Pittsburgh Steelers DE Cam Thomas could start at defensive end until DE Stephon Tuitt is ready to take over the starting job. Thomas appears to be better suited to be a swing player at defensive end and defensive tackle.
| Footballguys view: Thomas is a seasoned veteran the Steelers added in free agency from the Chargers earlier this year. Tuitt was a nice value pick by the Steelers in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft. He is an athletic big man, measuring in at 6'5" 310 pounds. Tuitt is fast but needs to work on his quickness. He can take up space as a run-stuffer, and Tuitt is developing his ability to get interior push on the quarterback. |

Pittsburgh Steelers DL Cam Thomas is getting work at nose tackle and five-technique positions in offseason workouts. Thomas played almost exclusively as a 3-4 nose tackle with the San Diego Chargers, but the Steelers believe he is athletic and powerful enough to play the five technique (outside shoulder of the tackle) and the three technique (outside shoulder of the guard) in sub packages.
| Footballguys view: We like the idea of Thomas at nose tackle. This team is still looking for the next Casey Hampton up front. Thomas has good strength to hold his ground, and he can get some push to create interior pressure. |

'The nature of the game right now, the way the games are played, the type of personnel teams are using, it's hard to dress more than five defensive linemen in a 3-4 defense.'
