Steelers | Steelers ink Hakeem Butler Wed May 17, 10:22 AM
Free-agent WR Hakeem Butler (XFL) signed an undisclosed contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday, May 16.
Footballguys view: Butler is a big-bodied wide receiver who could line up at tight end with some additional weight. We were intrigued by him in dynasty formats when the Cardinals made him a fourth-round pick out of Iowa State in the 2019 NFL draft. That was then, and this is now. Since getting drafted, Butler has bounced to four different NFL teams, two CFL teams, and most recently played for the Battlehawks of the XFL. His size makes him a decent red-zone threat, and the Steelers know how to harvest wide receiver talent. Once again, in crazy deep dynasty formats we'll keep an eye on him. |

Philadelphia Eagles WR Deontay Burnett, TE Hakeem Butler, S Blake Countess, DT Treyvon Hester, CB Lavert Hill, RB Elijah Holyfield, CB Jameson Houston, DE Matt Leo and DE Joe Ostman were signed to futures contract Monday, Jan. 4.
Footballguys view: Deontay Burnett has been a training camp star for a couple of seasons. That's worth noting for Fantasy GMs but only in crazy deep dynasty formats. |

Eagles | 5 players activated off IR Sat Oct 31, 03:12 PM
Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert, WR Jalen Reagor, LB T.J. Edwards, CB Rudy Ford and OT Jason Peters on Saturday, Oct. 31, were activated off the Reserve/Injured list. In a corresponding move, TE Hakeem Butler was placed on waivers.
Footballguys view: Getting Goedert and Reagor back in action is big for this offense. We like Goedert as a TE1 upon his return in Week 8 and Reagor should perform like a WR4/flex option with upside. |

The Philadelphia Eagles have declared WR Alshon Jeffery, CB Avonte Maddox, WR DeSean Jackson, RB Jason Huntley, LB Casey Toohill, TE Hakeem Butler and QB Nate Sudfeld inactive for Week 5.

Eagles | Philly nabs Hakeem Butler from Carolina Tue Sep 29, 03:04 PM
Carolina Panthers TE Hakeem Butler was signed off the practice squad by the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
Footballguys view: Butler was a wide receiver in college at Iowa State and the Cardinals made him a fourth-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft. He failed to make their final roster and was signed to the Panthers practice squad. The Eagles are now transitioning Butler to a tight end, which is a move that could work out well given his size, length and ability to high-point passes. We still appreciate Butler in deep dynasty formats, but now for different reasons. |

Cardinals | Four players removed from roster Fri Sep 4, 04:12 PM
Arizona Cardinals WR Hakeem Butler, DT Miles Brown and OG Sam Jones were released Friday, Sept. 4. The team also waived OT Brett Toth (undisclosed) with an injury designation.
Footballguys view: Butler was a stud receiver at Iowa State and the Cardinals selected him in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL draft. He missed all of his rookie season on Injured Reserve with a broken finger. Butler was healthy now and has a 'ton of ability' according to Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury. Butler is now looking for a new team or a spot on the Cardinals practice squad. |

Cardinals | Hakeem Butler fully recovered Fri Jun 26, 09:32 PM
Arizona Cardinals WR Hakeem Butler (hand) said he is ready to resume practice.
Footballguys view: Butler is a player we love in dynasty formats. He's big (6'5" 227 pounds), fast and physical. During his college career at Iowa State, Butler was tough to match up against due to his physical skill set. Butler led the nation in yards gained on 20-plus-yard targets (721) in 2018. The season-ending hand injury kept him from contributing as a rookie in 2019. Butler is pushed further down the depth chart due to the trade for superstar WR DeAndre Hopkins, but he's still a player worth stashing and monitoring in dynasty leagues. |

Cardinals | Arizona still believes in Hakeem Butler Thu May 14, 11:51 PM
Arizona Cardinals WR Hakeem Butler missed his entire rookie season after suffering a finger injury in training camp, but the coaching staff still believes he has an 'intriguing skill set,' according to Kyle Odegard of the team's website.'(Butler has) tons of ability. He's healthy. He's been working hard this offseason. He knows what we expect of him, and what we think he can be. I'm really excited when we can finally get him back on the field,' head coach Kliff Kingsbury said.
Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs in dynasty formats should still believe in Butler as well. He's got a fine size/speed combination and could be a red-zone threat for the Cardinals when he fully develops. With the trade for DeAndre Hopkins, Butler is pushed further down the depth chart. We're excited about the WR room in Arizona, not only Butler but also young receivers like Andy Isabella and Keesean Johnson too. |

Cardinals | Two placed on injured reserve Sun Aug 25, 04:18 PM
Arizona Cardinals WR Hakeem Butler (hand) and CB Joshua Shaw (shoulder) were placed on the Reserve/Injured list Sunday, Aug. 25.
Footballguys view: Butler's first year is basically lost. He made some routine miscues and extraordinary plays in camp but never leveled off to a consistent enough level to threaten for first-team playing time. He's still worth carrying in dynasty leagues, but it has been a bad summer for his value. |

Cardinals | Hakeem Butler suffers serious hand injury Tue Aug 20, 02:27 PM
Arizona Cardinals WR Hakeem Butler (hand) was diagnosed with an avulsion fracture in his hand and is a candidate for the Reserve/Injured list, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Bad news for the big-bodied rookie here. Butler was working to carve out a spot on the depth chart with fellow rookies Andy Isabella and Keesean Johnson. That trio of rookie is of course behind Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk in the pecking order. Butler is now likely to be shut down for at least half of his rookie season. |

Cardinals | Hakeem Butler has work to do Sun Aug 4, 10:32 PM
Arizona Cardinals WR Hakeem Butler has had problems 'holding onto the ball' during training camp, according to Scott Bordow of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: Butler has alternated spectacular plays and drops on routine passes. He has to become more consistent to get playing time, but the hope is that the lapses will lessen as he becomes more experienced. |

Cardinals | Hakeem Butler could surprise as a rookie Thu Jul 11, 12:58 AM
Arizona Cardinals WR Hakeem Butler was listed as the 'potential breakout performer' among the team's receivers and tight ends by The Arizona Republic's Bob McManaman, who writes that Butler's size, speed and intangibles could make him the surprise player 'of the entire bunch.' McManaman also lists Butler's offseason work with retired WR Calvin Johnson as a reason he could make an impact in 2019.
Footballguys view: A Matt Waldman favorite, Butler has great measurables, elite skill in contested situations, and excellent power and balance as a runner after the catch. He knows how to use his frame to box out smaller defenders and Butler does a good job of getting two-feet down near the sideline or the back of the end zone. We love his stock in dynasty formats. |

Cardinals | No rookie role for Hakeem Butler? Thu Jun 27, 03:40 PM
Arizona Cardinals WRs Larry Fitzgerald, Christian Kirk and Andy Isabella were projected to be the team's top three wideouts by AZcardinals.com Darren Urban, who made no mention of Hakeem Butler.
Footballguys view: Butler will have to show he "gets" the air raid offense to get playing time. He offers the best combination of size and athleticism, but a feel for getting open is crucial in this scheme. It looks like Isabella is the better redraft option, with Kirk being the best target of the three starters at ADP. |

Cardinals | Arizona signs Andy Isabella, Hakeem Butler Fri May 10, 08:35 PM
Arizona Cardinals second-round draft choice WR Andy Isabella and fourth-round draft choice WR Hakeem Butler signed four-year contracts with the Cardinals Friday, May 10. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Isabella and Butler were drafted to be the prototype inside and outside receivers in the air raid attack. If the Cardinals and Kyler Murray's transitions are both smooth, either or both of the rookies could have fantasy relevance this year and both are exciting late first/early second round dynasty rookie picks. |

49ers | Hakeem Butler visits Wed Apr 17, 06:31 PM
Iowa State WR Hakeem Butler met with the San Francisco 49ers Tuesday, April 16, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Butler is one of the most heavily debated players in the 2019 NFL draft regardless of position. He should be a second-round pick but there's a chance some team takes a shot on him in the late first round. Butler is a big target, measuring in at 6'5" 227 pounds. He can push smaller defenders to the side and make plays on contested catches due to his size. Butler also has good run-after-the-catch ability and has good build up speed. We'll be grabbing him in all dynasty formats. |

NFL | Hakeem Butler does himself a favor Sat Mar 2, 08:44 PM
Iowa State WR Hakeem Butler measured 6-foot-3 3/8, 227 pounds, with 35 1/4-inch arms and 10 3/4-inch hands at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine. He ran an official 4.48-second 40-yard dash Saturday, March 2, while posting 18 reps on the 225-pound bench press, a 36-inch vertical jump, and a 10-foot-8 broad jump.
Footballguys view: Butler is one of our favorite prospects in the 2019 NFL draft. He's got the size and ability to win at the catch point to 'Moss' defenders with ease. This workout could propel him into the late first or early second round. |
