Footballguys view: The Colts are doing their due diligence as they try to find some options while Anthony Gonzalez is out with injury.

Redskins | Hackett impresses in scrimmage    Tue Aug 11, 12:09 PM

Gary Fitzgerald, of Redskins.com, reports that WR D.J. Hackett impressed observers during the Saturday, August 8 scrimmage. Hackett caught two passes. Fitzgerald writes that Hackett is familiar with head coach Jim Zorn's system from the time the two spent together in Seattle. "Most of it is the same, but the depth of the routes and the splits are different," Hackett said. Zorn talked about what he likes in Hackett's game. "What I like about D.J. is that he is kind of deceptive," Zorn said. "People think he is not running fast, and then all of a sudden he is getting behind people. He has deceptive speed and he has good hands. He knows our system."

Footballguys view: There's some question as to whether Hackett can make the team as the fifth receiver because the Redskins will expect that player to contribute on special teams, which is not Hackett's forte. Zorn left the door open saying, "If (Hackett) excels at the wide receiver position, I cannot give that up."

Redskins | Hackett signs    Wed Aug 5, 11:11 AM

The Associated Press reports the Washington Redskins have signed free-agent WR D.J. Hackett (Panthers). Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Hackett was at practice Wednesday, Aug. 5.

Footballguys view: Hackett knows Jim Zorn's offense from his time with the Seahawks, so he has a chance to stick as the #5 WR.

Chiefs | Three veteran receivers work out Monday    Mon Aug 3, 08:56 PM

Adam Teicher, of The Kansas City Star, reports the Kansas City Chiefs worked out free-agent WRs D.J. Hackett (Panthers), David Terrell (Broncos), and Amani Toomer (Giants), Monday, Aug. 3.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs are apparently in the market for a veteran receiver. They signed Bobby Engram, formerly of the Seahawks, earlier this offseason but the rest of their receivers not named Dwayne Bowe are fairly inexperienced. Amani Toomer is out to prove that he still has NFL game left in his tank. D.J. Hackett has worked out for several teams this offseason, but has failed to sign on with anybody. David Terrell showed why he was done in Denver.

Lions | Hackett to work out Tuesday    Mon Jul 27, 03:01 PM

Jason La Canfora, of the NFL Network, reports the Detroit Lions will work out unrestricted free-agent WR D.J. Hackett (Panthers) Tuesday, July 28.

Footballguys view: The Lions traded WR Ronald Curry last week, so they could upgrade their defensive line - but that doesn't mean they aren't looking for more WR depth as well. Hackett has tried out for a few teams this offseason, but has not been offered a contract. He may have to wait until injuries hit in training camp before his phone starts ringing off the hook.

Ravens | Working receivers out on Friday, including Hackett    Mon Jul 20, 10:40 AM

Jason LaCanfora, of NFL Network, reports on his Twitter feed that the Ravens will work out some wide receivers on Friday, July 24, including DJ Hackett, according to a source.

Footballguys view: There was surprisingly little demand for Hackett on the free agent market last year, and since he was banged up most of the year for the Panthers, there was even less interest this year. Hackett was always been a playmaker when he got on the field for the Seahawks, and we wouldn't completely give up on him, especially if he signs on a team with opportunity at WR like the Ravens.

Buccaneers | Hackett says workout went well    Tue Jun 16, 03:54 PM

Charlie Campbell and Jim Flynn, of PewterReport.com, report unrestricted free-agent WR D.J. Hackett (Panthers) said his work out with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers went well but does not know if he will be signed.

Footballguys view: The Buccaneers have also been interested in veterans Drew Bennett, Marvin Harrison, and Plaxico Burress. Hackett and Bennett would most likely sign for the least amount of money and that may factor into the Bucs final decision.

Paul Tenorio, of The Washington Post, reports free-agent WR D.J. Hackett (Panthers) is scheduled to work out for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tuesday, June 16.

Footballguys view: The Buccaneers are looking for veteran help to strengthen their WR corps. They have taken a look at Drew Bennett in addition to Hackett, and are reportedly interested in Plaxico Burress and Marvin Harrison.

Redskins | Hackett signing on hold    Mon May 4, 03:09 PM

Jason La Canfora, of The Washington Post, reports the Washington Redskins' signing of unrestricted free-agent WR D.J. Hackett (Panthers) is on hold since he is not able to join the team this week because of a personal matter, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Both this and the Kelley Washington deal are on hold right now. Hackett is dealing with a personal matter, and Washington has a visit scheduled with the Ravens. We should know if these players sign at the beginning of next week.

Redskins | Exploring possibility of signing Washington, Hackett    Sun May 3, 08:23 PM

Gary Fitzgerald, of Redskins.com, reports the Washington Redskins are exploring the possibility of signing free-agent WR Kelley Washington (Patriots) and WR D.J. Hackett (Panthers). Both participated in the team's minicamp on a tryout basis.

Footballguys view: We passed along a report earlier from Jason LaConfora that stated the Redskins had extended contract offers to both Kelley Washington and D.J. Hackett. Kelley Washington has a visit with the Ravens later this week so no deal with him will be finalized until then. The Redskins wanted D.J. Hackett signed by Monday, but he has a personal matter that he is attending to so now his deal is on hold as well.

Redskins | Hackett and Washington offered contracts    Sun May 3, 02:51 PM

Jason LaConfora reports the Redskins have offered contracts to veteran free agent wide receivers Kelley Washington and D.J. Hackett, who participated in minicamp this weekend, according to a league source.

Footballguys view: Washington has a visit with Baltimore later this week, and will wait to make his decision until then. The depth chart behind Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle-El is wide open. The Redskins would like Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly to win the top spots behind their veteran duo, but injuries have hampered both young WRs to this point in their careers. Hackett is looking to get his career back on track after failing to make an impact in Carolina.
