Falcons | All QB options on the table for Atlanta    Sat Feb 17, 11:30 AM

The Atlanta Falcons are in the process of deciding whether to bring back QBs Taylor Heinicke and Desmond Ridder next season or bring in a new quarterback via draft, free agency or trade. Meanwhile, last season's third-string quarterback, Logan Woodside, is a restricted free agent. Head coach Raheem Morris and offensive coordinator Zac Robinson have said that all options are on the table in the search for a starter and that they are open to considering both pocket passers and more mobile players.

Falcons | Atlanta's injury report for Week 18    Fri Jan 5, 01:39 PM

Atlanta Falcons DB DeMarcco Hellams (concussion) and C Drew Dalman (ankle) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 18 against the New Orleans Saints. LB Troy Andersen (pectoral) was limited in practice all week and has also been ruled out. QB Taylor Heinicke (ankle) and DE Zach Harrison (knee) were limited in practice all week and are listed as questionable. CB Mike Hughes (concussion) was upgraded to full practice on Friday, Jan. 5, but is also listed as questionable. RB Cordarrelle Patterson (rest) and DE Calais Campbell (rest) practiced in full on Friday and are expected to be available.

Footballguys view: It's not clear if Heinicke or Desmond Ridder will start with the Falcons clinging to their hopes of backing into a division title with a win and Bucs loss at Carolina, but we would expect a run-heavy gameplan no matter who is taking snaps from center.

Atlanta Falcons QB Taylor Heinicke (ankle) will be a limited participant during practice Wednesday, Jan. 3, according to head coach Arthur Smith.

Falcons | Taylor Heinicke dealing with injury    Tue Jan 2, 07:04 AM

Atlanta Falcons QB Taylor Heinicke (ankle) is dealing with an ankle injury, and his availability for Week 18 will not be known until later in the week, according to head coach Arthur Smith.

Footballguys view: The Falcons have had Heinicke in and out of the lineup this year. Now, he might have to miss the season finale due to this ankle injury. QB Desmond Ridder will start if Heinicke is unavailable to play. At this time, the Falcons have just a 10 percent chance of making the postseason. They'll need to win in Week 18 and get a lot of help if they're going to make the playoffs.

Atlanta Falcons QB Taylor Heinicke (ankle) was a full participant at practice Friday, Dec. 29, and has no injury designation for the Week 17 game against the Chicago Bears.

Footballguys view: Heinicke is ready to go, but Fantasy GMs might have better options out there. He completed 23-of-33 passes for 229 yards and a touchdown in the Falcons' 29-10, Week 16 win over the Colts. We've got him as a low-end QB2 in Week 17.

Falcons | Taylor Heinicke has decent outing    Sun Dec 24, 04:26 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Taylor Heinicke went 23-for-33 for 229 yards and one touchdown against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 16. He also rushed for 10 yards on two carries during the game.

Footballguys view: Heinicke was focused on the tight ends and Bijan Robinson in a very safe passing game plan. The Falcons are still alive for the playoffs and will likely lean on the run next week at Chicago, so he's only a low-end QB2/Superflex.

Falcons | Taylor Heinicke to start rest of season    Wed Dec 20, 01:07 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Taylor Heinicke will be the starter for the remainder of the season, head coach Arthur Smith said on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Footballguys view: The Falcons have seen enough from Desmond Ridder, and they certainly will be upgrading the position this offseason. Heinicke plays "YOLO" ball, so that's good news for downfield targets like WR Drake London.

Falcons | Taylor Heinicke to start    Tue Dec 19, 08:09 AM

Atlanta Falcons QB Taylor Heinicke will start over QB Desmond Ridder in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Footballguys view: The Falcons have benched Desmond Ridder, so they're back to Heinicke. He started earlier this year, and the team went back to Ridder, so we'll have to see if Heinicke can do better this time. He does play "YOLO" ball, so downfield passing will be part of what Heinicke does.

Falcons | Desmond Ridder done as starter?    Mon Dec 18, 01:24 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Desmond Ridder may have lost his starting role as head coach Arthur Smith said the team is still working through that decision Monday, Dec. 18. Smith said it will be between Ridder and Taylor Heinicke in Week 16.

Footballguys view: The choice between Ridder and Heinicke is like the choice between airline food and hospital food. Both will get the job done, but it doesn't taste great. Fantasy GMs are avoiding the quarterback situation as a whole in Atlanta, but the chosen starter will impact the various skill position players around them - and that's why we need to know who is starting ASAP.

Falcons | Taylor Heinicke suffers injury in Week 10    Sun Nov 12, 06:35 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Taylor Heinicke (undisclosed) suffered an undisclosed injury in the fourth quarter of the Week 10 game against the Arizona Cardinals, and he was replaced by former starter QB Desmond Ridder.

Footballguys view: It's a hamstring injury for Heinicke, but at least Atlanta is going into their bye. Desmond Ridder moved the offense and had a go-ahead rushing score, but the defense let the Falcons down as Kyler Murray drove Arizona for a game-winning field goal. No matter who starts for the Falcons in Week 12, you probably don't want to carry a Falcons quarterback through the bye.

Falcons | Taylor Heinicke to start Week 10    Mon Nov 6, 01:14 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Taylor Heinicke will start against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 10, according to sources Monday, Nov. 6.

Footballguys view: The Falcons didn't win in Week 9, but Heinicke did a good job of running the offense in his first start of the 2023 season. Heinicke completed 21-of-38 attempts for 268 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Falcons' 31-28 Week 9 loss against the Vikings. Fantasy GMs in 2QB/Superflex leagues can consider the veteran passer as an option in Week 10.

Falcons | Taylor Heinicke throws for 268 yards, TD    Sun Nov 5, 06:04 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Taylor Heinicke completed 21-of-38 passes for 268 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings, and he rushed three times for 20 yards.

Footballguys view: The offense didn't greatly improve with Heinicke at quarterback, although he didn't have #1 receiver Drake London. This performance didn't shut the door on Desmond Ridder returning eventually, and the Falcons offense continues to underachieve. Heinicke is only a low-end QB2/Superflex at Arizona next week, assuming he remains the starter.

Falcons | Taylor Heinicke to start    Wed Nov 1, 11:01 AM

Atlanta Falcons QB Taylor Heinicke was named the starting quarterback Wednesday, Nov. 1.

Footballguys view: Desmond Ridder goes to the bench now that Heinicke is taking over. Heinicke has a never-say-die attitude that can help him make plays (and get him in trouble). The change at quarterback could help spark the offense, so Fantasy GMs should note who Heinicke prefers tossing the ball to.

Falcons | Taylor Heinicke tosses TD in relief    Sun Oct 29, 06:05 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Taylor Heinicke completed 12-of-21 passes for 175 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Week 8 against the Tennessee Titans, coming on for the benched QB Desmond Ridder. Heinicke also ran twice for 14 yards.

Footballguys view: Heinicke got more going in the downfield passing game than Desmond Ridder has, but he wasn't more accurate and he couldn't lead the team to a comeback victory. It's not clear who will start in Week 9 against the Vikings, but with Drake London possibly out due to a groin injury that made him leave today's game, whoever starts won't be more than a low ceiling QB2/Superflex against Minnesota next week.

Falcons | Desmond Ridder benched    Sun Oct 29, 03:05 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Desmond Ridder has been benched during the Week 8 game and has been replaced by QB Taylor Heinicke.

Footballguys view: Ridder was evaluated for a concussion and might have been kept out partially as an injury concern. Heinicke wasn't more accurate than Ridder, but he was able to make more happen as a downfield passer, even with #1 receiver Drake London leaving with a groin injury. We'll be watching to see if Heinicke will get the start against Minnesota, and whether London will be able to play in Week 9.

Commanders | Carson Wentz taking over    Wed Dec 28, 08:14 AM

Washington Commanders QB Carson Wentz was named the starter for Week 17 with QB Taylor Heinicke going to the bench.

Footballguys view: The Commanders want to make the postseason, and they're hanging on right now so that's why they go back to Wentz. Heinicke flashed (as he has before) and then his game fell apart (as it has before), so the Commanders will run the heck out of the ball with Wentz under center.

Commanders | Washington undecided about Week 17 starting QB    Tue Dec 27, 01:38 PM

Washington Commanders QBs Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke both displayed 'positives' in Week 16 against the San Francisco 49ers, leaving the team in a position where it has yet to decide which one will start in Week 17 versus the Cleveland Browns.

Footballguys view: This was the buzz around the building entering the week. Now, Fantasy GMs are going to wait and see because things look different when it's either Taylor Heinicke or Carson Wentz out there under center. Rivera told reporters that he expects to announce the starter Wednesday, Dec. 28.

Commanders | Taylor Heinicke benched    Sat Dec 24, 06:47 PM

Footballguys view: The Commanders are very much in the playoff hunt, so we're on the edge of our seats waiting to see who starts next week against Cleveland. Whoever it is will be a risky play with the team not certain who is the best option at quarterback.

Washington Commanders QB Taylor Heinicke went 27-for-41 for 275 yards and two touchdowns against the New York Giants in Week 13.

Footballguys view: Heinicke had his best game as a passer this year even though it didn't result in a win. He was able to do more than just target Terry McLaurin and should have QB2 value in 2QB/Superflex leagues after the bye when he faces the Giants again.
