Minnesota Vikings CB Chris Cook (hip) and S Jamarca Sanford (groin) could play in Week 9 if they do enough in practice Friday, Nov. 1, to convince the coaching staff. 'If they were cleared tomorrow, definitely (they could play),' head coach Leslie Frazier said. 'But if Chris and Jamarca couldn't go, it really thins us out. It's a little scary when you start getting into your depth this early in the season.' CBs Xavier Rhodes, Marcus Sherels or A.J. Jefferson would start at right cornerback if Cook can't play.

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson continued to see the first rep on kick returns, ahead of WR Joe Webb and CBs A.J. Jefferson, Josh Robinson and Marcus Sherels. 'I think (Patterson is) more comfortable catching kickoffs right now than punts, like a lot of young guys,' special teams coordinator Mike Priefer said Wednesday, June 19. 'But we're making progress in both phases.' Priefer said if the season were starting right now, Sherels would be the team's punt returner.

The Arizona Cardinals have plenty of depth at the cornerback position, so it will be interesting to see who stays and who goes. CB Patrick Peterson is an unquestioned starter, but it is uncertain who will start opposite him. CB William Gay is considered a good fit to replace CB Richard Marshall (Dolphins) in the hybrid/cornerback role. That leaves CB Michael Adams, Jamell Fleming, A.J. Jefferson and Greg Toler to duke it out for a meaningful role.
