Lions | Fullback position in transition Mon Jul 5, 07:59 PM
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said the team's fullback position is in "a little bit of a transition," reports Carlos Monarrez, of the Detroit Free Press. The team has three fullbacks on the roster in FBs Jerome Felton, Matt Clapp and Jake Nordin. Schwartz added, "Felton is getting some running back reps also. He's getting that slash work. The only real true fullback we have right now is the rookie, Clapp. Nordin is getting those snaps, but he's also getting some tight end snaps. ... So our guys, they're all fitting into a little different roles. They're not all cut out of the exact same cloth."
| Footballguys view: Jerome Felton could be used as a short-yardage and goalline runner in order to keep rookie Jahvid Best from getting dinged up. Felton is an instinctive runner who has a nose for the end zone. He can also be used effectively as a receiver out of the backfield. |

Carlos Monarrez, of the Detroit Free Press, reports Detroit Lions TE Jake Nordin is now listed as a fullback and is practicing with the running backs. Head coach Jim Schwartz has stopped short of saying Nordin was a full-time fullback. Schwartz said, "We're getting flexible with our tight ends playing some fullback and mixing them around."

| Footballguys view: Nick Moore, younger brother of Saints receiver Lance Moore, may find a spot on a practice squad with the Vikings or another team. He's not the player that his brother is, but he is willing to go over the middle of the field, and does a good job of high-pointing passes. Cutting Ian Johnson is a mistake. The mini-slasher has the heart of a lion, and was having a productive preseason. He is also a versatile back, that can be used effectively as a receiver out of the backfield. |
