injured reserve Saturday, Jan. 10. To fill the roster spot, the team promoted LB Shaquil Barrett to the acrive roster.

Footballguys view: It's the same knee that Smith injured in his final season of college at Western Kentucky (2012). Smith missed his rookie season with this injury, and now he's going to have another recovery period to go through. He had 12 sacks in 2012, including three against Alabama, but Smith may never be the pass-rusher the Broncos envisioned when they selected him as a sleeper pick in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL draft.

Broncos | Quanterus Smith impressing coaches and players    Sun Aug 17, 02:21 AM

Denver Broncos DE Quanterus Smith, who missed all of last season due to injury, has impressed coaches with his ability to come off the edge of the line and hamper offenses. It has impressed veterans like DE DeMarcus Ware, who said 'When you think about the guy who has all the talent and is really a great player, that's what I think of with Quanterus.'

Footballguys view: Smith is a terrific stash in deep IDP dynasty or sack-heavy IDP dynasty leagues. He abused San Diego Chargers starting RT and high first-round pick DJ Fluker famously in college.

Broncos | Quanterus Smith seeing more opportunities    Fri Jun 13, 12:54 PM

Denver Broncos DE Quanterus Smith has had more opportunities in practice with LB Von Miller (knee) limited in workouts. Smith has displayed good speed around the edge, and he's developing multiple moves beyond just ones based on his speed. Smith appears to be back after being limited by a knee injury last year during training camp.

Footballguys view: Smith is coming back from the 2012 knee injury he suffered in college at Western Kentucky. At the time of the injury, Smith was leading the NCAA in sacks with 12.5. If healthy, Smith could give the team a part-time pass-rusher on the outside.

Broncos | Injury updates    Mon May 12, 05:14 PM

Denver Broncos LB Lerentee McCray (ankle) and DE Quanterus Smith (knee) are both healthy after spending last season on Injured Reserve, according to Broncos general manager John Elway. McCray and Smith have participated in the team's offseason program and will compete for roster spots.

Footballguys view: Two players to watch out for here. Smith is the main player to highlight. He was leading the FBS in sacks when a knee injury cut his final season at Western Kentucky short. Smith was best remembered for having three sacks against Alabama in 2012.

Broncos | Five cut    Sat Aug 31, 03:44 PM

The Denver Broncos waived OT Vinston Painter, OG C.J. Davis, OG Philip Blake and DE Jeremy Beal. DE Quanterus Smith (knee) was placed on Injured Reserve.

Footballguys view: Smith was coming back from the ACL injury he sustained last year at Western Kentucky. He didn't look like his speed and burst was completely back. Losing Smith is losing another potential pass-rusher for the Broncos defense. They are short handed at the position with the loss of Von Miller for the first six weeks of the season.

Broncos | Quanterus Smith expected to be ready    Sun Jul 21, 09:52 PM

Denver Broncos DE Quanterus Smith (knee) said he will be ready for the start of training camp. He was limited in the team's offseason program, as he recovers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Footballguys view: Getting Smith on the field would be a huge boost for the Broncos. Smith was a standout pass rusher at Western Kentucky, racking up a three sack game against Alabama. He's raw but has the speed and edge bending skills to create outside pressure. The team is looking for more pass rush help after losing Elvis Dumervil (Ravens) in free agency.

Broncos | Quanterus Smith might be eased in    Sun Jul 7, 04:11 PM

Denver Broncos rookie DE Quanterus Smith (Western Kentucky) might be eased back into to action at training camp as he recovers from a knee injury he suffered last year.

Footballguys view: Smith will be part of the puzzle to the Broncos pass rush as they move on without Elvis Dumervil (Ravens). He's a talented edge rusher who had big games against the best competition. In a game against Alabama in 2012 Smith had three sacks, two against Chargers first-round pick D.J. Fluker. The 2012 Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year was leading the NCAA in sacks in 2012 (12.5) before missing the final two games of the year with a knee injury.

Broncos | Sign two draft picks    Fri May 10, 03:08 PM

The Denver Broncos signed both WR Tavarres King and DE Quanterus Smith to four-year deals Friday, May 10. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: King is a linear athlete who can get on top of the defense in a hurry. He is a deep threat with good long speed. Eric Decker is a free agent after this year so King may have a bigger role in the future if the team doesn't keep Decker in 2014. Smith is an edge rusher who can bend around the corner to get to the quarterback.

Broncos | Quanterus Smith expects to be ready for camp    Sun May 5, 12:17 PM

Denver Broncos DE Quanterus Smith (knee) said he expects to be able to full participate once training camp begins.

Footballguys view: Smith will be part of the pass rushing rotations on the defensive line. He's known to get his sacks in bunches and went seven games last year without recording one. However, he had three sacks against Alabama and was dominating Chargers first-round OT D.J. Fluker. He's a one dimensional speed rusher but has intriguing upside in the NFL.
