Patriots | Troy Niklas let go    Fri Jul 27, 04:32 PM

New England Patriots TE Troy Niklas was released Friday, July 27, according to a source. The team also signed free-agent WR Paul Turner (Saints) to an undisclosed contract.

Footballguys view: Niklas was once a Cardinals second-round pick but never joined the Notre Dame tight end success story list. Dwayne Allen is safer as the #2 tight end, with second-year project Jacob Hollister maybe the better fantasy play if Rob Gronkowski goes down.

Patriots | Troy Niklas joins Patriots    Wed Apr 4, 04:03 PM

Free-agent TE Troy Niklas (Cardinals) agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the New England Patriots Wednesday, April 4, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Niklas was once a second-round pick, but failed to develop in Arizona. He could be an excellent blocking complement to Rob Gronkowski with some receiving ability, and if Gronkowski misses time, he'll be on our fantasy radar.

Patriots | Two players visit Patriots     Mon Apr 2, 05:00 PM

Free-agents WR Jordan Matthews (Bills) and TE Troy Niklas (Cardinals) are visiting the New England Patriots Monday, April 2, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Both are former second-round picks that are coming off of disappointing seasons. Matthews had a brighter future earlier in his career, but was out of the Eagles plans when they traded him and Matthews was hurt and didn't contribute much in Buffalo. Niklas was part of the long line of Notre Dame tight ends to go to the NFL, but injuries and lack of development kept him from delivering on the investment.

Cardinals | Arizona injury report for Week 2    Fri Sep 15, 05:59 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (quadriceps), OT D.J. Humphries (knee) and OG Mike Iupati (triceps) did not practice Friday, Sept. 15, and is out for Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts. LB Deone Bucannon (ankle) was limited in practice and is doubtful, while TE Troy Niklas (hip) and DE Robert Nkemdiche (calf) were limited and are listed as questionable. TE Jermaine Gresham (ribs) did not practice and is questionable, while LB Karlos Dansby (shin) practiced in full and is longer on the injury report.

Footballguys view: The offensive line is going to miss Iupati in the run game and Brown's absence will hamper the deep passing game against the Colts. The Cardinals offense should still have success if the Colts defense plays the way it did against the Rams last week.

Cardinals | Arizona still believes in Troy Niklas    Sun May 21, 10:10 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Troy Niklas can still fulfill his potential if he can just stay healthy, head coach Bruce Arians said.

Footballguys view: With eight career catches in three years, the second-round pick (2014) out of Notre Dame shouldn't be seen as any sort of sleeper...even in the deepest of deep leagues.

Cardinals | Troy Niklas practices with first team    Tue Aug 16, 04:52 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Troy Niklas is practicing with the first-team offense Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Footballguys view: Recent reports indicate Niklas is pushing Germaine Gresham and Darren Fells for the starting job. It only makes sense that he's getting first-team reps. Even if Niklas wins the starting job, the Cardinals TE position is not going to be a fantasy gold mine. Head coach Bruce Arians rarely uses the position as a receiving threat.

Cardinals | Troy Niklas seeing more time    Mon Nov 2, 07:46 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Troy Niklas, who had two catches for 12 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 8 win over the Cleveland Browns, has been seeing more playing time with TE Darren Fells (shoulder) injured. However, most of Niklas' time on the field has been used as a blocker.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals are using their tight ends a bit more this year, but that's not locking any of them into a fantasy lineup. In super deep leagues, then add Niklas if he's out there due to his recent production.
