Dolphins | Six players signed to futures contract    Thu Jan 7, 11:52 AM

Omar Kelly, of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, reports the Miami Dolphins have signed SS Nate Ness, TE John Nalbone, WR Julius Pruitt, WR Taurus Johnson, OG Ray Feinga and RB Tristan Davis to futures contracts. The contracts are two-year deals but the financial terms were not disclosed. All six players finished the season on the Dolphins' practice squad.

Footballguys view: The player to watch here is Taurus Johnson, the 2009 rookie from USF. We saw Johnson down at the Shrine Game in Houston back in January of '09 and came away impressed with his frame and ability to come back to the football. He's likely not a big play threat, but a solid possession wide receiver with the strength to break arm tackles and pick up yards after the catch.

Dolphins | T. Johnson signed    Tue Dec 1, 03:22 PM

Mike Berardino, of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, reports the Miami Dolphins signed free-agent WR Taurus Johnson (Lions) to their practice squad Tuesday, Dec. 1. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Johnson has good hands and build up speed, but needs to work on becoming a better route runner. We saw Johnson at the Shrine game down in Houston earlier this year, and were impressed by his consistency and strength when hauling in a contested pass.

Saints | Three wide receivers worked out    Tue Nov 17, 07:50 PM

Adam Caplan, of Scout.com, reports the New Orleans Saints have worked out free-agent WR Aaron Kelly (Falcons), free-agent WR Nick Moore (Vikings) and free-agent WR Taurus Johnson (Lions).

Footballguys view: Lance Moore's injury is lingering, so the Saints are looking for some help here. Yes, Nick Moore is Lance's brother, but he doesn't have the same type of game. Nick Moore once caught 20 passes in a game against Michigan, but he doesn't have the consistent hands that NFL teams desire. Aaron Kelly is a big target, but still raw as a route runner. His potential is huge if he could ever get the time to develop as a pro. Taurus Johnson might be the best receiver out of this group. He can get into his routes quickly, and changes direction without losing much speed. He can get separation out of his routes, but he is a little slender and can be pushed around off the line of scrimmage.

Chiefs | Zach Thomas, Ashley Lelie amongst players released    Sat Sep 5, 07:04 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs released CB Jackie Bates, TE Tom Crabtree, DE Dion Gales, DE Robert Greenwood, G Darryl Harris, WR Taurus Johnson, WR Ashley Lelie, DT Derek Lokey, S Bernard Pollard, S Ricky Price, LB Zach Thomas, RB Javarris Williams and WR Rodney Wright.

Footballguys view: The rookie receiver from South Florida, Taurus Johnson, would make for a good developmental player to add to the practice squad. He has good size, and ball tracking ability, but he needs to become a more consistent player. Zach Thomas may be considering retirement now that he's been released. Javarris Williams runs with good power, a low center of gravity, and picks up his feet properly when running through trash at the line of scrimmage. He's not very fast, and lacks a good initial burst, but the Chiefs may like his potential as a short-yardage runner enough to keep him around on the practice squad.

Chiefs | Undrafted rookie free agents signed    Fri May 8, 01:14 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the signing of undrafted rookie free-agents CB Jackie Bates (Hampton), TE Tom Crabtree (Miami, OH), CB Londen Fryar (Western Michigan), DE Dion Gales (Troy State), OT Cameron Goldberg (Duke), DE Robert Greenwood (Alabama), OG Darryl Harris (Mississippi), WR Taurus Johnson (South Florida), LB Corey Smith (Cincinnati) and LB Pierre Walters (Eastern Illinois). Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: There's two interesting guys to watch here. Taurus Johnson is a speedy WR that is very raw as a route runner. He does have natural talent and could develop into a deep threat for the Chiefs. Londen Fryar is the son of former NFL great Irving Fryar and flashed some playmaking ability while at the Texas Vs The Nation Game.
