Ravens | Two released    Sat Jul 30, 01:51 AM

The Baltimore Ravens have waived RB Curtis Steele and DT Lamar Divens after they failed their physicals with the team.

Footballguys view: Steele was a nice prospect back at Memphis and there was hope that he could make the Ravens and figure in the depth chart at RB this season. He might still catch on with another team's practice squad.

Ravens | Seven signed to future contracts    Tue Jan 18, 12:07 AM

The Baltimore Ravens signed OL Brady Bond, QB Hunter Cantwell, CB Danny Gorrer, WR Justin Harper, LB Albert McClellan, OL Andre Ramsey and RB Curtis Steele to reserve/future contracts Monday, Jan. 17, reports Edward Lee, of The Baltimore Sun.

Footballguys view: Curtis Steele is an interesting RB for deep dynasty owners to keep an eye on. Steele is a very instinctive runner, has a low center of gravity, and good leg drive. If Willis McGahee refuses to take a pay cut and is gone from Baltimore it would open up an opportunity for guys like Steele and Jalen Parmele behind Ray Rice.

Ravens | Curtis Steele returns    Sun Sep 5, 01:32 PM

The Baltimore Ravens re-signed RB Curtis Steele to their practice squad, reports Aaron Wilson, of The NationalFootballPost.com.

Footballguys view: Curtis Steele is a very instinctive running back, and definitely worth a developmental spot on the Ravens practice squad. Our very own Cecil Lammey watched Steele up close during the week of practice for the Texas vs The Nation Game earlier this year in El Paso and came away impressed with Steele's natural running ability. He sees the field well, has enough burst to get to the outside and plays a little like a young Clinton Portis.

Ravens | Troy Smith, eight others released    Sat Sep 4, 04:57 PM

The Baltimore Ravens have released DB K.J. Gerard, WR Justin Harper, CB Chris Hawkins, S Brad Jones, OL Bryan Mattison, OL Joe Reitz, QB Troy Smith, RB Curtis Steele and WR Demetrius Williams.

Footballguys view: Troy Smith was the surprise cut from this list. The veteran quarterback should be able to find a new home fairly quickly because the lack of quality players at the position. Curtis Steele could wind up on the practice squad and has good upside.

Raiders | Showing interest in Steele    Fri Apr 9, 12:22 PM

Bo Marchionte, of NFLDraftBible.com, reports the Oakland Raiders are showing interest in Memphis RB Curtis Steele.

Footballguys view: With Justin Fargas no longer wearing the silver and black, Al Davis is looking for more depth in his RB corps. Steele is likely a late-round pick or priority free agent, but has the upside to contribute at the next level.

Titans | Steele visits    Fri Apr 9, 12:18 PM

Bo Marchionte, of NFLDraftBible.com, reports the Tennessee Titans recently met with Memphis RB Curtis Steele.

Footballguys view: Our very own Cecil Lammey saw Steele up close during the week of practice for the Texas vs The Nation game in El Paso earlier this year and came away impressed. Steele is a natural/instinctive running back that runs with a good pad level. He knows how to be patient, allowing his blocks to develop in front of him thus creating more running room. He's not the fastest guy on the field, but he understands angles of pursuit and can get to the edge of the defense. He would make a fine backup in Tennessee behind Chris Johnson and Javon Ringer.

NFL | Steele works out at Pro Day    Sun Mar 28, 01:31 PM

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Memphis RB Curtis Steele (hamstring) measured in at his Pro Day Friday, March 26, with a height of 5-foot-10 5/8, 194 pounds. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.60 seconds, but he pulled a hamstring and was unable to do any more of the running drills. He also measured a 32 ½-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot-4 broad jump and completed 16 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.

Footballguys view: Steele is considered a late-round prospect, but is a very instinctive runner. Our very own Cecil Lammey saw Steele up close during the week of practice at the Texas vs The Nation Game and came away impressed. Steele runs with a good pad level and low center of gravity which makes him difficult to bring down. He's a good receiver out of the backfield and should make a squad because of his versatility.
