Jaguars | Malik Jackson likely to get cut in offseason    Tue Jan 8, 12:20 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars DL Malik Jackson expects to be released this spring, halfway through the six-year, $85.5 million contract he signed in March of 2016, accoring to Daniel Popper of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Jackson is on the books through the 2021 season. He does have a cap hit in 2019 of $15 million with only $4 million remaining in dead money. Releasing Jackson will clear $11 million in cap space for a Jaguars team that has a ton of work to do in the offseason.

Jaguars | Coach happy with Malik Jackson's weight    Wed Aug 3, 02:59 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars DT Malik Jackson lost 13 pounds between the end of offseason workouts and training camp, and defensive coordinator Todd Wash is happy with Jackson's current weight.

Footballguys view: Jackson was a highly-disruptive player for the Broncos last year--especially in Super Bowl 50. We should see him carry that momentum over to this season with his new team.

Jaguars | Malik Jackson trims down    Sat Jul 30, 09:01 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars DT Malik Jackson was asked to improve his cardio and drop some weight following OTAs, and he reported to training camp 12 pounds lighter. 'I want them to know I am who they thought I am,' Jackson said. 'This was the first step in building that relationship. They trusted me to go back and do those things, so they're excited about that now.'

Footballguys view: Jackson was a big free agent prize for the Jaguars. He seemed to get better and better each year with the Broncos. We'll see if Jackson can continue to improve and greatly benefit the Jaguars pass rush.

Jaguars | Malik Jackson enjoying new role    Sat May 28, 12:40 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars DT Malik Jackson said he is enjoying the freedom he has in head coach Gus Bradley's defense that relies on the three-technique tackle providing constant interior pressure.

Footballguys view: After paying Jackson a $85 million contract, the Jaguars are going to let him loose against the passer. He was a strong edge rusher for the Broncos last year, but his six sacks in 2015 could be doubled this year with his new team.

Bears | Chicago to try out Marquis Jackson    Sun May 15, 03:00 AM

Free-agent DL Marquis Jackson, the brother of Jacksonville Jaguars DT Malik Jackson, is trying out with the Chicago Bears this weekend.

Footballguys view: Marquis Jackson played in the Arena League for the Portland Thunder. He gets off the line quickly and has the hustle to make plays as a pass-rusher. Like Malik, Marquis has a large wingspan that helps him make up ground quickly. He's a longshot, but Bears coach John Fox worked with Malik for years when the two were with the Denver Broncos. Fox will know if he can get the best out of Marquis.

Jaguars | Olivier Vernon still a target     Tue Mar 8, 04:01 PM

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent DE Olivier Vernon is still expected to be pursued by the Jacksonville Jaguars despite Denver Broncos impending free-agent DE Malik Jackson agreeing to a deal Tuesday, March 8. The Jaguars are also expected to pursue a top free-agent cornerback or safety.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars still have plenty of money, even after guaranteeing Jackson $42 million with his new deal. They'll monitor Vernon's status, but going in a different direction is always a possibility.

Jaguars | Malik Jackson has agreement with Jags    Tue Mar 8, 02:35 PM

Updating previous reports, Denver Broncos impending free-agent DT Malik Jackson has a six-year, $90 million deal in place with the Jacksonville Jaguars that would include $42 million guaranteed, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Wow. The money is getting crazy, and free agency isn't even officially started. Jackson led the Broncos DL with 11 disrupted dropbacks in 2015. He was an ascending talent with the length, hustle and strength to get after the quarterback.

Jaguars | Jags close to landing Malik Jackson    Tue Mar 8, 01:03 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars are close to agreeing on a deal with Denver Broncos impending free-agent DT Malik Jackson, according to sources.

Giants | Have interest in Malik Jackson    Mon Mar 7, 11:26 AM

The New York Giants have interest in Denver Broncos impending free-agent DT Malik Jackson.

Footballguys view: Get in line. The Giants may be behind the Jaguars, Bears and Raiders when it comes to interest in Jackson. He's going to be one of the highest paid free agents this offseason, and Jackson could get a new contract that pays him $14 million per year.

Broncos | Possible replacements for free agents    Wed Mar 2, 03:43 PM

Mississippi DE Robert Nkemdiche, Mississippi State DL Chris D. Jones and Baylor DL Andrew Billings are three options that could replace Denver Broncos impending free-agent DE Malik Jackson, according to ESPN's Todd McShay. McShay has the Broncos taking Indiana OT Jason Spriggs in his latest mock draft, who could replace impending free-agent OT Ryan Harris.

Footballguys view: All of them, despite being very good, will lack Jackson's experience. Whether they can step in immediately or not is a bit of a gamble, but these are the things a Super Bowl winning team has to deal with. Their free agents will have the opportunity to make money elsewhere, and the Broncos will need to adjust.

Broncos | Denver has $3.3 million in unused cap space    Thu Feb 25, 12:53 PM

The Denver Broncos will have over $3.3 million in unused 2015 salary cap space that will spill over into this year, according to data released by the NFL Players Association. It's around the league median in carryover space this year. Fourteen teams will have a lower amount of cap space than the Broncos. The Broncos are trying to re-sign impending free-agent LB Von Miller, QB Brock Osweiler and DE Malik Jackson.

Footballguys view: It doesn't seem like much, but every little bit helps as they try to resign both critical pieces (Jackson, Miller) and potential future upside (Osweiler).

Broncos | Denver made offer to Malik Jackson    Thu Feb 25, 01:27 AM

Denver Broncos impending free-agent DE Malik Jackson received an offer in the range of $10 million per season from the team. He is believed to be seeking $12 million per year. The two sides are believed to be negotiating in Denver, as Jackson's agent, general manager John Elway and the team's contract negotiator were each seen checking into the same Denver hotel Wednesday, Feb. 24.

Footballguys view: Along with Von Miller, Jackson is a big piece to the front seven. While many missed him due to DeMarcus Ware and Miller's performances in the Super Bowl, Jackson was also a big factor. They will want to do what they can to keep him.

Bears | Malik Jackson may be too expensive    Wed Feb 24, 09:30 PM

Denver Broncos impending free-agent DE Malik Jackson likely will be a target for the Chicago Bears if he hits the free-agent market, but he may be too expensive for them since it is believed he is looking for $12 million per season in his new contract.

Jaguars | Jacksonville covets Malik Jackson    Wed Feb 24, 01:21 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars cover Denver Broncos impending free-agent DE Malik Jackson, and he is expected to command anywhere from $11 million to $14 million per year on the open market. The Jaguars have an NFL-most $79.8 million in available cap space.

Footballguys view: The Jags can pay whatever they want in free agency, but that doesn't mean that they'll get everyone they way. The offense was the strength of the team in 2015, so investment in players like Jackson makes a lot of sense.

Denver Broncos impending free-agent DE Malik Jackson and the organization have only started to engage in contract discussions. He is expected to command $11 million to $14 million per year on the open market.

Footballguys view: Jackson is a three-down defender who can create valuable interior pressure on the quarterback and hold up well at the point of attack in the run game. He can play in 3-4 and 4-3 schemes and will get paid handsomely, whether by Denver or another team.

Broncos | Von Miller biggest free agent    Wed Jan 27, 04:26 PM

Denver Broncos impending free-agent LB Von Miller figures to be at the top of the Broncos' priority list this offseason, especially coming off a dominating performance in the AFC Championship. Denver's other big-name impending free agents on defense include DE Malik Jackson and LB Danny Trevathan.

Footballguys view: We're expecting Miller to get the franchise tag when possible. Then, the Broncos would have until mid-July to get a long-term contract done with Miller. With his play in the postseason, Miller is in line to be the next $100 million linebacker.
